Winning using low-tier characters does not change the status of the characters. It only shows that the player using them is really good and it’s possible to win using such characters with the proper skill and knowledge.
At the same time maybe the low tier chars have no skilled players to represent them.
Infiltration’s hakkan, Momochi’s Cody, Nemo’s yang, that one japanese dan i cant remember.
People care to much about tier list even when they cant fully use their characters.
Its easier to cry than to innovate. So many chars flip between spots in a half year or so. Lets look for legitimately bad stuff like akumas overhead palm in AE rather than whining [and this is is not just because i have law in my sig i think he is toooo safe as well and could so with tweaks but at the same time if you remove his safety something better follow]
I think it’s less an argument about tiers in general, but that people’s perceptions of tiers are self-defeating and usually wrong, especially this early in a game’s life, especially from the average player.
New video up, now with the description littered with what I was doing
Special Tactics
0:22 Failed Slide Escape out of corner
0:38 Failed Up ball trade follow up
1:05 Intended safe slide spacing to punish sonic boom
1:19 Blanka Jump RH punishes recovery Zangief stand forward
1:30 Zangief jumps in response to potential ex-lariat, Punish nuetral jump with Ex-Backbreaker
1:40 Corner pressuring with low forward, transfer to stand rh overhead and reaction launcher after seeing zangief low rh
2:27 Safer, passive corner pressure with Hugo. I have a heavy lead no need to take risks
3:18 Strong tiger uppercut from Hugo
3:55 practicing running the clock
4:40 the presence of blanka’s slide is a constant threat
4:50 this is what I was really after, punish
5:08 Did lots of damage but lost a lot of meter. Strategy now is to turtle and build meter.
5:39 Should have thrown towards corner
6:38 Alpha counter and surprise hop to get out of corner
7:04 I use blanka super here for more damage and to not tag cancel hugo’s red life.
7:52 Surprise hop here is gimmicky as I don’t have frame advantage after the cancel stand jab
9:43 Practicing situational electricity buffering
11:00 Ex-Rainbow ball invulnerable corner escape
11:04 Confirmed whiff punish crouch strong into launch vs whiffed paul cr strong
11:17 Charging EX-lariat seems difficult to stop in the corner from this space. Conversion on block into blanka block stun infinite. After five reps transitioned into overhead. Was not confident in doing all reps online.
Bumping this thread, maybe we are playing Hugo wrong? Maybe he should be played as a Zoner, like Bison? jump HP clotheline/J+HK to space away characters… and just charge lariat all the time and counter hit with it like a champ? On knockdown choose to do his oki but with the lifelead just run away and get people to try and deal with Lariot. Maybe treat him like one of those BIG TALL guys who puts his arms on the head of a little guy whos trying to swing at them but cant reach. Just a thought. I mean with Lariot armor startup being bad for reversals now it’s best used in combos or at a distance. It would be like Bison trying to space with HK but instead he has armor.
