I could swear Rygar predated GoW and DMC1 but it came out after DMC1 as well.

Heh yea you are remembering wrong. Rygar is 02, bout a year after DMC1.

DMC1 pretty much codified the action game genre so basically everything in that genre came after it. It’s the grand daddy of modern action games. Bet you money Rygar has fixed RE cameras because of DMC1.

The only action game I can think of that predates DMC1 is Onimusha but those games were 5 months apart. Not enough time for one to influence the other.

Yewh it pisses me off that all these so called ā€œCastlevania fansā€ call LoS a GoW clone and yet Lament was the first game to use that kind of combat system.

LoS actually has a pretty rich combo system, especially compared to LoI and GoW but those bundles of sticks wouldn’t know as they probably spammed 2 moves thru the whole game (if they even played it at all) and then called it ā€œnot too deep.ā€ The CV community is full of zoomer trash these days :unamused:

The juggling in DMC1 was inspired by a glitch Kamiya stumbled on in Onimusha that let him juggle enemies in the air, so Onimusha actually did influence DMC1, was just during development instead of after release like how it usually goes.

New PC is finally all up and running bois. I am a happy bastard. It stomps everything I’ve thrown at it so far at an unwavering 60 FPS/1080p or 60/4K. I might see how it does with streaming too, I think I have enough juice to be able to stream at full/nigh-full settings while maintaining 60. I streamed Diabro 3 and Path of Exile back in the days, and I’d like to try it again but with a camera setup at the same time.

Asus 570-p motherboard
Ryzen 3700X
RX 580(I wanted better but I’m sure you guys remember me talking about my old video card shitting itself. Still, the 580 is outperfoming my expectations and is dumping on everything.)
16GB Corsair 3200mhz RAM(I don’t think Ryzen or this MOBO plays nice with 3600MHZ RAM)
1TB NVMe Samsung SSD
Corsair VS650 PSU
2TB 7200 RPM Hitachi HDD with a sexy light blue board(carry over form my old PC, everything is still on there)
500GB 7200 RPM Western Digital HDD with a not as sexy green board(carry over from my old PC, again everythang made the transition.)
Some cheapass case. The fans that come built-in with the case are kind of loud, I’m going to unplug one of them to see if the case quiets down. I had to skimp somewhere and this is where I skimped a bit, haha.

Feels good man. Everything is so goddamn snappy, it’s much faster than my old PC and doing anything on it just feels good. I can snap in and out of programs/games no problem, whereas on my old PC I couldn’t really do that without waiting in between a bit.

On a similar note, I didn’t know the Onimusha game on PS4 was a remaster of the first game. Might have to check that out.

It’s still a blast to play even if it’s kind of simple by todays action game standards.

It’s a shame they didn’t remaster Oni 2 or 3. 2 is my favorite in the series and is still a top shelf PS2 era title imo.

Yea, I wonder why they only did the first one tho. Probably likeness royalties. I’ve heard the HD Onimusha 1 release was lazy but I don’t know any details. Just what I heard.

IIIRC, I believe it’s one of those remasters that just increases the resolution and frame rate and nothing else. Fans were pissed that it didn’t include the content from Genma Onimusha.

I’d say it got almost as much effort as the REmake re-release. They added true analog controls instead of only having ā€œtankā€ controls like in the original, and it seems to output @ 1080p. Backgrounds are looking pretty crisp, but even then the backgrounds weren’t nearly as detailed as they were in Oni 2.

Oni 2 with the remaster treatment would look fucking insane. They dropped the pre-rendered backgrounds with 3, and because of that I think 2 would look better overall.

Yeah, I’m not too familiar with the original game anyway so a bump in resolution and frame rate is more than enough for me.

Dont remember the Genma content being worth throwing a fit over, personally.

Honestly sounds like what a remaster should be. The industry has done a good job of mixing up the words remaster and remake/retool.

True analogue is a decent addition. I keep seeing it for pretty cheap. Keep wanting to scoop it up, but I have all of them for PS2 so I keep passing it up.

The higher frame rate alone will be great for you. Issening won’t be nearly as frustrating as it sometimes could be in Oni 1 during big or crowded moments.

Have you played any Oni games? You’re missing out on some real genuine PS2 treasures if you havent. Even Dawn of Dreams is quite good.

The Genma content is nothing special. It’s one of those cases where fans wanted the remaster to be the definitive version of the game. In that sense I can understand being upset about that content being left behind.

Yea I can see that. Probably got left out due to updating the PS2 version instead of the Xbox version I bet. I remember it being the kind of content that would be nice to have for completions sake but I personally don’t mind it bot being there either.

BIASED ONI TIERS

Onimusha 2: the GOAT. ā€œJUBEIIIII, JUBEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIā€
Onimusha 3: Jean Reno Edition. ā€œOHNREE, OHNREEā€
Onimusha 1: ā€œThis man will eventually conquer the world under the name Hideyoshi Toyotomiā€
Onimusha 4: Hideyoshi is running shit now.

I would agree with that tier list.

I’m hoping that the recent successes of Sekiro, Nioh and the hype surrounding Ghost of Tsushima means Capcom will dust off Onimusha. Not too Japanese to succeed in the west now.

Lol, fun? The driving in Sleeping Dogs is shit, plain and simple. Worst driving physics I have ever experienced in a videogame

Lament of Innocence released in 2003.
DMC1 came out in 2001

Well…they did make an HD remaster of an Onimusha game recently, so depending on how much public interest that one had + the seemingly recent rising popularity of Samurai-ish games perhaps not all hope is lost. Next generation is only less than a year away, perfect time to bring back the series full scale

Xenosaga almost got a remastered collection
