See, that’s what I can’t stand about Mactards, their fanaticism is so blind. I mean, I understand what it’s like to be a fanboy of certain brand names or certain hardware, but facts are facts, and although Macs have come a long way vs PC’s in terms of gaming, the truth is, the PC is still the ultimate gaming platform. It’s why all consoles are based on them, except…unlike consoles, PC’s can continue to be upgraded to have the latest and most powerful hardware there is. Mac’s are still not as versatile in that department.

Not to create any kind of negative battle, but I do have to disagree a little. I agree that the majority of the battle is dependent on how you play. For instance, a good Ryu player could beat a bad Yun player, of if they are of the same skill level, then a Ryu who happens to choose wisely could luck out vs a Yun player who chooses poorly (Last Crusade reference).

But when you actually break down the characters, such as the twins and fei, they just have way more options in all areas than other characters. The twins can attack from virtually all angles, which is a bit unfair considering other characters, such as the shotos, cannot. Things like, if you throw a fireball as a shoto, the twins can shoulderblock through it or roll under and up kick you and the speed at which they do it is simply unfair. A twins player can actually wait to see the full animation of a fireball, before deciding to counterattack and the recovery time on the fb is so long that the shoto will get hit every time. Perhaps if they nerfed the speed of the shoulder/roll it would be more fair. Make it a bit more difficult for the twins to counterattack as currently it’s way too easy. The twins also have a srk, they have multiple moves that can travel across the screen, command throws, target combos, rekkas, dive kicks, it’s just too much for one character to have. And as far as Fei…well…for his arsenal of moves, his damage is just way too high.

If you took a look at the top tier characters for AE (as deemed by the Japanese on EventHubs), obviously Fei is up there in the Super Tier, A+ are the twins and A is Viper, Akuma, Ken. Now if you look at the top 8 from Evo, there was only one non-top tier (Seth/Poongko) and there were three Vipers, one Akuma, two Yun’s, and a Fei who ended up taking the tourney. This is evidence that it is indeed a bit unbalanced. Ultimately, even Yoshinori Ono admits to the game being unbalanced, which is why he announced that there will be an update before the end of the year to rebalance the game.

I personally welcome the patch. Getting all characters to be competitive will create more diversity among top players in terms of character selection, which, to me, is more exciting, it’s one of, if not the reasons why Poongko was such a crowd pleaser with his Seth. Imagine if a Hakkan came out of nowhere to make top 8? Awesome sauce right there! Bring it on imo.

 Gonna make this super quick.

EVO was awesome to watch and even though I was shitting all over the Marvel top 8 matches, seeing Viscant take us back to the 90s was nice.

Weekend was amazing, I think I murdered Paul’s mini-keg, but forgot to get my egg rolls from Minh.

I cannot wait to welcome all the new and returning players when fall hits. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to keep track of who is who, but when fall comes around, it will be much easier. If you’re new and reading this or have gotten in touch with me and haven’t heard from me for a while, feel free to post up or send me a PM or something.

I cannot wait to play KOF XIII with another body. I will probably be ass, though, since *my local arcade cabinet has something weird going on with it. *Still looking forward to playing, though.

Regarding Cyberstorm monthlies, we are going to run a final Marvel v. Capcom 3 tournament this month on the 13th. If you guys want a specific format (teams, random, etc.), let me know, but for now it is singles/low damage. We will be switching over to BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II in September and may try to support King of Fighters XIII as well, depending on how well it’s received locally. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will be big enough to run on its own, so it may end up being side tournament stuff if enough people want it. If Ultimate Marvel v. Capcom 3 turns out to be something we can support, we will switch over to that in January, if not sooner. To facilitate the change over to BB:CS2, we will have a station or two for BB:CS2 set up at the upcoming August monthly for people to get the hang of it and get interested.**

As always, if anybody needs anything, stop into CStorm to see me or call me.*

So glad to have BB tourneys back after CS2’s changes and that terrific top 8 at Evo. For the Marvel tourney, I’d prefer standard damage but will go with the consensus. Is the date posted?

Minh’s mom’s egg rolls should become a staple of every meet-up. Please arrange with mom and drive downstate to pick up 2x/week (for freshness), kthx.

Staying up with you guys all weekend wrecked my week, but it was well worth it.

It’s all good, I was soo hyped after the tourney that I just thought it should have stayed that way, but after thinking about it you are right, also I remember ono stating the AE was purposly imbalanced before it released, and then when it came out people wanted it, and capcom gave it to them, and of course, they bitched at him anyways. So fans will never be satisfied, when the new patch comes out, people will still cry etc. it’s never ending.

@yannick, dude I read info on CS2+ I’m excited for that. I think Arc Sys updates are something I can tolerate, since they are free! lol.

I also would like to try fighthing a person in KOF 13, I won’t get far with the arcade version lol.

If only there were more people that play MK, I would have like to throw an MK tourney, but it prolly wouldn’t have been fair if I threw the tourney, and won it too lol.

I’m pretty sure we will easily pick up umvc3, it’s only a matter of time. I’m excited to see how nemesis plays, I will play as him, I hope his taunts is “starrrssss” haha.

btw, does anyone here have skills of building things with wood etc.

