Tekken & Tobal
Tekken music has been gold from day one. The arcade soundtracks from the Tekken series are legendary and when bringing the earlier games to the PlayStation, Namco could have just given us the arcade scores and all would have been fine with that. However, they took things a step further and did arrangements of the arcade tracks, giving gamers and music lovers even more diversity.
Tobal has never achieved the fame and glory of Tekken or Street Fighter but it still has it’s fans. Even if you’ve never played games, you should still listen to the music. Lots of composers chipped in for Tobal No.1’s score, including Yasunori Matsuda of Chrono Trigger fame. Tobal 2 never came to America, but it’s soundtrack is highly praised even though it was only done by a single composer. Ehrgeiz was never part of the Tobal series but it did use the same engine so I decided to include the music along with Tobal.

Source is ‘Magical Sound Shower’. I can’t remember the last time I played OutRun so I had to listen to the source for a moment and then do a comparison. Very faithful to it but definitely did a good amount of deviation with pretty good guitar. I dig it.

source is ‘Stage Introduction Map’. I never really got into Ghosts 'N Goblins much so I haven’t heard the source at all. This track though is pretty awesome on it’s own. I dig the overall beat that goes on through it plus the concept behind this track is kinda cool. The Bad Dudes basically take jingles from games and make them into full fledged pieces. This is actually from their latest CD titled ‘Jingle All the Way’(No…it has nothing to do with Christmas) so if you want to listen to some of the other stuff off the CD then go check it out. Among some of the other games that they did was Castlevania, NBA Jam, Chrono Trigger, Metroid, and Megaman 3 among a few others.

This week I wanted to start doing something that isn’t all that different from the regular weekly shares. I wanted to start doing composer shares and since it’s Christmas, why not start out with one of the best in the biz?
This man needs no introduction, but I’ll give him one anyway. His music is highly regarded as some of the most stylized out there and he’s still an active force in the industry to this day. YUZO KOSHIRO
I’m sure everyone knows of his work on the Streets of Rage series and the Actraiser games, but there’s more to his discography. As stated above, Koshiro-san is still active in making sweet gaming beats. Along with sharing the familiar albums, I’d like to rep some of his lesser-known, but still great works.
Yuzo Koshiro is incapable of making bad music. He’s that good. I’ve yet to hear a score from him I didn’t like. There are no bad beats from Koshiro-san. Just those that are more awesome than others.
Most of the albums here are primarily composed by Yuzo, but some he’s collaborated with other musicians. Still great, so no worries.
