Yea the problem you guys have here is the games being re-releases are SNK games, not Capcom games. CVS2 is Capcom.

Yes, well I understand that, but since I’m guessing Capcom greenlit the release of MOTM for Switch (since their name is in there and all), maybe show an act of good faith?

Dunno, just rambling here…

And while we’re at it and Kong is a trending topic and all…

I don’t disagree with you, would be a good faith sign towards something people have been asking for, for a while. Problem is Netcode requires dev time so someone needs to be paid, and Capcom going “Sure SNK you can release those old dusty games with our characters in it” doesn’t mean Capcom see it as worth their time to do the same, much less put money into it.

I want CVS2 with online myself, just keeping my expectations in check.

Maybe an opening volley while they devise a plan of action for other titles?

A less disastrous version of the Darkstalkers ransom with Darkstalkers Collection. Honestly, I didn’t trust Capcom to make a new Darkstalkers then, and I still don’t trust them. . .

Gonna need to see some non-farmed out excellence in artistry from them before that trust is re-established.

Yea I don’t trust Capcom’s fighting game department. If there is a new VS title coming, let SNK develop the gameplay and let Capcom handle the graphical aspects. Not a developer myself so idk if that’s how things work tho

Shit I trust SNK less then Capcom.

Capcom handling visual design for anything in current year. . .

I mean if we’re talking the traditional anime style Versus game play, Arc System Works is the obvious title holder for that style of game and the current reigning champ for stunning game visuals. Sadly, ASW is becoming the Idris Elba of fighting games - the one name every chump knows, and the first thing they mention when a niche appears. (throws self under bus) :sob:

Capcom and ASW have worked together in the past, that’s also why I float the idea.

Sadly we exist in an era where fighting games don’t make a ton of money compared to other titles and require substantial development time. I am willing to see new blood in the game, or old blood willing to put forth some effort; but we’re going to need some smaller successes to launch that new era.

We need some pants wetting new visual kings to enter the playing field. Shooting for hyper realism isn’t my bag, and while they are doing magnificent things with the Xrd engine and style of visual development; I am not in the camp that everything needs to look like Japanese animation.

Somebody needs to develop a game that has a water color painting aesthetic that becomes wildly popular and gets run aground.

That long forgotten Prince of Persia game was on to an early attempt, shame they didn’t pursue that visual style:

Capcom only drops the ball with graphics for fighters because FG players will gobble up anything. Look at any other project Capcom has and they are a world leader.

SNK can’t make a 3D game that doesn’t look like melting point plastic.

This. Capcom’s art design is a problem in SF if anything, not their ability to develop breathtaking visuals. Ppl let their dislike of Capcom blind them sometimes

The art design itself is fine imo, (I would say the same for SNK by the way) it’s the execution where it faulters. Important to remember Capcom doesn’t really dev SF. They produce it, but they farm the work out. Half of SFVs assets are by a different company.

Didn’t know that, I thought Capcom handled all that. Well, that explains alot of things about SF5

Not this plebe! I’ve been #resisting Capcom shenanigans since SF4. I believe when all was said and done, I purchased Ultra SF4 on a steep Steam sale; but that was the only time Capcom of 2008 saw any of my cash for that series.

I grudgingly purchased SF5AE thanks to a steep discount, and because despite the visuals I find the game play to be more tolerable than SF4.

The Versus series was never my bag, and the only pleasure I derived from the pre-2008 games was seeing the delightful whirl Capcom sprite artists would put on Marvel characters.

May be the lethal one two punch of the fighting game division being shuttered for so many years and shedding many of the legendary artists that worked on Street Fighter to the anime industry.

SNK doesn’t get my hate, because they’re like that high roller relative you used to have; that ended up getting hooked on meth, and will enter rehab, but fall off the wagon again. Maybe they’ll pawn your bicycle for a fix while they’re at it, but damn it - you want them to do right. You want them to do right so badly.

Shit, can play CvS2 online now with like FC and shit.

For me FG’s are pretty much done. I dont ever pay attention to them and I dont play any. I just do not like playing fg’s online. No matter what happens, how good the netcode is or the players internet is the game is always fucked up. I can tell when shit is just slightly off and that fucks everything up for me. And on top of that there is just random disconnects and other shit that makes playing fgs online absolutely no fun for me.

Online is fun for putzing around with friends. I view it sort of the same way I viewed SF2 on the SNES as training for the arcade.

Sadly arcades are long gone, and it’s harder and harder to get together with friends in person these days. So your point still stands. :upside_down_face:

Yea my cousin stole a bunch of shit from my room to sell for drugs some years back.

I don’t talk to that fucker anymore.

I give up playing when I got too many people quit mid game.
Ether due to I am winning or they have shit internet and disconnected.

I would play online if I can get a actual match in.
I don’t mind my win lost ratio at all, I yet to lose a single match on my PS4, mostly because people exit out mid match and I got awarded the win

It may be a deterrent; but it is a necessary filter for fighting games to implement penalties for disconnects and dropped matches. There’s really no reason to cultivate disrespect in the userbase.

I can’t count the number of times I waited in a damned lobby only to be kicked when my first match comes up. Like dumbass, if you want a private room - MAKE A PRIVATE ROOM! At least let me catch a W/L before booting me. Hell, there should be a penalty for that shit as well. Software should look and go, “You’ve kicked X many players from Y room with no matches. We’re removing your room creation privileges for a week.”

Maybe I’m crazy, but I believe there are ways for these software developers to analyze the metrics, and create software that fosters a better online community. On the other hand, the first person that develops that will patent it and everybody else will be hosed. Same reason we never got solid training modes in old games, patents! I actually tried searching for that 1990-2000’s era patent Sega or Namco filed for fighting game inputs; but got bored and frustrated searching Japanese patent filings with poor results.

Seriously though, PENALTIES! Drop too many ranked matches? Enjoy your demotion. Keep it up? Enjoy starting over from scratch.

As Starscream said to Dr Arkeville, "youre not pretty, but you are functional.

Describes me, my car, and most SNK fighters.

Garou MOTW, KOF 12, and KOF 13 seem to be the only exceptions.
