spoilers most rpgs don’t have good stories
Yeah, that’s the problem with games with large casts, a lot of them will become pointless in the face of a char that does the same things but better(i.e. Cable/Cyc being the ultimate shotos with both sides of the rushdown(cyc) and space control(cable) types). There’s only so much you can do with clones before either they’re no longer clones or the others just plain suck.
And I’m done derailing this. lol
also yesterday a guy on irc told me that 3rd strike was his first fighting game then he told me that parrying adds depth to the game then he told me than mvc2 is unbalanced
It’s a poor Westerner’s Zen Paradox.
Parry adds a pseudo balance…
without parry…
Urien’s unblockable would be even gayer
You can’t do SHIT against Yun, Chun, and Akuma
Jumping would be a completely different aspect to the game.
Overall, it would be SF2 with an in-depth combo system…
I don’t think that it adds depth at all… MvC2 is unbalanced, by a much greater degree than SF3 will ever be considered… The day I see a Zangief (MvC2) get as high as a Hugo (3S) in tournament rankings is the day that I just stop playing video games…
So yeah, I will agree with the MvC2 statement, but I can’t agree with the 3S parry comment. For me, parry is the primary reason I can’t stand the game… Genai Jin, the way that some of the juggles work, and unblockable shit with Urien are what keep me from appreciating this game more than just, “wow, capcom put a fuckload of effort into the animations, and made a very noble attempt to create a completely different SF. I give them a lot of props too for taking a huge risk”
The risk, as stated earlier, no systems in the mid 90’s could handle 3S… they waited until Dreamcast for SF3 at home… and that system was done like a hotcake. The first time I ever played SF3 was on DC… and I didn’t know it was out… I rented Alpha 3 for DC and they gave me that instead… and I’m like, wtf? coming from a SF fan, that could say a lot about how well they marketed the game for home play.
but you have to think about what “unbalanced” means
when someone says “unbalanced” they usually mean “this game is not fair it makes me so angry :(”
edit typo yeah
lucky guess then? i’ve been told that Vampire Savior is too broken because his felicia couldn’t beat my jedah… meh.
3rd Strike wasn’t a mistake, the only mistake Capcom made with Third Strike was pushing it toward the arcades. The main mistake Capcom made with the Street Fighter series was milking the hell out of it until the mainstream crowd grew tired. Then again it was the first game of its kind to really acheive such a popular status (basically what I’m trying say is that it was the first competitive game to truly explore things like revisions, updates, and sequels with the mainstream market). So it isn’t a mystery to as of why they’d make such a mistake.
I truly can’t stand this immature “fighting game wars” bullshit. It’s funny I really wonder how many people have actually put in significant time in to these games to the point where they can actually judge the games they bash. I mean yeah I really don’t see what makes Garou, Last Blade, Monster, Super Smash Bros, or SFA so great and I think I will never understand just why people still play Super Turbo, but I just say those games aren’t for me and leave them be. I don’t say that they “suck” and constantly bash them every given chance to try and change peoples minds. I mean yeah I consider Guilty Gear and Marvel vs Capcom 2 to be head over shoulders over every other fighting game I’ve played, but I can see there faults (Guilty Gear having some pointless needless features FROM MY EXPERIENCE and Marvel’s ridiculous balance) and I can see why some people wouldn’t enjoy them or apperciate them as much as I do. I’m just human being with opinions, will, and beliefs, who am I to try and change others if they aren’t doing any particular emotional or physical damage to others?
This has me confused. I mean in the begining it seems that you support parry for 3S then you say you can’t stand it. Is this a typo or possibly I’m not readin this post correctly.
You gotta teach me how to play Jedah sometime.
Not all games with large casts do this. Just the poorly designed ones. BTW what defines a large cast- I’m saying 20+ chars does for this.
GG, Sam Sho Special, and KOF98UM don’t have a problem with this.
Its not a problem either. No matter how large the cast of a game, if enough of the cast is viable competitively (~10 characters) its perfectly fine. 10 reasonably different characters is good variety, and even if there are a 100 other shit characters its still a good game.
Was 3rd Strike a mistake? Did Capcom go too far ahead of themselves?
The definitive answer:
Yes.
They were so far ahead of themselves that SFIV happens before it.
Damn.
This thread=mods dabbling in appeasement?
Or is it more along the lines of a “bag of holding” for stupidity?
No.
Not really.
100 shit characters?
That’s bad game design.
I disagree, because someone becomes a big fan of a sucky ass character (usually me), and then they get disappointed they can’t compete with said character.
All chars in a game should be viable at tournament level if tourney legal. This is why I hate char designs that are intentionally weak.
separate the sprite art from the character’s mechanics then
works for me bro
It’s because I know how to separate fact and opinion that you can’t understand it.
- Pseudo balance isn’t exactly a complement.
- I can’t stand the game based on personal preferences, but that’s not to say there aren’t good aspects to it.
- Just because something is in-depth or complex, doesn’t mean I have to like it. I can still appreciate it though.
Not for me. I’m not afraid to reject a fighter if it doesn’t meet my standards. With online play, I can find games I enjoy instead.
SC4 was one game that I definitely rejected due to the char I liked being ass, and char balance making it where ass chars weren’t viable competitively.
Well that was rather uncalled for. I just misread your post. But yeah I understand what you mean.
lulz, you should know the way that I post by now.
Once again, like the last post. READ WHAT I WROTE. I made a comment about my own statement, not one attacking you. It’s not my fault that you’re insecure enough to take it as an insult. YES, this one was insulting you.
EDIT: One more thing…
Mixah :lovin: Dencore
Nohomo.
yeah but sc is generally not viable for fun so i don’t really understand what you’re saying
SC stands higher in my book than 3S… lol
Voldo and Cervantes FOR FUCKING LIFE!
