is goggles on here? i think you guys are replying to someone else who brought him up? i was just kidding about that dig at him btw… he’s cool, tho i do zone him out at a certain point just cuz it becomes part of the background.
bring the hate, cole! i like it. let it envelope your very fiber and wesker combo trainings.
who plays smash for spacing? play hdr for all fundamentals. smash is teh kiddie so obviously they are more immature on average. no one disputes this!
LOL “Smash is teh kiddie so obviously they are more immature on average.” That’s for sure.
In regards to Smash popping off, I don’t think anyone here needs to throw around the disrespect word. That’s just how they (and some people, like me) are. I respect the smash kiddies and somewhat how they’re playing MVC3 so they have the right to pop off but at the end of the day I’m pretty sure we have more(better)players.
The 6v6 thing shouldn’t be this big grudge thing. I didn’t know it was thought of before me, but I was the one who most recently brought it up in the forum? Whatever the case might be, I used the word exhibition as that’s just what it should be, for fun. Yes we’ll be proving that our scene has better/smarter players too
but ultimately it’s just to get some games in, prove we’re better, and have some fun and add some meaning to our matches. IDK about you guys but it’s kinda hard to try when playing casuals all the time. At the end of the day, we are all 1 big ROCHESTER community, and we can definitely use the smash group’s help in leveling up. No beef, just pork (AND IM ROASTING YOU NIGGAS WITH PHOENIX)
About the team I listed vinh: I don’t think that should be the order, I just numbered it for the sake of numbering it. I agree with what Gary said for the most part. I agree that we will both declare teams there, pick our orders there (written down on a paper so it’s random for both) and play a match pokemon style (a vs a, winning a vs b) and so on. 3/5 sets with losing team switching order. (Team needs to win 3 times, we can swap out players like gary said if we play to 3 instead of 2)
I think we should keep it at 6v6, any more than 6 is weird and could take forever… We first need to see if everyone on that 5 person list (+cole/vinh/ray/whoever else wants to play) can make it for it. If some can’t make it, like vinh said we have backups right thurrrrrrrrrrrrrr ^. We still need a 6th so prepare to fight to the death IRL for that.
Real tok we’re gonna scrape them. I respect them but im not convinced that anyone but minh can truly hang with SF players. However, shit can happen. It’s marvel -_____-.
I agree with everything so far except the things you learn in smash. Obviously they can be learned in another fighting game along with the other fundamentals. It’s a party game, let it be party game onry!
Also, we’re sitting for this 6v6. They switch off members and we sit. Anyone agree?
lol.
Most of you know me as Goggles because you know me in person, but to anybody who knows me online, I go by K.I.D. i was thinking about doing a bit of trolling since i was pretty sure most of you wouldnt recognise this account name. But i decided against it since i probably do enough of that in person. =P
and since I only can relate amber and vinh to their account names im not entirely sure who im responding to.
deviljin:
Yea dude, things like that arent worth holding a grudge over, I learned a while back that i cant have everyone like me. but im still not gonna change my opinion of somebody just because they dont like/are annoyed by me. thats just petty.
Vinh: yea son, I wasnt joking when I was telling you about that. The only time people from here root for me in smash tourneys is MAYBE if im playing an Oos’er.
Flux: Completely agreed.
Rorec: I think completely blind isnt the best term. Maybe ‘Less knowlegdable’ fits a little bit better. playing on the ledge, and with marths up b gives you a pretty decent grasp on the concept of invincibilty frames and countermeasures for such. theres also a little bit of a high/low/crossup game with angling and poking shields. Theres a few really stupid option selects as well. but like i said it might not give you the full and complete understanding of all the concepts you come across in traddy fighters since they arent quite as prevalent.
amber:: lol @ “he’s so bad”. Money match in anything.
lilDshadow: thats pretty much exactly how I feel. and speaking of 1 big rochester community, Neil is looking for people to split travel costs with him for an mvc tourney in philly on sat. figured id let you guys know in case any of yall wanted to go with him.
also, your idea for the crew battle looks pretty good to me. except that if we are playing to 3, we would only need 3 people for each side, if im reading it right. if im correct a 6v6 in that manner would require the team to win 6 times. lol. also, im not really all that keen on the whole reseting of losses when you defeat a player thing, if that makes sence to you. im thinking each person on each team would go until they lose 3 times, and the losses stack so for example if smash A and SF A play a match and SF A wins 3-2 than SF A would keep the two losses when he plays Smash B and whenever SF A losses one more match, you move on to SF player B?
does that make sence?
oh, and btw, how many of you kids are sticking with sentinel now that hes a fair character? and how many of you are switching teams because you dont need to base your entire gameplan on ‘how to beat x factor 3 sent.’

