Back when I first tried VF5, I didn’t like it either. But I had the game for 2 weeks from BlockBusta. So I kept playin. The first week, didn’t like it. But something happened when I was playing a match where I realized kinda how it’s meant to be played. Not just spamming moves or trying to swing ur way out of trouble like I was used to in SuperTurbo, but taking turns and blocking when ur stuff gets blocked, and to keep going if you land a hit. It was like my eyes were opened and the game became a lot of fun after that. Then is when I was really interested in learning my characters moves and how and when to use them.
I’d suggest with sticking to a character you like for a few days. And going through the command list training at least oncewith your character before you play online, even if you won’t remember it all. These cats got a lot of moves and it takes a lil while to learn how to fight with them. It takes a while to get decent/learnhow to fight with whoever you choose. But once you get the gist of the system, I think you and anyone else will dig it. It’s a really fun fighting game. But to each their own too though.
Yeah obviously I’m not going to give up that easily, it’s just that it’s quite a weird feeling after playing 2d fighters like Alpha and AE for so long.
I’m either going to stick with Akira or Shun di as those appeal to me the most.
I think the most important skill in Vf in the early stages is defense and learning your options on frame advantage/disadvantage. I went into the game knowing this stuff, and I still struggle. I think once it comes tgether it will he better. I have become really good at fuzzying now, but I always forget to do it in a match. I also don’t punish blocked 2p spam like I should and ny movement needs work. I’ve been playing Vf for years, but I always played decent people. So imagine what its like to run into ppp scrubs for the first time. The minute I start beating these guys on a regular basis is when I know how sound my fundamentals are. And learning to mixyp high and mid moves has upped my efficiency a lot. I can see why some people would get discouraged. You hear Vf is this really great technical game, but you can lose to scrubbery. I think this game really forces you to learn your basics first, such as knowledgeng how to use your frame advantage, fuzzying, and evading. I think until you know when and where to apply these moves, you will struggle. And this game really is frame intensive. I can’t wait to get my basics down and play opponents with real mind games and strategies.
I don’t know, but he appears to be a range character. That seems to be his strength. And due to his weight, he appears to be more geared towards defense. I know he converts throws into huge damage. And he seems to have simple yet effective 50/50s. Can’t say I know much about him, but I have a hard time getterng in on him. And he doesn’t exactly suck up close either. If anything he does seem to need space his stuff out though.
Yeah, it is interesting to think about. He feels like a tank, but he’s faster than one… I’m not really sure what to label him as, besides fat and good. haha
I heard from a friend that looking up the Japanese name for the character(s) you want to watch yields pretty good results for VF – haven’t tested it myself yet, though.
Those UltraChen TV broadcasts with LA Akira have helped tons. I find my self understanding and thus enjoying the game mechanics a lot more now that I understand the mindset behind them. I also took LA Akira’s advice to focus on defense first and foremost and only learn a few (basic) combos.
Learned like 3 basic Akira combos for which I have no idea if they are the best ones damage wise, but they feel fluid to me so for now I will just use those for abit and go from there.
EDIT: wlel I went online and everything I thought I knew went out of the window, I block low yet I get hit by a attack that hits me in the balls, every attack I do gets stuffed by the opponents attack, *fuck im salty. *Need to play some SF4AE to calm myself lol.
BattlecoreJP for more general stuff. Honestly you’re better off asking for character specific channels. Okikage also USE to have good vids, but I don’t think he’s uploaded vids in awhile (I don’t think he has an FS stuff).
A few searches that may help:
Beat Tribe VF5FS
Pre Beat Tribe VF5FS
VF5FS Railway
You’re likely to find clips of Railway and beat tribe matches with this. Guranteed to be the highes level play. Some clips are quite long (like 20-30) minutes. Also check VFDC, they often link you to Twitch TV broadcast. Look through the archive, you’ll find hours upon hours of footage. Can’t think of any channel names on Twitch, but you can figure it out easily.
There is also footage uploaded by Sega, like 6 hours worth of footage. IT’s all on youtube. Look up “VF5FS SEGA” and you should run into it.
There is tons of videos stuff out there for FS if you look for it. Hell, I find seeking out high level VF matches easier than seeking out high level AE matches.
You’re using Akira right? 80% of the time if I’m playing Akira online, im buttering people up with 66P or a 666P CH combo, until they’re convinced pressing buttons is the wrong thing to do
So I’m getting this game (complete edition) tomorrow after I check out what the psn discounts are. In the mean time I’m wondering what your favorite custom parts are. At the moment I’m quite partial to the “chatty” animals that talk smack…I have no idea if they’re really talking smack but it’s hilariously adorable
The more I watch online videos of Japanese players playing this game I come to regret one things. Not buying the full bundle so I can dress up my Vanessa. sigh He’s hoping Sega putting them on sale on Christmas
I’m currently got £10 spare on my account, nothing to spend it on. Those clothes are looking really tempted to my impressionable mind. Shame I’d only have 10 characters customisation instead of the full 19. But I’m sure I could eventually get another spare £10 and buy more pretty clothes.
Currently a 5th dan. Don’t think I can say I’m a newbie no more. Then again sometimes online is pretty free, I don’t think everyone on it is a VF player at heart.
After playing 100+ matches and only 3 being laggy enough it to be unplayable, I can safely say that this game has a pretty damn awesome netcode.
I think this game is turning me into a VF player…
