I agree with James basically 1:1 with his opinion on Majora’s Mask.
I love how weird and dark the game is, but I just find it so goddamn tedious to play. I’d usually get to the dungeon with the Gorons and then I’d just stop. The last time I played it was on the Collector’s Edition Gamecube disc, and I got to the boss in the first dungeon and…my time ran out, the dungeon reset and I was so salty I haven’t bothered to ever try replaying the game since. James has a…very, very similar thing happen to him too, and I feel his salt.

i was playin dmcv just now. mission 10.
i did royal guard back+O. think its called royal revenge? idk.
well anyway, i did royal revenge and activated DT the second it hit.
there was so much hit spark from both moves connecting my game crashed.
my pc couldnt handle Dante.
btw.
dmcv has a weird grade system.
it depends on one thing.
your max damage at a given time. so if you do max damage while your style rank is D.
it gives you a bad grade.
you could do a never got hit run, with SSS style held for 15 minutes straight, but if your max damage that you did was while your style rank was at D…bad grade.

I personally hate everything about Majora’s Mask including the miserable world of Termina (so much so that I welcome the moon destroying everything as there is nothing worth saving). I usually love the cohesive design of Zelda games, but this spinoff is the product of a disassociated effort and mindset. Its nature is paradoxical as it revolves around experimentation and exploration but punishes the player for doing so as what it often wants the player to do is stringent and always at the cost of something (as the world’s offerings are dynamic and numerous in ways that warrant life wasting investigation for effective planning). A game’s purpose is to be entertaining and relieve stress. This abomination does the opposite. It also introduced that disgusting Tingle thing so…

ha, good thing I skipped Majora’s Mask…and the N64 in general, really… from watching that vid… I don’t see even the slightest bit of fun to be had there. Conceptually it sounds interesting though, with the general premise, and I like the idea of the enemies simply called “Them” (apparently inspired by the “Flatwoods monster” alien), but they appear to be a very minor aspect of the game.
Later on I got Majora’s Mask as a bonus disc with Wind Waker for Gamecube (I think it also had Ocarina of Time…), but I only played a little of Ocarina before quickly moving on to Wind Waker. Even by the time of the Gamecube, those old n64 graphics were SO ugly…it was a constant eyesore…not sure how anyone can go back to playing around in those visuals.
No. You can see your kill/death ratio when a match is over. You can’t see the amount of deaths you have on the scoreboard in the middle of a match. They came out with a cosmetic pack that costs 20 bucks. In it is a watch your character can wear called Time To Die. It shows how many deaths you have. They had some bullshit reason for taking deaths out in the first place, but the point is that now we’re getting sold something we used to just have.
I’m so happy I skipped out on this game.
With the inverted song of time you get 3 hours for every 3 day cycle. That’s far more then enough time to accomplish any quest in the game, if you run out of time you time management skills are terrible, or you got stuck doing a dungeon I guess. That can be a little annoying but you should make even better progress the second time and have more then enough to finish up. Pretty much no different from dying in any other game (cuz you ain’t gonna die in this one, it ain’t hard like that.)
Like the time thing in MM is so over blown, it’s so fucking easy to manage your time in that game. You even get an in game note book that tracks when events happen to the second.

I can understand some of the gripes regarding time in MM but for me the only time it becaame an issue really was when I actually got stuck in something and time was winding down…but that’s the name of the game though. You are supposed to feel that pressure throughout the game even when it provides ways to alleviate it. Bill Murray couldn’t do everything he wanted to in his time loop on his first few runs either…shrugs

Yea I mentioned getting stuck in a dungeon being frustrating due to time, but that’s not much different to me then dying, which isnt something that’s gonna happen to you in this game, so it’s nice to have some kind of repercussion for not doing well, imo. Most 3D Zelda games can just be skated through with little effort. Also you should be able to easily get back to where you where cuz you already know what to do. Like I feel people have the wrong idea about the time system, it’s more of a repeatable NG+ system then anything. You get to NG+ Majoras Mask whenever you want. It’s at your whim. If you spent 2 days unlocking the dungeon then just go back to day 1 and teleport to the dungeon entrance, play inverted song of time and now you have 3 hours to do the dungeon. No Zelda dungeon in any Zelda game takes 3 hours to complete so you have well more then enough time. “Well i dont want to lose my money” you can teleport to town whenever you want from where ever you want. Maybe not from a boss room, i dont remember, but if there is a limit that would be it which is a hella small limit on such a skill.
Majora’s Mask bends over backwards to make time work for you, and to give you tools to alleviate some of the features that would be frustrating otherwise. Everyone ive met who didnt like the time system at first grew to love it by the end because they realized it was highly manipulatable and could be used to cheese the fuck out of the game if you just take the time to learn how it works and use it in conjunction with other abilities like the teleport. Every Dungeon Entrance has an owl statue near it for a reason. Those are teleportable check points my bros.
The best part of all of this not only do you get a really unique system to toy around with and bend to your advantage, but that same time system allowed for a very alive and realized world full of NPCs who are actual people instead of pretty talking road signs. They legit have lives, do shit, desires and dreams that can fullfilled. In a lot of ways this game did Shenmues “alive world” a few years before Shenmue did.
Absolutly amazing game.
