Still couldn’t graduate college? Don’t worry I know how you feel I know a dude that got held back in junior high so I know how embarrassing it is to be the oldest mofo there at school. :bgrin:
Good session tonight. Thanks to all the top SoCal players that came out and played us upcomers.
And Valle thx for the footsies advice. Ill have to start being less predictable with my timing.
Tonight inspired me to work on some videos for my fellow Psycho Scientists.
Also, people that live in Torrance or surrounding area–Get at me.
You already know.
Shane, Rick, Sanchez, whoever else. Let’s go
late for work. post to follow later.
thanks to those who came, and gootecks and valle for mentoring people!
damn i missed out,
can i grab a spot for next week’s session?
Hey sanchez, i don’t think torrance is far from my house maybe on the weekends or something when we’re both free you can show me some match ups.
Much respect to Valle, UltraDavid, gootecks, and everyone else there who offered advice to help us all out, for free no less. While I might not have gleaned as much out of it as others did, the experience was a memorable one. I think i’ll be sitting out on further lessons though, don’t want to be taking up a spot for someone who really, really wants it.
Good times, lol’d at work.
I’d like to reserve a spot for next week. I can bring my A-game and aforementioned game in quote.
Hey shgl, I had to work last night can I get a spot for next Wednesday?
Okay, so anyway. Thank You all for coming to our first session. no hard feelings if you decide to not attend anymore because of the overhaul we had, but i hope those who came at least was worth their while to hear something from or at least see with your eyes a legend of street fighter with a goal to level up our entire local community.
Big ups to Blazgreen team. Let’s play again next week.
Yea I think it’s important to note that you get better quicker by playing a set, then talking about what you did wrong for 10 minutes, rather than playing countless mindless casuals against players you know you can beat.
wutsup shhgl, i might wanna try this thing out, u got a spot for next weds? ill wanna know whats wrong with my gameplan if i head down there.
i heard blazgreen is the craziest game once you start playing.
i’ve never played
and i’ve heard it’s illegal in some arcades because it’s so crazy!
GG’S to everyone I played.
thx to shgl and valle for setting it up.
The lecture and session yesterday was excellent. It wasn’t just mindless casuals… everyone had a goal in mind and serious focus yesterday. I hope this sort of this becomes the new standard for these nights.
I’d like to attend next week as well.
this fa fray?
Harsh Reality: SF4 Class Recap
First of all, thanks to everyone that followed the lesson plans and sorry to those that I couldn’t get to. This was my first lecture and I couldn’t reach out everyone on a personal level with the time we had.
Many of you heard each others stories from the lesson plan-
A revelation from SoCali’s beginner to expert SF4 community.
- Who’s your main and why?
- Tell me about your tournament career.
- What are your good/bad match ups
- How much SF4 do you play in a week?
- How do you prepare for tournaments?
I put you guys in an arcade environment and instructed you to play the heavy hitters right off the bat…SHGLBMX,Gootecks,UltraDavid, etc.
Most of you got wrecked, and some did ok…
You need to know where you stand in order to come back, try again and eventually triumph.
Back during SHGL arcade days, our scrubs were giving out of town players a lot of trouble. Why do you think that was?
I was on one machine, Watts on another, Duc on Marvel, MrWiz on Tekken, etc.
There was no easy machine to play on in that arcade.
In order to beat top players -
You have to get in their head and out play them - aka Street Fighter
How can you do this?
Beginners/Casual players: Those with no tournament experience and/or basic execution flaws.
Your assignment is to find a sparring partner with about the same skill level and attend as much casual practice/sessions as possible together! If you are beating down your sparring partner, you need to help him catch up and/or find another partner.
If you don’t do this, you will most likely play XX hours a week of SF4 with the least amount of improvement.
Intermediate players: Those with tournament experience and character development skills.
Your assignment is to write down strategies vs. every character in the game(this includes mirror matches ryu vs ryu etc) and execute them during casual play. This is your daily grind and what you have to perfect before the next tournament. For example:
Ryu vs Rog
Scenario:
Make Rog lose his charge by throwing FBs beyond sweep distance.
Opponent Counter:
He will either focus my FBs, jump, EX rush,Heabutt, Ultra (if he has meter) or Turn Around Punch(TAP) to avoid future fb set ups.
Scenario Mixups:
Fake a FB (use a fast recovery normal like LP or LK) to bait the Opponent Counters mentioned above and punish accordingly-
Crouching MK to beat normal rushes and TAP(hit confirm cr.mk into DP or back throw vs EX rushes.
DP jump ins inside sweep distance.
Level 2 focus vs. straight and low rushes (SEX DAMAGE COMBO HERE)
ETC ETC-
Experts Players: Pool qualifiers, Seeded players, and tournament winners.
How to stay consistent:
Study top player strengths and weaknesses.
For example:
Vs Ed Ma (Akuma)
Strength: defense, mix ups, and execution.
Weakness: footsies
Vs Strengths
I can’t be impatient or he will teleport away or punish my reckless attacks.
I have to minimize being knocked down or he will do the myriad of Akuma mix ups (demon flip, cross up tatsu, empty jumps)
He will rarely miss a combo opportunity and will lock me down with several block strings if he’s on the offensive.
Vs Weakness
Slowly push him to the corner with the least amount of jump ins.
Use FBS to match his FBS or nuetral jump to reset the zone.
Use Crouching MK to prevent him from taking my space but also avoiding/punishing his Standing HK.
ETC ETC
PM me your results,questions,feedback!!
PRACTICE UP KIDS!!! :china:
ill show up if i don’t have to bring notebooks and i am not forced to listen to any sort of lecture. I understand that you have good intentions but frankly i don’t believe listening to lecture would be fun or make me better (compared to actual play vs good players)
if not maybe ill just open my place up on tuesdays.
Plz oh plz bring back Dentrons on Tuesdays.
That would be so sick.
