I’m excited, but it seems a little late to be much of a big deal; Sega picked a bad time to get shy, what with the fighting game boom of the last couple of years.
Hmm, I dunno, Virtual Fighter 5 only has a 3.5 star rating on Amazon.com. According to the ‘most helpful critical review’,

I’m sure ‘Final Showdown’ brings some improvements to VF5… but is it enough to make it a better game than DoA? Time will tell.

This is exciting. I played VF4 (not evolution) extensively with Aoi. I loved the feedback the game provided: it really helped you improve. I also like how they created AIs out of professional gameplayers’ data.
Why Summer 2012? Except for netcode, what needs to be worked on?
