Nice fights. I’m wondering what happened in the first fight with the guile at 5:10. I always see tokido doing that and it always hits but when I tried doing it in training mode, my opponent just walks out of it. Am I doing something wrong? Or the guile just wasn’t blocking?
Thanks, guys.
Umm, that setup (aka the Tokido special :P) is character specific. It works on like characters with big hitboxes. I haven’t really been testing it too much, but I know it works on Sagat and Guile and does NOT work on Ryu, Ken, and Balrog.
The setup is (in the corner) demon flip throw, immmediate dash, and then immediate demon flip to dive kick. I’m pretty sure the strength of the dive kick does not matter but I use the :hk: version. What’s important is that you do the dash and demon flip without any gaps after your demon flip throw. Everything must be as soon as possible.
Just record Akuma doing this to Guile and then see what Guile can do. It can actually make a psuedo-unblockable against Sagat. Maybe it does against Guile also; I forgot my results on testing it out. Try it out yourself.
Also, this setup can also work if you have any knockdown in the corner (forward throw, sweep, EX fireball, and red fireball). But you have to manually time the demon flip and that’s why it’s harder. For example, you can do forward throw, dash forward, wait a tiny bit, and then demon flip dive kick. That wait that you have to do is very specific and human error will definitely cause you to mess up. The demon flip throw setup is so easy because you just do things asap.
after a f.throw you can dash, whiff a c.lp and then go for hk df kick.
i’m starting to get that abit more now.
but still vaguely understand how it work and who does it actually work on.
i mean there’s around 34 character in the game?
and i only know that trick works feasibly on sagat, rufus, guile
anyone can compile who it works and who it doesn’t work against?
usually on “big” characters…should work on abel, gief, hawk other than the ones you listed.
i hate to say this…
your post of “should work on this” …doesn’t really help out.
mainly because i did the setup on hawk and it whiffs not sure if its my execution or some character just have weird hitbox. and also have to consider whether the character have the tools to escape this akuma gimmicky trick.
i just want things to be clear. people who’ve been comfortable doing the trick on high success rate should be able to tell who it work on and who doesn’t.
Set it as 1P Sagat and 2P Akuma. Record and do the setup in the corner. Playback and look at the results for walking forward and backwards, srk’s, and whatever.
Once you recorded it correctly, just go to the character select and pick a different character and just playback. Look at the results and repeat for other characters.
I would have made a list, but I have school and such. Try to contribute yourself if you can.
i would love to contribute too.
but so far when i tried to record i screw up the result.
few situation kept popping out against even sagat and guile.
eg. they can block both ways. or they can block normally and walk out of the crossup.
since my execution timing is not up to par for that gimmick yet. i wouldn’t want to contribute worrying that i might give wrong info.
however, i did give it a shot and tried out. result is not to my liking.
against sagat
block normal - sagat blocked the divekick, akuma ended up landing behind
block neutral - whiff
block forward - get hit
reversal - whiff
2nd scenario sagat.
block normal - blocked
block neutral - hit
block forward - blocked
reversal - whiff.
against guile
block normal - blocked divekick akuma land in front
block forward - hit
reversal whiff
against hawk
block normal - whiff
block forward - whiff
2nd record hawk
whiff all scenario
this is from a record that works on guile and sagat. input grab dash clp demonflip heavy. see how the result is ambiguous?
because tokido managed to land it on thawk and i whiffed on thawk. thats why i am not confident in compiling this. there
Then you are doing it too slow. There must be no gaps, and it’s not that hard to get it.
After the demon flip throw, just mash forward until he dashes. Near the end of the dash, do the demon flip motion and then press the :hk: a few times rapidly just as the dash ends. Then, just like piano all three kicks when you reach near the top of the peak to get the earliest possible dive kick.
