Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

We are all learning VF just buy items for your character so you look ballin in replays lol.
There has been so much good good news about VF but incorrect command lists are irritating. Oh well if you downloaded VF you have the net so we gotta look it up like the old days. No shame in Sega’s game.

If the move I think it is, it isn’t a typo. Throwing in the 2P just makes it easier to buffer.

Currently getting my ass kicked on #18 of the tutorial. Trying to successfully getting :df::df:G consistently after getting hit feels impossible. Been at it for 20 minutes now.

First VF game that I have ever bought. Still not sure who I want top play as but Vanessa and Goh look nice right now.

Am I the only one feeling input lag? I’ll test on a monitor to be sure.

oh. in the demo, it shows a punch being performed in unison with the down, so i thought it had to be done like that.

i had some issues with that as well. i don’t think you can hold the second d/f. it’s just a tap, then hold guard. if you hold the d/f you’ll still duck the throw, but the game doesn’t seem to let you block the dummy’s mid hit. might not help you, but knowing the difference worked for me.

also, iirc the arcade versions had 4 costumes per character. can i unlock the last 2 without the dlc customizations?

It kinda is a gimmick whenever they see you charge they can get counterhit 2P and it beat all your followups. played for like 4 days straight last week at UFGT and not one player let me get away with a charge mixup and most of these guys werent even VF players or hadnt played since Ver.C and have no Jean matchup experience. When they say hes fundamental thats exactly what they mean he doesnt really have any ways to open you up unless your opponent is intent on ducking which isnt that great of an idea in this game anyway.

theres like 5 set of costume you have to go to customize choose the c d an s versions and save them as costume data to use them

No clue. I have an ASUS that gets used once a week. Otherwise I play on a 52 inch Sony Rear Projection. I hate having to play on a monitor for FG’s. I like reclining back and kicking ass.

Who was thinking of VF at work/school? I know I was.

Wow, $30 for the complete package, what a steal. Downloading right now!

Yeah, after messing with him a bit I figured the huge charge time makes it an easy read and that it would be easily countered. Just gonna focus on Jean for now. I still have Brad and Jacky to learn eventually.

I thought you can charge cancel. If you do that then the opponent will have to actually guess if your going to full charge or not.

I don’t have the game yet, since it’s not out until tomorrow on 360, but when playing VF5 on XBL you could feel the input delay. The game still played fairly well online, easily the best online 3d fg at the time, but you could definitely feel the delay. I highly doubt sega made any changes to how the game handles lag, since it doesn’t seem like many people were clamoring for them to improve the netcode.

Currently trying to make a Brad costume based on Mugen from Samurai Champloo.

Wait till you get to #20.

It’s not fast enough.

LA Akira, did you go to the MoaT?

I managed to complete it by double tapping d/f without using G to avoid the throw. I predicted the AI pattern and hoped for the best. I doubt that what was intended but it got me through it.

#20 can go to hell. I no fucking idea to how to even approach it.

Not a gimmick. Let me tell you his charge -> mixup shit

Everything he has that can be charged and then canceled into something else is to basically cover your ass if someone tries to evade.

i.e. 33PK, if you block 33P you can evade the K to either side. However, if you do 33PK(hold)~P, you can do the mixup, and it’s a full horizontal that will catch evaders. That’s why even in high level matches NO ONE evades the normal 33PK because it can be charged and then canceled. This is also the same for 66K(hold)~P

Things get even trickier because for 33PK, you can max charge K and it’ll turn into a high unblockable. The problem with this is that if you charge K to a certain point you can no longer cancel it into the P, but it’s basically a 3 way mixup between the mid knee, high full circular chop, and high unblockable kick.

Then you have 4KP / 4KP(hold) KK / 4KP(hold)~K…

The first string is super good because the mid knee is SUPER fast and it naturally combos into the P. However if the knee is blocked, the P is high so you can duck it and punish it with anything. So to compensate for that, you can hold the P and then cancel into K, which is a low hitting attack. But since both the high P and low K can be avoided just by blocking low, you can charge the P and let it rip for a mid-hitting attack.

Jean’s a SUPER cool character to use, but also one that requires a lot of smarts. He’s not too difficult to use but definitely is not easy. If you can get his guard break down pat you’re going to win a lot of matches for sure.

Wolf…I’m settling on Wolf.

I’m seriously upset about the Americans getting the game for download before the rest of the world. However, I’m in absolute awe and thrilled that SEGA have released tutorial videos for the game, which is exactly what is needed for beginners to understand the game properly. Well done SEGA. I’m utterly amazed.
