You had a great first round man. A few things I noticed though, you don’t grab out of your demon flips much, I saw it one or twice, but you could of hit it a good few more times. Also even though you’re hit by that damn SAII, you gotta keep your cool. You do a few things that just don’t make sense when you look back on it (like the short range c.hk). When you start playing without thinking, that’s when you lose. Try and notice when he gets what you’re doing. A few rounds in he started seeing all your air dives coming and was hitting all sorts of parrys. Otherwise good job to you sir
You started off quite well, but few things which cost you the game:
- you always looked to get in via the air, and the Chun player caught on and it isnt hard for Chun to anti air Akuma. If you want to have the mental edge when you jump in, you should first spam them with tons of air fireballs. You could have also tried jumping in with parries which would have worked very well against that Chun. Avoid getting in with the normal divekick - its easy to parry. Use it sparingly to hit them, but more often to just zone them i.e. whiff and see what they do.
- your short range ground game was lacking. There wasn’t any of the basic shoto RH sweeps to punish whiffs from Chun. You also need to block a lot more when you’re close to her. Its almost impossible to outpoke her, so either block or flip/teleport away.
- you lost your cool :mad:
Another minor point is how you went for low medium kick into lk hurricane when Chun landed from the air - lk hurricane is always a bad idea in that scenario - plus you don’t need that move against Chun since medium hurricane does a better job against her in almost every way. A better Chun would have super’d you in those scenarios.
One thing I like to do against Chun when she gets in close is jump straight up. Land with a deep air fireball so that she can’t punish - the only way would have been to hit you out first - so you can try air parrying the next time round. This is a really effective way of reversing the momentum instantly and is a good chance to bait something from the Chun player - plus it takes away the risk of eating a super at least!
I’m not an expert on the matchup, but I strongly believe that its possible to beat her using nothing except a zoning game involving well placed air fireballs.
try to land the demon flip very late against those happy-parry players, and do the mk.tatsu --> hp.shoryu combo to chun
I ate quite a bit of SA2 while doing that. It’s not a bad idea, but air fireballs must be done close to chun and really late to be safe against SA2; and in that case, stand HK/stand LP > gouki. And she can jump or dash under.
Yeah I totally agree, but I meant in the sense of using it as a basis for controlling the momentum. Once you go into air fireball spamming then Chun will look to do the things you just mentioned - and knowing that helps to prepare counters.
The only one that really gets me which I can’t deal with is when Chun walks or dashes under my straight jump. Seems impossible to counter what she does on landing in that situation :xeye: This actually applies to all the characters - even when they walk under my diagonal jump in, I can block or parry on landing, but this doesn’t apply with straight jumps. Anyone have the same problem?

Man I’m so glad you posted these. I used to have these matches on an old CD that I got from Gunman, but the CD got scratched or something and I always longed for that vid where ‘Akuma does divekick then jab jab short super which just looks too dope’.

well no you can still get thrown, but it wasnt really out of an aegis trap so raju wasnt expecting it - thus i got that extra bit of time to get the demon out.
