Isn’t it funny how you find out about games through their music sometimes? Her are some examples of games I possibly wouldn’t have known existed until I heard a song from them in some form or another.

Heard this on a combo video.

TvTropes.

I saw a boss fight video of that boss. I ended up buying the game cause of that boss.

Never thought to post these in here but someone encouraged me. There’s a mixing community on Youtube that takes game soundtracks or game remixes and combine them with acapella of unrelated songs to fit in cool/funny/strange ways. Here’s some of my favorites. I was going to link the source tracks but then things started to get cramped… In these videos either the source is in the description or the video is posted as a response to the source so it’s easy to find.

Fukken sick whirlwind cover.

…was it a Guilty Gear combo video? That’s where I first heard it.

Hmm, this track isn’t really video game music, and at the same time…it is. Weird.

Well, it is if you’ve played Crazy Taxi.

I like this version of Sarah’s track on VF5R, quite guitar-jazzy with a piano melody.

I wasn’t even aware of that Wolverine Adamantium Rage source until Rioting Soul brought that remix to my attention a week ago. The source track is pretty damn hot on it’s own.

It was a SF2 one. I wish I could find it, but there are so many I’d have to give an hour to locate it.

Oh wait. I just found it.

And since it’d be rude of me to not put any music up…

I’ve been playing a bit of 2002UM lately.

Interesting, some are always going to work better than others. Not to discourage anyone from doing it. Keep trying until they fit well, to just you or others agree too.

Can always start at the top to get more people into this kinda thing:

Not game BGM… unless HnK PS2 games, or the XBOX & PS3 newish one included it too, but its too good to pass up.

Wow, this thread has slowed a bit. Well let’s try and liven it up a bit. It’s ā€œGuess what I’m talking aboutā€ time.

Yeah, naked truth lies only if you realize
Appearing in nobody’s eyes till they sterilize
Stop the guerrilla warfare to keep it fair
Bro, change your rage to a smarter greater cause
You know the stake is high stardom is near
Those who sympathized you die killers pass by
Do not waste your time in hating flirting guys
Use your might to AIs do justice to them all

Now I face out
I hold out
I reach out to the truth of my life seeking to seize on the whole moment to now break away
Oh God let me out Can you let me out
Can you set me free from this dark inner world

Save me now Last beat in the soul.

Hmm…

Google tells me it’s

Persona. Really should’ve know that one, but I never pay attention to lyrical pieces…

Did somebody say Persona?

Reached the monorail full moon level in P3, awesome music.

Warcraft 3’s soundtrack makes me want to play the game again, which is one sign of a great ost.

It’s a recent game, but Tribes: Ascend has a pretty dope soundtrack.

Your mileage may vary on the game itself, but I feel one of the new Nexuiz’s strong points is its ost, which is pretty high-profile if you look at who they got to do the music.

I’m still trying to catch up on some things on OC but lemme dump some things I’ve dled that I’d like to point out. I hope I’m not reposting anything I’ve put up before since I had to recover some things on my comp.

Final Fantasy XI Online ā€˜Paradis’ by mv

Source is ā€˜Heaven’s Tower’. Even without knowing the source tune at first, I immediately fell in love with this within the first couple of minutes. It’s pretty long at 8 minutes and is fairly straightforward with the source being quite easily recognizable throughout it. That being said this shit is quite chill and I’ve found myself nodding to it even as I’m typing this up. Love the way how it starts up with the ambience and slowly brings in everything else…and definitely digging the beat. In fact the only thing about this track that I could say I’d even have a problem with personally is what he tried to do at 5:03 in that section but it’s not even bad imo.

Mega man 3 ā€˜Serpent’s Spiral’ by Jakesnke17

Source is ā€˜Snake Man Stage’. Chiptuney sound with some drums added to the mix. Easily recognizable, straightforward, and quite well done.

Kirby’s Dream Land ā€˜Gliding on a Silver Lining’ by level 99

Sources are ā€˜Bubbly Clouds’, ā€˜Invincible Lollipop’, ā€˜Green Greens’, and ā€˜Star Jingle’. Kirby with some acoustic flair. Quite a nice job mixing all of the sources together.

Final Fantasy VII ā€˜Duel of the Blades’ by Kevin Penkin

Sources are ā€˜One Winged Angel’ and ā€˜Liberati Fatali’. High in energy but still so soft in most areas, A nice orchestral mix of both of these famous themes without the lyrics. The anticipation to get to the ā€˜SEPHIROTH!’ section and never quite getting there I thought was an interesting choice. Don’t know how exactly a feel about it still even after listening to it several times but I like what he was trying to do with it.

Final Fantasy VII ā€˜Mother’ by Moomba

Sources are ā€˜J-E-N-O-V-A’, ā€˜Listen to the Cries of the Planet’, ā€˜Mako Reactor’, and ā€˜Chosen by the Planet’. Digging the acoustic and the strings on this orchestral arrangement…not really digging the glass breaking lol. When I first listened to I felt it distracted from the piece overall and felt out of place with everything else…I’ve since uh…come to peace with it but even now as I’m listening to it I find myself being snapped out of zoning out to it by the glass lol.

Nier ā€˜Ancient Dreams’ by DJ Mistix and Sabrina Velenzuela

Sources are ā€˜Gerudo Valley’ and ā€˜Song of the Ancients/Devola’. Warning…This ReMix has lyrics in it but it isn’t english. I still don’t know when I’m going to get around to playing this game…and Gerudo Valley works so well for Latin sounding mixes. It kinds serves a filler between the lyrical sections and it doesn’t really sound out of place. Dig the use of the piano and the violin for when Gerudo was used as well…especially the second time. I also liked Ms. Velenzuela’s voice for the lyrics…she sounds quite nice imo. Otherwise this mix has a nice beat in area and is pretty chill. Pretty awesome for the first mix of this game on the site…Nier’s soundtrack needs more love.

On a small sidenote I was having a hell of a time trying to hear Chun Li’s theme in ā€˜Murkan Supreme’ and it took me forever to realize that he pretty much only used the beginning of Chun Li’s track on repeat on the instrument in the background for most of the track. (not sure what the name of that instrument is…I know it’s Asian in nature though). I feel dumb lol.

Liked for the FFVII and Nier stuff