Still sticking with Wesker/Dante/Ammy for now… I’ve been playing with switching Dante with Akuma/Mags/Phoenix. It was a pretty anti-sentinel team, but I never really picked those characters to specifically shit on him, it just worked out that way, but the team is really solid and versatile as a whole, so no worries.
I’m REALLY interested to see how sentinel’s new role will develop. They definitely went a little too far with the HP nerf, he should be around 1-1.1 mil… I think this reinforces what I believed about sentinel, that he’s at his best when he’s not on point.
Goggles: It’s dave. Whatever the fuck you said about the 6v6 exhibition is way wrong. Allow me to explain:
First I’m going to break it down to just a 3v3. Team SF has Gary, Paul, Nam. Team Smash has Neil, Gogs, Paco.
Lets say those are the orders too. Gary plays Neil. Gary wins 1 game. Gary stays on, goggles comes on. Goggles wins, Paul comes on. You get it from there… both teams play until one team has no more members. By playing to 3 just means that a team must eliminate the other team’s members three times. Everyone understand? That’s a pretty standard team format. Another option that I’m familiar with is just having everyone play everyone once. That would take too long and isn’t as hype.
I’m keeping sentinel for now… Trying to get a secret character ready by the time it’s time to own you.
P.S. (edit) goggles you would have a shitty brown font color :arazz:
Oh man, it’s Goggles… Let the salt… sprinkle…
what Dave is explaining is how it’ll most likely go which is nice and organized.
edit
Maybe have it like this if you want. Need to get stupid loose though.
- One player from one team sits down
- He plays the entire opposing team
- we record how many wins he has won
- he gets up and one of his teammates replaces him
- rinse and repeat until everyone on team who sits plays the opposing team.
Simple and less of a havoc. It’ll be long but it’ll be organized.
I forgot, did they do this at Seasons Beatings?

BTW Goggles this is cole.
@Vinh: you and Dave are describing two different ways of doing this.
Dave’s way:
- Teams select their order.
- The first two members play a best of 3 set.
- The winner stays on the machine, with the loser being replaced by the next person on his team.
- Repeat until one team is eliminated.
Pros: Takes less time, is more hype due to a more “elimination” style team battle. Traditionally I’ve seen Marvel team battles done this way, I think they did this for the MvC2 teams at SB:R, but I might be wrong.
Cons: Possibility of one person unleashing a can of explosive whoopass on the entire team, OCV’ing them. This may happen. Less of a “homefield advantage” between the teams.
Vinh’s way:
- One team is designated as the sitting team, one as the opposition.
- One team member from the sitting machine sits down.
- All members from the opposing team play this person, and their win/loss record is kept.
- After the last opposing team member plays this person, a new person from the sitting team replaces the first player.
- Repeat until every player on the sitting team has played every player on the opposing.
- The team with the higher number of wins is the winner.
Pros: Probably a more accurate test of which team is stronger, as everyone HAS to play everyone else. Everyone will get a chance to play. This is how US vs. Japan was done for SSF4 at SB:R (I think).
Cons: Takes an order of magnitude longer to finish. In a 6v6 we’d be looking at 36 2 of 3 matches of marvel, which is going to be a LONG time. There’s an advantage to the sitting team, as they get to sit and play win or lose, allowing for momentum to be built easier, when compared to the opposing team, who will always have 5 matches between their matches.
I prefer Dave’s method, its more like we’re actually playing as a team, and less like a bunch of individuals. Its also been how I’ve seen Marvel teams run in the past.
I was just suggesting the idea. idk, I like long battles because we can see a lot of shit happen but it could also get boring.
Most likely we will all want to get this over with and decide who the victor really is.
Maybe if Smash loses… never mind… the possibility of them NOT trolling is beyond me.
Ya know what would be great? If we could play those special versions of MvC1 that allow 4 players to go at it in true 2 on 2 action. There was also a version of KOF2k2 that allowed 6 players to go at it in epic 3 on 3. People used to play those all the time on Kaillera, untl GGPO came around.
Only problem is getting that many sticks.
