I absolutely agree, I just wanted to point out that he’s not the typical boring main character he often is accused to be (for example by the guy from Cammyfan.com), neither is Ken. Actually loses regularly.

Yeah, the one that really kills me is when people say Goku of Dragon Ball Z owns everybody in Dragon Ball Z. Such comments always drive Dragon Ball Creator Akira Toriyama insane. He’s gone out of his way to show you that Goku does not own everybody - He’s NEVER won a Tournament, he needed his son to back him up with his first fight against Vegeta and his fight with Cell, he needed the help of the entire planet Earth to defeat Buu, yet people still think he owns everybody and that he and Vegeta are really far away in terms of strength but they are not.(They are Eternal Rivals just like Ryu and Sagat and are very close in Power.) Too many unofficial things like the Movies and Dragon Ball GT not made by Toriyama have brainwashed people…
But in Ryu’s case, in all of the Animes it’s pretty obvious he doesn’t own everybody. He needed SNH to beat Zangief in SFZ, he had to team up with Ken to beat Vega in SF2AM and he lost to Guile in SF2V.
You can see Ryu’s true personality in SF2V when he talks to the Guile in the spirit cave and thanks him for setting him on this great journey. While he initially set on this quest to be stronger perhaps beat Guile(again, revenge) he realizes that none of the events of SF2V would of taken place if he didn’t get beaten by Guile and wishes to meet him again only to talk things over.
At this point I didn’t know much about SF Storyline and I think this is when Ryu became my Favorite Video Game Character.

Goku won one tournament, the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, while practically dying no less. This happened in Dragon Ball. In terms of power by the end of DBZ, Goku and Vegeta are roughly as apart as Gouken and Gouki are if you look at the fanfic from FistsofFury “The Path.” Vegeta has to put more effort like Gouki while Goku and Gouken don’t have to work as hard to reach the same level.

Was that Tournament at the end of the Dragon Ball Manga run? That’s what we’re up to in the US. Even though Goku usually wins the Final Fight, something usually happens and he does not win the Tourney, it’s kind of a running joke.
And I still say Goku and Vegeta are very close, which is why they can fuse together without the other powering down, (and when they did fuse Vegeta became the more dominant one showing you how close they are) and neither has a clean victory between the two just like Ryu and Sagat. Yes, Goku has a slight edge but the difference in Power is not that much. By the end of DBZ, Vegeta does acknowledge Goku as #1 however, so you can take it as you will.
Hey guys i haven’t posted in awhile but i’m back. I saw you guys talking about the Sagat/Ryu rivalry and Goku/Vegeta i just wanted to throw in my tow cents. Now i’ve wacthed the entire Dragon ball and Dragon Ball z series(In my opinion GT does not count because Akira Toriyama didn’t write it). Now i’ve watched in in Japaneses backwards and forwards so I have to disagree about the Goku Vegeta thing. By the end of the show Goku has a huge power advantage over just about everybody. He is far stronger than Vegeta . During the Buu Saga Goku could go Super Saiya-Jin 3 Vegeta could only go to 2. And while he has lost his fair share of fights…all by extremely close margin(with the exception of the Cell fight) Goku is the King of the hill by far. The only people who are stronger than him during the Buu Saga are Kid Buu( and they are more like equal because Goku could have killed him if he could have mainted his power level in SS3) and Gohan. Technically after Gohan’s power was bought out of him he became the Strongest non fused character in the entire show. But i do agree that having Goku and Ryu lose has made them a lot more interesting as characters. Goku had to work hard to get where he was and it didn’t come to him easily. While i will agree that Vegeta trains harder it’s not by much. And while Vegeta trains harder i still believe that Goku gets more out of his training. Well that’s it for now expect more frequent post from me in the future. Holla!!!