Gogogo, I believe that you can do it.
i don’t really know if i am doing it too slow or what. i believe better players like you should do it. since your confident enough to do it on guile in tourney.
i’ve been told to ignore this gimmick because really, this setup is way harder to confirm compared to safejump. its almost like trying to safejump against 4frame. therefore most of people told me to ignore this.
Like I said, it can make a psuedo-unblockable on Sagat (I think Guile too). The results you should be finding for Sagat is:
-if he holds away from the corner, he will get hit.
-if he holds towards the corner, it will whiff.
-if he srk’s, both of you will whiff, and you can punish.
What you wanna do is also an option select cr. lk when you dive kick. This is because you will cover his option of holding towards the corner since you will hit him with a low, and you will not reset him out of his srk so you can get a full punishing combo.
Sagat can escape by just holding down and away from the corner. Dive kick will whiff and he will block the cr. lk.
So, keep trying til you get him to get those 3 results above^. Once you get that, then just playback on other characters.
I’ll try to get on this setup this weekend if anything.
Edit: also, test out backdashing and jumping. I forgot to last time.
The setup is Demon Flip Throw against the corner, dash, LK Demon Flip to Dive Kick as fast as possible. It works for most of the cast, including T.Hawk.
Blocking towards the corner blocks it and you land behind, blocking away gets them hit (no-one neutral guards in a match). It’s confusing to defend against because it’s not a cross-up even though it visually lands on the cross-up side. The mix-up is to flip over and whiff palm and then hit confirm to catch them for blocking towards the corner. The majority of the reversals in the game are useless against it. Goukens parry and CQC Ultras can get the Dive Kick, but are punished when you palm.
If they crouch guard it; you land in front, rather than the cross-up side. Palm may still mix them up though, I haven’t used it in a match.
I ran the same timing through the whole cast just now.
It doesn’t work correctly on:
Fei Long
Guile
Rufus
Hakan
(simply because you don’t land on their cross-up side when they stand guard, may still be viable)
Whiffs on:
Balrog
Chun Li
Honda
Blanka
Sagat (worked on him in vanilla)
Adon
Guy (doesn’t get hit if he blocks away from the corner)
It’s confusing for Vega to deal with because it lands on his front side, but has to be blocked as a cross-up! it only comes down on the cross-up side when he blocks the away from the corner.
Seth basicly takes damage for free against the Dive Kick unless he either crouch blocks towards the corner, or kick teleports to the other side of the screen. Characters with teleports who are affected by it normally can get out too; you should have your own fakes in place to catch them doing that.
Ranked match between me and a Rufus. Miss some links. Just putting it up here for humor.

man tokido with those insane reaction demons.
1st match @ 0:56 - st. HK xx U1… Sick!! Tokido’s offense is really relentless, guy’s not afraid of anything. On a similar note, I just got invited to play a mirror match against JR online. Gonna get pulverized, but it’ll be worth every minute of it!! :lovin:
I guess I’ll post some gameplay of me up for once. This was back in August or early September at our nationals. I managed to beat Cr8zyk1ll3r in the top 16 after first attempting to counter pick his viper with cammy, but he stuck with Ryu the whole tournament. Probably my biggest rival who I had never beaten before in a serious game.
So we had a money match afterwards $50 each with $40 on sidebets. I was playing pretty shit and some stuff such as taunts were for the crowd lol, but tell me what you guys think.

good matches man. you really need to work on AA though.
Nice and solid - you played against Ryu well. I agree with West that you let a few AA opportunities go, but at least you blocked instead so it didn’t exactly cost you damage. I noticed in round one of the first match that you got a bit liberal with meter use where a BnB would have done the job, but fuck it, you netted wins so who cares.
Crazy’s no pushover either so you should be pretty stoked with this result
I like the c.mp reset from lk tatsu into a cross-over tatsu to keep things rolling - very tidy. I might have to use this a little more often myself
Yeah really good stuff, just cringed at how many times he got to jump in for free. Although I find it hard to think about stuff like that in tournament, usually just mindless “run program” play haha.
