I remember watching The Union, and the first marijuana prohibition law was passed as a way of dealing with immigration, because it was mainly used by migrant mexican workers.
fun fact: the first marijuana law passed into law in America, was a law FORCING farmers to grow crops of marijuana
chinese immigrants would lure virtuous white women into opium dens and steal their innocence…look up newspapers from san francisco at around 1840’s - 1860’s. One of the bigger propaganda pieces that convinced America of the evils of the Chinese and their smoking habits.
sensationlist liked to use white women as further justification. Citing them as the weakest members of society. One thing moral crusaders have always done was paint women as extremely vulnerable to “vice”
I remember when I got shoulder surgery 4 years ago I got prescribed Oxycodone to take for the pain. I was so worried and paranoid about addiction I only took them at night right before I went to bed. This way I would never know what the drug actually did to me on a conscious level. Needless to say, I went to my doctor a week later and asked for something less addictive (he gave me Naproxen, which is basically Aleve LOL…) and I stopped taking the Oxy right away.
I don’t know what Oxycodone does to those who become addicted over time, but what I do know is that when I took it at night I didn’t wake up at all due to pain(which wasn’t the case with the Aleve). I hate the idea of not being in control of my body due to a physical and psychological dependency. Never tried any drugs and probably never will. I can easily see how some drugs can be habit forming even if they aren’t addictive, but at the end of the day it comes down to the individual and those around him/her that are willing to help.
How 'bout we fix poverty, cause in my experience people who have money don’t have drug problems. They have problems doing too much drugs. And then they go to rehab after their friends and family start getting worried because they can afford it. Why is it that rehab costs so damn much when the people who overwhelmingly get incarcerated for drug use are poor people?
In my experience drug abuse among poor individuals (which includes alcohol, of course) is largely a symptom of and perpetuated by their constant level of poverty. I’m pretty sure there are a number of poor people who abuse drugs who wouldn’t if they could get help and/or had a way to remove themselves from poverty.
Drug abuse is something that affects rich and poor. People with money have drug problems. Cocaine/Heroin gives no fuck’s how much money is in your bank account. God I hope you were being sarcastic, when you have people like Lindsay Lohan, Justin Beiber, and Philip Seymour Hoffman out there.
You do get a larger amount of people who are poor and turn to drugs, because most other alternatives are expensive. When you’re broke, and you got a beat up TV with basic cable, a dvd player with 3 DVD’s, and maybe a playstation 2 with 1 game and a busted ass controller, yeah, you could save up and buy something fun, which involves doing nothing for the next few months, or you could do drugs most of the time, and have something to do with your limited resources. These quite literally are the decisions that a lot of addicts and just broke ass people, go through.
It shouldnt be a crime when people can drink tons of beer and smoke cigarettes. We should try to get peope lto not use meth and crack though since theyre so poisonous. Make them take healthier drugs.
If we were always afraid of progress we would have never gone through the Industrial Age nor would we have moved on to automation and digital ages. I fucking hate Luddites.
