Visual Guide to Parrying Super Arts

Isn’t parrying it post flash more strict than parrying it pre-flash though? If you press forward before it comes out, you’re already parrying it and you would know that you’re parrying it. Post flash would give you like what…1~2 frames to get it right? Since you have to let go of the stick for the parry to register. Or is this wrong too?

Thanks a lot for the info. Information on 3S is really hard to find and really scattered around, I gotta say, in this sense SF4 is a blessing. Though I’m enjoying this game a fucking lot…I wish I was there when it was blowing.

Can someone help me parry Q’s super? I can get the timing for the first three hits, but the fourth is killer. If I understand correctly, all I have to hit is down? I got it once, but fudged the final hit, and haven’t been able to do it since.

Do I just hit down? or down-forward? or down then forward?

It’s down. It’s also a red-parry though, which may be why you’re not getting the timing down.

only the 2nd hit needs to be red parried on the trial.

Mr Devious, block the super a few times and listen closely to it’s rhythm. That’ll help you get the timing down to parry it completely. The low hit is a wee bit delayed, and then the final hit is also a bit delayed.

Some more parry questions…when people attempt to parry, what’s the optimal way to do so? Should you, say, tap forward twice (with enough room not to get a dash), tap forward then down, tap forward and immediately hold back, or what? In the air, should I be tapping forward all the time? Also, this might be obvious, but you have no idea what a noob I am in this game lol, I’m assuming in the air there’s no purpose in parrying low, right, since there’s no high/low?

Are there option selects involving parry? I’m having a lot of trouble finding this information…I stumbled upon it in a Yang tutorial vid (by Nica KO) where he shows the SGKS option select (whatever that stands for).

Thanks in advance.

no you tap forward at the right time. dont double tap anything. you cant mash parry. in the air you can only do forward.

there’s not necessarily an optimal way other than hit forward at the right time. other stuff depends on character, what you want to do afterwards, whats comfortable for you, etc. its all just timing.

did you read any of my posts- -

don’t tell players they have to guess parry something when they don’t

jump startup will definitely get you hit by sa2. by the time you’re starting to take off you’ll get tagged unless you jump parried with some insane dexterity.

also ‘preempt’ parry? you’re not coining anything, you just look like an idiot. preemptively parrying is something that happens constantly, we don’t call it anything special, we just call it ‘parry’. it’s not some special technique, its just a guess parry. Whether or not it’s a good guess is the difficult part.