I wanted to build an arcade cab, but one man can’t do the job lol.

If nemesis does not have a lvl3 where from that point on, he randomly charges into the battlefield and smashes your opponent (even when not on point), I will be VERY disappointed. I demand an invincible assist of some sort (mostly so I can be cheap).

Admittedly a bit disappointed we’re switching over to Blazblue, since I have 0 actual experience playing that game, but I’m sure you guys will be able to get me up to speed. I did say that I wanted to learn it, this will help! Also, I wanted to take your money in Marvel at least once (guess I’ll wait for Ultimate then).

BTW, Strange/Nemesis/Wesker, get at me

I’ll play sum Brazbroo. I’m more of a Guilty Gear man, but just give me Iron Tager + Magnetism, and I’m good.

 LOL yehs

Low damage for MvC3?

 It’s a format that focuses on extended combo damage and meter management.

It essentially promotes smarter more efficient play and rounds up the health of the majority of characters without actually nerfing or buffing any characters in a specific sense. It’s much more entertaining and also allows playstyles other than left/right rushdown to survive for longer than twenty seconds.

You mean it promotes DHC glitching!

waves I am new in this thread but I have been around in Rochester for awhile but I haven’t really involved with fighting community that much as I should.

 You could look at it like that, but two things.

One, building up the meter for the glitch is much harder. DHC glitches certainly won’t guarantee a KO with the base damage reduction. Also, since the hitstun reset is only partial, you don’t get extended combos for the glitcher to attempt a 2-bar KO. You will really have to gauge the situation before attempting the glitch, as it may not always work out in your favor (besides the raw damage, of course).

Two, glitch teams aren’t OP in this format. Hell, they aren’t even OP in standard damage, where they 100% guarantee KOs. A glitching team is definitely viable and strong as a team strategy in this format as opposed to the normal format, which involves having three good characters who can just happen to perform the glitch even though it is not necessary. Glitching as a strategy is certainly doable, but it doesn’t overshadow the game.

The only real REAL serious glitch threats are maybe Zero and maybe MAYBE Taskmaster. Morrigan’s glitch is LOL in low damage, Phoenix can get decent damage, but nobody does extended combos with her to make up the meter that she needs (or does she?) and the same could be said for Sentinel’s extended combos. Those characters are not the only glitch recipients, of course.

I’m not saying that glitching is going to be hard to do, not worth it, or inconsistent. Indeed, glitching will be strong, but it will be strong as a tactic since meter isn’t as free and combos aren’t as fatal. I see where you’re coming from, but if glitching is being promoted, I feel that it’s being promoted in the right way, and not in a way that marks it as a tactic you need to use lest you lose to it.

Also, hello IntelliHeath.

You wanna make mvc3 more challenging!?..playing with the sticks up side down! how about THAT! lol.

Interesting concept yannick, I actually never thought of playing it like that, I must try this.

 Speaking of that, funny story.

One of the side events I wanted to run would have been 3 players against 3 other players with each player choosing a character, where whenever you switch a character from your team in, you actually have to pass the stick off to whoever on your team plays that character. I thought it would have been pretty novel.

Unfortunately, no side event quite matches up to The Bowser Challenge or alcohol-infused Blind Mario Kart Double Dash, but it’s fun to try to come up with ideas every now and then.

Gotcha, Yannick. I’m down to try that sometime, since I quit MvC3 again (Phoenix.) Wanna meet up at Cyberstorm?
Minus today, I’ll be free all week till Friday.

So is anyone still playing AE at all? I’d like to have some AE training partners out in Rochester!

Season’s Beating is October 14-16th too. I know we had a little craziness with it last year but I’m going to try and go again because it was so worth the money and coming back on the train at 5 am after no sleep. They usually have japanese(Daigo)/international(gamerbee) players and only 6 hours away! That’s pretty much the same distance to ect. Just putting that out there for now!

 I’m at CStorm pretty much everyday.

AND MAH SWEET NEW STICK PLAYS ON XBOX TOO GET AT ME OH YES

Jess, I know Minh will still be playing AE–this is almost guaranteed. I’m sure the usual suspects will still be practicing even though I personally won’t be hosting tournaments for it currently. I actually still have YET to touch that game…I wonder why I’m having so much trouble finding a copy to play.

Also, I am actually considering Season’s Beatings as well since I haven’t been out that way in a few years. I can guess that a few others may be willing to go as well, so if you guys have room in your plans, I’d love to join.

Magneto to Wesker DHC glitch does 1.07 mil in low damage, leaving you a bit short of Wesker/Tasky/Heavies if you dont use a team super at the end. If you do, it kills everyone in the game. If you start at 1 meter you will end the combo (before team super) with 2.5 meters. So I wouldnt say its just Zero and Taskmaster to be worried about.

I imagine having access to a ToD in this format is even better than in normal, since it becomes even more crucial to maximize your damage opportunities.

On AE and Seasons Beatings: I’ll still be playing AE, I’ve been playing around with Viper a little bit lately (last few weeks) since I figured out that her feints are like dash cancels in Marvel (lol thank you Magnus). I’m not sure if I’m willing to fully commit with her yet.

I’m down for Seasons Beatings. I might even have a car by then. =)
