I hate this annoying blue flash, like the drawing.

Tell ya what, if you can come up with another of her that I’ll like more, I’ll replace it. Look #2 as per Doraemon’s description only. Invitation extends to anybody, no prize this time.

To me, CvS1 plays more like SF with SNK characters. It was slow, but the six grooves make CvS2 a turtle fest. SF was about controlling space by using your character’s moves against someone else’s. The characters, by themselves, are what invited strategy to the game. There were no universal options to interfere with that, and that’s why ST is still fun to play, imbalances and all. Rolling in CvS1 was bad enough, but they chose to add everything that was wrong with SFZ3, SF3, KOF and SS in CvS2, thinking it would build depth. Instead, it’s like a watered down version of rock-paper-scissors where none of the options balance each other out. More is less.

My sister-in-law keeps bringing it up every time she sees me playing SF, so I gotta ask. What started this whole fan pairing between Ryu and Chun-Li? I just don’t get the rationale behind it. I understand some people want to see who they like getting together, but do they actually expect Capcom to make it happen? This has been popularized so far beyond death that it was written into comics, particularly that shitty Malibu one.

Not only that, but Chun’s come a long way from being the lone female, and I don’t see anyone pairing the others.

The fans started it AFAIK. Maybe they liked pairing them together because they’re both Oriental orphans? Or just because they were and still are the two primary SF media icons: main character & first lady? I dunno.

Rufus’ backstory is up, and I’ll bring it over here later today. Kinda surprised they didn’t put up El Fuerte’s first though. Anyway.

With me it just started because back in the day, whenever you saw Ryu artwork, Chun-Li was there. Maybe Ken was also present but he was spoken for. And when you are in a situation where you are either getting no real storyline information or stuff that’s hella inaccurate that you can’t even trust, at least in my case the mind is going to wander after seeing artwork (which Capcom USA can’t mess up) of 2 characters being seen together.

Then there was manga that played around with the posibility, both Masaomi Kanzaki and Masahiko Nakahira (less so) have toyed around with the notion.

It doesn’t help much that for crossovers it’s still the same, if Ryu’s in the game than so is Chun-Li, the new PC SF Online Mouse Generation game being the best example. Of course it is just because of their popularity and so forth, but it might help things along if Capcom started seperating them some what. Well arguably they probably don’t care what doujin fans think or whatever.

But it’s been so freaking long since we got a new SF game and the one we have takes place before 3, the pairing is not something I care about as much as I used to. Both will probably remain single forever for it to even kind of matter.

In Japan, there’s literally tons of pairing in anime and manga of characters that fans can see together but the characters themselves never seem to. Capcom hasn’t played them that way really (Masahiko Nakahira did the best of portraying their relationship that way, Masaomi Kanzaki was beyond obvious) but if you are into that kind of stuff you see it all the time. Ranma 1/2 is arguably one of the best examples of all of that, but it’s everywhere, very typical of shonen / shojo manga.

The two are straight up married in the old SF Hong Kong comics, that’s one of the things that probably spread the notion further. I myself wasn’t exposed to them until really late, and when I was well, there’s lots of obvious stuff in there just by artwork alone that makes you want to throw whatever story is in there out the window. But maybe it wasn’t the same for a lot of people.

Kataklysmic:

I strongly disagree, re: CvS1. Yes, CvS2 has far more options, many of which weren’t present in SF games (but on the other hand, many were), but its core Street Fighter-ness was better represented than CvS1’s. Cause frankly, SF was never was boring as CvS1, not to mention universal rolling in CvS1 pretty much destroyed a lot of SF’s typical zoning game, and it was far worse in CvS1 than in CvS2 because there was so little else you could do. CvS2 has far more complete characters to go along with the improved options.

And actually, CvS2 actually made improvements on what SFA3 and SF3 did; less so with KoF and SS/MOTW, but they’re at least more interesting than CvS1’s bare options. The grooves are actually fairly balanced - only S-Groove is a wash. It’s more what the characters can do in the grooves that matters than the grooves themselves. And it’s the characters, not the grooves, that makes things get turtle-friendly (which isn’t even that true at very high levels).

er: Ryu-Chun

Ryu-CHun is just the natural effect of pairing “main hero + main female”. Nothing more.

And then came Ojou-san, she had always dreamed of Ryu. Will she be able to stop his journey? Just when you thought they’d live happily togetherBAM! The SFV villain kills her and awakens SNH in Ryu like never before.

Yes indeed. Since her father’s in the game now, why can’t she?

Anyway, Rufus’ account from CJ’s SF4 console pages. Gotta love it, popcorn in one hand, Candy in the other.

Rufus from SF4

Looking for the Blonde

That day, at a back lane with no sign of life, a misfortuned man is alone again, tumbled to the ground by means of a blow from the back. The blow included a rebound from the disconnected earphone, which leaked out an intense rock rhythm. The man, fallen prostrate on the ground didn’t move.