And USB ports. >w<
That and several people huddled around a laptop doesn’t look good lol, although my laptop has HDMI connectivity so it could be hooked up to a big moniter or tv.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO. “My” method is not 2/3 it’s… jeezus.
PLAYER A VS PLAYER B
PLAYER A WINS ONE game. Let me rephrase that AGAIN, PLAYER A wins by taking out all 3 of player B’s characters. Player A remains on the station against team B’s C member. ONE GAME. That’s the standard 3v3 format. Vinh’s is the round robin format i also described. That takes forever and I certainly prefer the pokemon style. Like Cole mentioned, “Cons: Possibility of one person unleashing a can of explosive whoopass on the entire team, OCV’ing them. This may happen. Less of a “homefield advantage” between the teams.”" I don’t consider that a Con at all. If one player OCV’s the team, they need to re-evaluate their order and try again. And if an entire team is free to one person, then that’s kinda too bad. dont get OCV’d. We’re playing first to 3 victories so they’d need to get OCV’d 3 times.
Is anyone still unclear about how most team tournaments run?
btw, some of us are ready to continue playing ssf4 now that the marvel shenanigans are everywhere. I’m raping newbs with Rose/Cammy/Seth. Come at me bros.
i like the sitting team setup. i’d do it as one team sits and each sitter plays the whole other team once per player (best of 1). when everyone’s played once, other team sits and they play the first sitting team, one game per player. tally. i like this cuz it’s more of a team tally and less about the single best player, which we have tourneys for. i prefer it long (that’s what shi said).
I pick my forum posting color based on the color thats closest to my actual skin tone… =/
I like Dave’s method of actually doing it except that I like the one change cole made to it (albeit accidentally) instead of one game, you make it each match between two players to be either best out of 5 or best out of 3.
The only change I would make is that if for example i play vinh (hypothetically) and I beat him 3 games to 2. if dave is the next player on your squad, then I play him, but I still keep the 2 losses I got from playing vinh, and if dave beats me the first game, then we switch off to paco or whoever is next, but if I beat dave first game, I just keep going until i get that third loss.
I think that process is the best, because it keeps the hype going (if somebody has two losses, seeing how long they can go before they get knocked is hella exciting), it still gives players of either team the oppurtunity to build up momentum and carry it thru multiple rounds. And it has enough variety in situations to not get stale, and if one team is clearly better than the other, it wont take way more time and matches than necessary to determine as it would if everybody is playing everybody.
I also think this process works best if you do 3 losses before youre out as opposed to 2.
Ray asked if you need a person on the 6v6 match since he wants to play.

anyone still playing mvc2 around here?
sup smash kids
deviljin, Ray/cole/anyone can be the 6th person… havent really sorted that out i guess.
Since everyone seems to want to do the 6v6 with all kinds of weird different formats, I think we should get together a few of the top format options and vote for em on Wednesday or here. I’ve kinda stood by Pokemon format since it would be the least time consuming considering there’s a marvel and blazblu tournament that day too… however, if we have all day (I don’t know the hours details), it would be best to do round robin like Gary said. everyone plays eachother twice, and everyone takes a turn sitting down and playing the entire other team. Is that right? The problem with “my” format is that some people might not HAVE to play, depending on how free smash is to us. If our first, 2nd, or 3rd guy takes out their 6 peeps, players 4 5 and 6 never get the chance to rape them.
My vote is for what Gary said, as long as we have the time to do so.
you can call me Luis btw :), but overall I do agree with gary’s idea.
I guess we can all talk about it weds, since the ranbat need to finish and I can make my announcement since I’ve learned more about it.
But wait, will there be casual plays on the tourney on sat? or you have to pay the 5 to play at all?
normally, in things like this, you want to send out your weaker players first and save the big guns for last, just like in the actual marvel game. so if our first 3 players can beat your whole team or vice versa, than thats just tough cookies for the other team imo, and they need to step it up.
and I dont really like that idea of doing a full team round robin, since if one team is far beyond the other, and one team gets too far ahead, theres not going to be much, if any, motivation to finish the whole thing, which results in a lack of hype. Additionally, i feel its far too biased toward the team thats sitting, since as established, it gives those players time to find a rhythm while the other team has to wait 2-9 turns inbetween battles, which can be very jarring. only way to counteract this is to play the crew battle on multiple set ups, which once again results in a lack of hype.