Go against us and you DIE!!!..Simple as that
The tournament was at about the quarter point of the manga run. This one he does win, pretty much has to in order to continue the story.
What God of Death says is pretty much true. The reason they’re close in power for fusing (not that this matters for their type of fusion anyway since they don’t use it) is Goku has a significant but not overwhelming difference from Vegeta when not fighting, but a tremendous one if he goes all out. How come you say sano that Vegeta became the more dominant one when they fused? I don’t think that’s the case.
Thanks alot, vasili10. Like always, you’ve been a big help. I have another quick question if you don’t mind. Does Keith Wolfman have a profile in AAC or the SF2 Fan Book?? I found a profile for him at a Japanese SF-related website and I’m trying to figure out where it could’ve come from. Thanks.
Profile as in numerical stats (DOB, height, weight, etc.) or like a bio?
Sorry. I should’ve been more specific. I’m referring to numerical stats. Thanks.
S’alright. Neither the Fanbook nor AAC has such detail for Wolfman. So I don’t know where the stats could be from yet. What’s the page you saw?
BLARG!!! Hmmm…well, the stats could’ve come from one the SF drama CD’s. i’m not certain though. Anyways, here’s the link to the page:
http://www10.ocn.ne.jp/~zeroblue/s/fight/k/so1.htm
It’s a big list of Fighting Game NPC’s. It’s in Japanese, btw.

Interesting site, looks to have a lot of potential. Bookmarking it.
Thanks.
You’re welcome!
Understood, but what does it say next to fighting style in his profile (numerical stats)? Does it say Special Force training?
I think I put up a bio for Wolfman in the guide before but then took it down because it came from a drama CD that wasn’t confirmed to be canon. But… maybe my memory’s off.
I’m not saying that it’s definitely from a Drama CD. I’m just guessing that it might be.
Ryu
Well in in SFIIAM he basically beat everybody, he needed help for Vega (who is extremely unnatural with his psycho powers and flying ability and stuff) but nobody else even had a chance against him. He beat Sagat, Fei Long, the guy that looks like Mr. Damdoo, and finally Vega.
That’s what I liked about SFIIV, that Ryu lost against Guile. It’s a pity that it wasn’t successful in Japan I think.

Mostly because of the Fused name Vegiku, (or is it Vegeto? I forget.) more Vegeta than Goku. If the writer wanted to show Goku complete dominance, he would of called him Gojeta like the Movie did without giving it a second thought. I’m not saying Vegeta owns Goku once again, just saying they are closer in power than most people say.
Regarding Super Saiyajin 2 & 3 - Toriyama has stated the diffference between 2 and 3 is not astronnmically great, just moves the story forward. That’s why nobody reaches 3 other than Goku and Gotenks. Gohan has potential, he doesn’t train hard enough, that’s why Vegeta owns his Ass. Regarding Goku’s Saiyajin 3, when Vegeta became Majin Vegeta he once again cought up. Not necesarily in terms of power but that’s part of it, but he entered a state where he would blow up the entire Planet Earth to win the fight. As Majin Vegeta he knocked out the all powerful Goku with one blow. It was a cheap shot, but it was one blow. If the author wanted to have Goku completly dominate Vegeta, he would of had Goku beat his Ass plain and simple. This never happened because A) They are eternal rivals AND B) They are close in Power, but Goku has the edge.
And I actually hate Vegeta, like Goku a lot more and like Future Trunks (Not the punk he turned out to be in our reality) over everybody. That’s just my overall opinion on the situation.
Fighting style isn’t really next to profile, it’s in the paragraph I described earlier. I don’t blatantly see the kanji combo for “Special Forces,” just like I didn’t blatantly see “Tai Chi” for Chun Li even though that’s what northern Chinese kempo is referred to, so I’m not ruling out the possibility entirely. Before the stats in AASFZ3 it says Rolento’s a “weapons wielding together with hand-to-hand fighting” pro.
Red Beret can refer to Special Op’s Forces divisions for nations other than the US, where they’re often referred to as Green Berets. Red Beret within the US is mostly referenced to boy scouts. Need to read more on Rolento later to make a final decision…must get Eternal!

Ryu
Heh heh. Not that it’s Official or anything, but me personally thanks to Capcom’s retconning whenever I re-watch SF2AM I like to think that Ryu was charged with Satsui No Hadou when he scarred Sagat. Course the Movie came out before Capcom retconned the fight and SNH Ryu did not exist when the Movie was made, I just like to view it that way.
On a side Note, in the US SF Comic, Ryu is also said to have scarred Sagat with SNH. He didn’t fully morph to SNH Ryu there either - no black gi or Kanji on his back - like he was shown to have in some of the game endings in the SFZ series.
