Ah, from time to time I revisit my vgm music folder and gain a new appreciation for a theme. I posted about the Toy Story 90s game (Genesis, SNES, PC) quite a while back, but it’s too good not to mention again. Particularly, Battle of the Mutant Toys. Listen to all those chords. Nothing sophisticated, but so damn catchy. The SNES version of this use to be my fav, but now its a very close second (Mega Drive version is also top notch stuff).
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask ‘Shikashi’s Dream’ by anterrior
Source is ‘Astral Observatory’. Definitely a less happier take on this source…dig the piano and the lil beat that kicks in about 2/3’s of the way in. Beat sections definitely do make this a bit lighter but overall it’s a bit saddened.
Final Fantasy VI ‘Ruffneck Terra’ by halc
Sources are ‘Awakening’ and ‘Terra’s Theme’. Halc takes these 2 themes and adds his usual chiptuney goodness to them but this time he adds a small dash of wub. The dubstep isn’t super heavy either and I think it does a nice job complimenting the chiptunes.
It’s entirely possible that might be what they’re doing. I mean, it’s not like they haven’t had people from there work directly on games before. BigGiantCircles, Zircon, pixietricks, and the entire group that did SSF2Turbo:HDRemix come to mind.
You still don’t have to pay for the music but if you donate money you help them give higher quality music and also be able to give you a physical copy of the cd’s. They talk about it in the video on the link. None of the money is actually going to the artists…it’s going into the music pretty much from what I understand.
I’m not ashamed to admit that i’ve read too many fanfics last week with this replaying in the background.

…and i plan to do it again this week.
Also, we were doing fine before with the way we posted VG music links before (three embeds max, the rest actual links, spoiler tagged). Let’s not start up with the mass youtube embed stuff again, please.
Tekken Tag 2’s soundtrack is surprisingly good:

Xenoblade Chronicles. The quality of music that each contributing composer brought to this game is on another level. The variety is refreshing, too; it has something in there for everyone. The ending theme song, “Beyond the Sky”, is of course composed by famed legend Yasunori Mitsuda. It has a slightly different feel from the distinct style he used when composing “Small of Two Pieces” and "Kokoro", the ending themes for Xenogears and Xenosaga: The Will to Power, respectively. The singer, although not the same singer as the one who sang “Small of Two Pieces” and “Kokoro”, has managed to sing in almost the same style for “Beyond the Sky”, which gives it a very nostalgic sound for those who grew up playing all the Xeno-games. The soundtrack is such a treat for the ears:

Valkyria Chronicles series. The games of this series have been out for a while, but no one has discussed the music. It’s good stuff, and kind of different from what the composer usually does (Same composer as Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII). Fantastic series too, by the way.

I was checking out Gilgamesh (Final Fantasy) videos the other day and I found out that he is in FFXIII-2. FFXIII-2’s rendition of his theme song, “Clash on the Big Bridge”, is really good. It’s in a classic Japanese style, mixed with a bit of rock. I personally think that this is the best version of the song yet. Listen here
Damn, did I sleep on the Double Dragon Neon Soundtrack. I thought it was gonna be misguided guitar arrangements of the arcade tunes, kinda like what Capcom did for SSF4. It actually has a variety of music vibes.

This one suprised me the most. Taken straight out of Enter the Dragon and those old kung-fu Blaxploitation films.
