Myke brought up an important point during the pre-launch stream. A month sounds like a small window, but the lab work has pretty much been done for us and the good stuff is already out there for everyone to learn. This of course doesn’t mean that we’ll be able to get to the level of Japanese play in a month’s time, but things aren’t as dire as they look.
Well yeah, I can kinda see their gripe about it when a top player from Japan is coming to compete and there is only that month or so to train. All about dat paypuh.
It’s funny cause a lot of people that are complaining won’t even go to Evo lol. If I had the chance to go I wouldn’t complain at all, I’d be happy to play top talent and get mauled. It’s all about playing people you normally don’t get to play, TBH I wished Chibita would have chosen to go to Evo. Hopefully a month is good enough for the VFDC cats they did really well at the exhibition with the limited amount of time they had. I also loved how 66P bothered the Japanese players as well, thought that only worked at Southtown but that wasn’t the case at all.
Some vids of special sparring over at westtrade’s blog: http://akihabaraarcade.blogspot.com/2012/05/virtua-fighter-5-final-showdown-pre.html
I haven’t played VF since Evolution. I liked it, but never put in enough effort to be mediocre.
How is 5? I could read reviews, but I’d like to see what you all think.
The Tekken 6 nationals did it worse, where some areas had to do a qualifier before the game even came out.
Anyway, I think a more constructive offer would be to save that prize for an American VF championship at a later date, but considering all those official tournaments are to boost sales, I doubt it would happen.
You should feel somewhat at home with VF5 if you enjoyed VF4E, but keep in mind that Final Showdown is very nearly an entirely different game from vanilla VF5. A lot of mechanics have changed, and some have been removed. This thread has a good list of all the changes: http://virtuafighter.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/285711
Keep in mind though, that VFDC has been slow as of late due to increased traffic.
So the graphics and animation have improved? skin tones are kinda too shiny for me in vf5 sometimes.
Newest set, final round of the grand finals was pretty dope(y?), haha:

I hope “Quest Mode” will still be featured on Final Showdown.
You should check out the link Soakrates posted above, it has videos on the new sparring mode. I am guessing the new sparring mode is something to fill the void of the quest mode players. Still curious about license mode though.

there is a quest mode equivalent - same thing just no “quest mode map screen”
Can you rank up in this mode? Or do you have one shared rank for online and offline like Tekken 6?
I have the PS3 version of Virtua Fighter 5 it still has a “rank up” feature but it never has online multiplayer.
okay thanks
I have not played virtua fighter since Vf2 on pc way back when lol. But for 15 this game would be a steal and i would be a fool to pass this game up. But im kinda curious tho final showdown is a stand alone game correct or do i need the original vf5. And also what can i expect just getting into this game coming from marvel/kof/ and tekken background.
Final Showdown is stand alone, you don’t need VF5. I’m sure someone can go into a more indepth look as to what you can fully expect, but judging by your other games listed the main problem you’ll have is getting into the habit of holding a button to block instead of just pressing back. Otherwise it’s not that drastic, especially if you’ve played a 3D game like Tekken before so you’re pretty good to go.
This release has a VERY extensive training mode, possibly the best to date.
So Im planning on getting this game, and it will be the first VF I seek to approach in a competitive route.
So Im wondering, are there any NY VF players that wouldnt mind giving me a helpin hand with the game at Next level or venues such as that.
I might be able to help you out.
