I think a lot of it depends on how you feel about MK. Some of those 90s era SNK games look and feel terrible, but they have a certain style that’s relatively unique to them, much like the MK/injustice games do. If you don’t like it that’s fine, I get it, but I find it a lot more compelling than pretty much any SF game post 3s.

There are memorable tunes in the early MK games to me. They aren’t really “great” music or anything IMO, but I remember them and I think they fit the game very well. The music in the old games is more low key but the emphasis is on the sound effects.

That is an area that recent MK games lack YYYUUUUUUUGGGGGEEEEELLLLLYYYYY.

The old MK games have much better sound. Hits actually sound like they hurt. Same with the grunts, special moves, etc. Everything about them is better. The sound of Scorpion’s spear hitting the opponent in MK1 is so distinct and impactful. Then he screams “GET OVER HERE!” Hell the sound of moving the cursor on the character select screen and then pressing the character select is even good.

But it makes sense why they put more care into sounds and making things impactful back then. They were fighting for sound space in loud arcades. I just wish they cared about that for home games now. The only one that has been close was the sound in the Killer Instinct reboot, but then Keits went and fucked that franchise up so fuck him.

Damn I’m about to boot up my MAME cab and play some MK1 and MK2 cause you all got me fiending for it now.

You can play the first 3 MK games with online matchmaking for free through Fightcade 2. :eyes:

Dammit, now there’s a bit of “drama” around my precious Bloodlines 2, I see… apparently they fired some people from the team, at least 1 or 2 of which were lead writers on the original Bloodlines.

as you can imagine… plenty of fans are NOT pleased to say the least… I’m reading thru some of the comments on their fb page at the moment…yeahhhh this isn’t going over well at all.

I still want to get it, but it’s good I didn’t pre-order. I held off just because it seems questionable to offer up pre-orders on something that still has no official release date. The 2nd delay and now this situation; it’s not a good look at the moment. :frowning:

edit—hold on though… one bright spot here:
"Paradox added that Alexandre Mandryka (Assassin’s Creed, Wahammer 40,000: Space Marine) had been brought on to fill the creative director role."

Ok… I never cared for the AC franchise but Warhammer Space Marine was The Shit, man…tragically underappreciated game there… so there’s some silver lining there at least, imo. Naturally I am also hoping they use the extra time from the latest delay to add a 3rd person perspective…kinda doubtful but it would go a long way in making the game that much more appealing to me.

TBH, i only recall 4 tracks at most.
All the MK music has been forgetable in general.

PS2 era games definitely has nice music. Once Midway died it all went downhill

Surprised no one posted this here

It seems that the crisis of Roshi sucking by default has been adverted, at least partially.
His dash seems to be him propelling using a Kame hame ha, so is probably gonna be only an aesthetic change.

Case for some of the music during DA-Arm section of MK

Wonder if his dash has a hitbox behind it because of this…

It has to, right? It’d be really stupid if someone is standing right in that beam and it just phases through them lol.

Might be some interesting overhead left right mixup stuff going on with his super dash if that’s the case…

This is one of those characters that I can’t get a bead on at all before release. GT looked so insane even before release, it almost seemed obvious he’d be good, but here I can’t tell. We’ll see I guess.

I haven’t paid much attention to MK music since the movie came out. And I have played or owned all but four games in the franchise since, excluding MK vs DC or whatever that was called.

But most of the time with other fighting games and the MK games tune out the music and sound effects for other media.

Took longer than expected but new CoD is still coming (for the 2 or 3 that still care).

I don’t care much about CoD…but the premise is interesting. Don’t have many shooters dealing with the Cold War.

It kinda has gone full circle. OG Black ops 10 years ago was cold war

it kind makes sense as then peeps were tired of modern shooters. now peeps are tired of future ish shooters so that’s why MW2019 became a thing. Going back to where it started lets them refresh things.

Black Ops 1 is still one of my favorite Call of Duty’s for that campaign alone. They explored so many different and interesting concepts that touched on real history. It was also a high point for Zombies and map design in general. I mean, it gave us fuckin Nuketown bro. Legend.

Game was just insanely creative in a lot of ways. Even the main menu was interesting and full of its own little secrets.

It also spawned what is probably my favorite COD of all time: BLOPS 3.

so is COD BLOPS Cold War a remake of BLOPS1?

I’m gonna say probably not.

BLOPS2020 is new…juts like how MW2019 dabbles with established characters but is a new story.