“Alright! I defeated Ken Masters!” A rapid-talking voice would feel to cry out with an air of importance and, for the voice’s master that big frame quickly grumbling, it took a pose of its index finger pointing toward the sky.
Immediately following that, "Kyaa, oh Rufus to defeat someone before the start of the tournament, so cool!"
The high pitched voice this time running through the back lane, resounded as far as the main street. A pompous body spins like a top, the big framed man rushes over to the girl who called that man Rufus, as yet, having struck a daunting pose with his pointing-to-heaven pose, the young girl’s shrill voice seemed befuddled.
"Hahhahha, don’t praise me so much, Candy. It feels awkward!"
With the girl hanging clinging onto his big arm, Rufus of course with his air of importance voice heartily laughed. Also rather than sturdy, the word plump would suit both her sweetheart’s flesh and joyful voice while, Candy landed onto the ground. At their feet, the defeated misfortuned man from before is fallen prostrate.
"Hey hey, this guy, did he die?"
Candy, crouching over the victim pinching his hair, saw certain defeat.
“Uuh…” A muffled voice, passed from his lips having gone face down.
“Ah, he survived!” Candy looks up at Rufus and, wrapped with the rider suit like a whip around his legs, the misfortuned man’s back grindingly treaded on. Rufus’, audacious even with some squealings voice, would fall onto the misfortuned man’s back.
“This unkempt blond hair! No mistake it’s Ken Masters! You made it toward the end of your rope to walk in a place like this didn’t you!”
"You, you’re wro… I’m…this Ken you say, not, my name…"
The misfortuned man merely lifting his face, said in a chipped voice.
“You don’t know when to give up! What a rascal Ken Masters, how shameful!” Rufus, furthermore raises his fist overhead and, having sensed the hint, the misfortuned man looks up at Rufus with frantic features, resorted to a panicked voice.
“I’m…just a bandman… I…just appear to be…the son of the distinguished Masters family.” Rufus, inclined his head to the side in doubt.
"Indeed…from what I’ve seen it said, the Masters family, is the story of a famous rich man. But, no matter how I see it you’re more gloomy than me. No, naturally I myself’s fashion sense, not just in America but popularly circulates around the world is therefore obvious. But, even so your jeans, are worn out aren’t they. If your feel like wearing nicer clothes, you ought to have sparkling shoes right! No wait!, what if that’s the craze of celebs…“
Gushing out a swirl of words he seemed to gulp down, while starting to the staggering misfortuned man, interrupted that swirl.
“My name is Thomas, it’s not Ken!.. In the first place, the Masters Foundation headquarters building is separated from here no less than 100 km. Something like the back lanes of a street like this, in which that manager would likely have no reason to be.”
“No way, 100 km! That’s too far away!” Candy opened her eyes wide as she shouted.
Rufus overcome by surprise was unable to move for a short while, raised his eyes to the sky. With the building interval, clouds would calmly stream by. For Rufus, finally noticed that his own defeated man was just an average person and, in the rest of his anger, with all his strength he kicked up a nearby garbage can.”
"Damn, blasted Ken Masters! Again you produced a double didn’t you! If we meet at the tournament, you’ll remember thiis!"
Rufus’ angry voice roared through the back lane, yet also didn’t…get through to his still unseen rival certainly a far-off beyond 100 km away.

Well I can’t say I disagree, but CvS2 still isn’t that fun to play, even for top players. A game is flawed by design if it’s best played at the highest levels only. For what it’s worth though, that’s more than what I can say for CvS1. And it’s not as dumb as 3S where the higher you go, the worse it gets. I just don’t think the improvements that Capcom made are good enough. I’d rather they just did away with grooves completely and only retained supers. It pisses me off that so many people are quick to write off a new fighting game as old if it isn’t loaded up the ass with new features, as if the roster itself wasn’t inviting enough.

There’s a love thing going on between Alex and Ibuki in the Hong Kong SFG NG comic too.

Elena likes Alex and Sean likes Elena, not too sure how everything worked out though. :looney:

Capcom selling more stuff? Still haven’t gotten around to getting that 1942 Cammy T-Shirt or the Mega Man 9 and Bionic Commando Rearmed Soundtracks… They probably will get the Arcadia SF4 mook in the Japanese bookstore near me, have to wait until pay day to go see…

You’re kidding! I bet it was cheaply done.

ALEX: “Hey, cute ninja girl! You want to beat Gill’s ass! I want to beat Gill’s ass! LET’S MAKE OUT!” (rips off shirt)
IBUKI: "Good idea!"
RYU: “WTF are you doing?! :wow:”

Well, at least Ibuki got hers.

Speaking of which, she’d better make it in SF4 now that you-know-who’s coming to console. Timeless easter egg’s FTW.

Courtesy of Jigsaw from another forum. So… um, any idea if Sakura actually aged at all or not? (20 years old is still pretty young, I guess)

Still can’t open either of those images at work since the PC at my job is blocking access to those sites for whatever reason. From what I read, so Sakura’s still in her HS outfit, huh? Hoping her 2P outfit indicates how old she would be. Would like to see her in the outfit she had at the end of ‘Sakura Ganbaru!’ myself.

Dunno, but I hope she did. Hopefully we’ll find out in Friday’s update.

doesn’t look like she aged at all…

i really hope this is her alternate costume. else, she’s nothing more than an easter egg.

Sakura’s look aside, all is going according to plan.

I’d prefer Lucia.

After checking Sakura’s TGS clip, it looks to me like she’s maybe gotten just a little taller. Now despite her being 21 in SF4, her height should’ve peaked out shortly after the end of Zero 3 when she’s close to hitting 17. Her school uniform’s most likely her fighting attire, taking hints from both Sakura Ganbaru! and Alpha Generations, and yes she’d still be quite capable of wearing it at 21 as she was at 17-18 as long as she didn’t have a considerable growth spurt after Zero 3, as looks to be the case.
