The SNES port is what actually got me into Street Fighter.
My parents bought that for me one Christmas, since I didn’t have a PS1.
With the Canadian dollar being shit at the time, it legit cost like 120 bucks.
As a software engineer, i love this series.
Is very informative about how old school games were developed.
So, I’m starting a GameCube collection. I’ve been trying to decide for awhile now between collecting PS2, Sega Genesis, Gameboy Advance, or just buffing up my PS3 roster. I figured since GameCube stuff is going up in value over the last few years, why not. I’ve always had a massive amount of love for the system and it’s library, so it’d also just be really fun to re-explore a lot of those games again or maybe even try some I never got to play. It seems like the PS5 is pretty likely to play all my PS1, 2 and 3 games too, and I already have backwards compatability with all the OG Xbox games I would want to play anyway.
I picked these up today:
lAlready finding some fuckin bangers. Rise of Imperfects was an unbalanced mess but goddamn did I have a ton of fun playing it. Magneto cleaned shop in that game erry time. I have a store across town holding copies of Metroid Prime 1&2 for me as well, picking those up later today.
I didn’t realize how crazy expensive and sought after some of these games are, man. Resident Evil 2&3 are both $70 or more. Online AND at my local game shops. Cheapest I’ve seen it online is still over $50. Melee is around that price too.
That’s part of the fun tho. I’ll be frequently checking my local game stores now to see if I can snag stuff on the cheap. Thankfully a lot of the shitty titles that I loved are super easy to find AND cheap (like Shadow the Hedgehog or Sonic Riders, lmao).
I think the top 3 games I’m gonna prioritize picking up next are gonna be Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine and Kirby Air Ride.
What are some GC games you guys used to enjoy? I always had a ton of fun with the niche shit that would come out for that thing, like Cubivore or Smashing Drive.
Ikaruga and Viewtiful Joe instantly spring to mind.
Ah, hell yeah, I’ll have to pick up 1&2.
Sucks that other game is a PSP Exclusive. Couldn’t you play as fuckin’ Dante in that one?
Edit: I see my memory didn’t deceive me for once
Custom Robo
PN 03
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Baten Kaitos games
Dante isn’t in the Cube version. He was added to the PS2 version.
Custom Robo needs a switch sequel or a remaster. Highly underrated.
MGS: Twin Snakes
F-Zero GX
REmake
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II & III
And this game that is supposedly really good, but I haven’t tried out my copy yet:
It’s pretty easy to get all of the “must haves” for the ol’ GC. My personal collection is almost comprete. Sure, some of the titles can be pretty expensive but I’d argue it’s super easy to collect all of the “must haves” since there isn’t that many imo. I feel the same way about the original suXbox too.
PS2 is a whole 'nother beast though, I have 100’s of titles for that thing and there’s no end in sight when it comes to titles I’d like to try.
I bought a GameCube specifically for this game
One of my favorite GCN games was Rogue Squadron 2. I wish another game would be made, but I don’t see EA doing it (Factor 5 is no more), which is unfortunate because the starfighter mode is the best (maybe only?) thing worth playing in BFII.
I miss Rogue Squadron…the 2nd game was a technical marvel when it first came out. Top notch graphics, sound design, and controls. I remember booting that game up for the first time and just being in awe of everything. Game still holds up pretty well today if memory serves correct. I hope DF retro does an episode on that game if it hasn’t been done yet.
looks like they only did a framerate test
I need Disney to let SOMEONE release a hd remaster trilogy of all 3 games so people can play them on current consoles. They are easily among some of the best Star Wars games released.
Extra
I haven’t played the new Star Wars game but the Jedi Knight series and Force Unleashed II are my overall favorite Star Wars games.
Force Unleashed II is so good that, it’s ALMOST DMC/Bayo/Ninja Gaiden tier. It’s so, so good. The combat is fantastic and the animations are amazing, mainly because of dat Euphoria engine(which GTAIV, Max Payne 3 and some other titles used.)
One thing I remember about the Jedi Knight titles is how if you were playing online and you were challenged to a lightsaber duel, no one else could interfere or do any damage to you in any way. That and the seamless switching between first-person and third-person depending on your weapon blew my mind. RIP Raven.
I am actually waiting on a GC loader, so I can boot my Gamecube games off a SD card instead of disc.
I purchase Force Unleashed 1 and fucking hated it so I skipped II. I bought Jedi Knight II for my Switch and the FPS shooting segments are so fucking terrible I haven’t made it to the apperantly much better lightsaber parts yet.
Red Hot Tumble? It was only ported to the PSP. It has Dante & Trish, but the actual game is weird because it’s basically just mini missions and mini-games. It’s not like the original 2 with actual levels. I couldn’t really get into it.
I think there’s a Nintendo DS one as well but it’s even worse from what I hear. Poor VJ deserved better.
