See, that’s what I can’t stand about Mactards, their fanaticism is so blind. I mean, I understand what it’s like to be a fanboy of certain brand names or certain hardware, but facts are facts, and although Macs have come a long way vs PC’s in terms of gaming, the truth is, the PC is still the ultimate gaming platform. It’s why all consoles are based on them, except…unlike consoles, PC’s can continue to be upgraded to have the latest and most powerful hardware there is. Mac’s are still not as versatile in that department.
Not to create any kind of negative battle, but I do have to disagree a little. I agree that the majority of the battle is dependent on how you play. For instance, a good Ryu player could beat a bad Yun player, of if they are of the same skill level, then a Ryu who happens to choose wisely could luck out vs a Yun player who chooses poorly (Last Crusade reference).
But when you actually break down the characters, such as the twins and fei, they just have way more options in all areas than other characters. The twins can attack from virtually all angles, which is a bit unfair considering other characters, such as the shotos, cannot. Things like, if you throw a fireball as a shoto, the twins can shoulderblock through it or roll under and up kick you and the speed at which they do it is simply unfair. A twins player can actually wait to see the full animation of a fireball, before deciding to counterattack and the recovery time on the fb is so long that the shoto will get hit every time. Perhaps if they nerfed the speed of the shoulder/roll it would be more fair. Make it a bit more difficult for the twins to counterattack as currently it’s way too easy. The twins also have a srk, they have multiple moves that can travel across the screen, command throws, target combos, rekkas, dive kicks, it’s just too much for one character to have. And as far as Fei…well…for his arsenal of moves, his damage is just way too high.
If you took a look at the top tier characters for AE (as deemed by the Japanese on EventHubs), obviously Fei is up there in the Super Tier, A+ are the twins and A is Viper, Akuma, Ken. Now if you look at the top 8 from Evo, there was only one non-top tier (Seth/Poongko) and there were three Vipers, one Akuma, two Yun’s, and a Fei who ended up taking the tourney. This is evidence that it is indeed a bit unbalanced. Ultimately, even Yoshinori Ono admits to the game being unbalanced, which is why he announced that there will be an update before the end of the year to rebalance the game.
I personally welcome the patch. Getting all characters to be competitive will create more diversity among top players in terms of character selection, which, to me, is more exciting, it’s one of, if not the reasons why Poongko was such a crowd pleaser with his Seth. Imagine if a Hakkan came out of nowhere to make top 8? Awesome sauce right there! Bring it on imo.
