Hmm, Im surprised their releasing digital versions of 3/4 by year’s end.
However, I’m going to fast till 2/11/20 and get all physical games in one fell swoop!
It would have been nice to have steelbooks for each game but oh well.

I’m never gonna fuckin catch up if they keep releasing all these Yakuza titles. I may just play Judgement & say F it
Best part about the yakuza series is that all of the released titles are bargain bin games now. So I can pick them up for cheap.
Edit: totally forgot that I had Yakuza Kiwami for “free” a few months ago from PS+
Yakuza 0 is on sale too for $12. Probably pick it up tomorrow when I get paid.

Don’t do that homie
All this means Is that you can now play through all of them chronologically at your leisure. (as of next Feb 11)
Plus it’s been 1 year since the last release of any game in the series
They need to keep up the momentum for newbies like me to the franchise. 2017 and 2018 had six month intervals between games so this wait was a little longer than I thought.

Personally I feel Yakuza is done and they will expand the Judgement IP instead
I think they can expand on the playable characters and fighting locations. I would be pretty excited about a game with Kazuma Kiryu, Taiga Saejima, Goro Majima, Shun Akiyama, and friends bringing the pain in cool new locations around the world like the mall from Police Story, cruise ship from City Hunter movie, train dining cart, etc. A Yakuza Vacation if you will.
I have no interest in Judgement intellectual property outside of the featured Virtua Fighter 5 Final Shodown arcade game. I prefer Westernized private eye adaptations with guns, crime, corruption, and rampant immorality, which make the Japanese takes seem tame by comparison.
The Yakuza remaster collection just went live on PSN. $59.99usd. So $20usd per port. That’s a really good price point.
I can’t get it right now. Way too much shit coming out that out prioritizes it. I definitely want to get it eventually tho.

They’re already working on Shin Yakuza, new protagonist and everything, so I don’t think they’re done

Nobody plays those KoFs because they’re not 98 or 2k2. And 2k2 actually looks like ass at times.

Sega has mentioned they no longer think of Yakuza as a Sony exclusive IP since it’s had such an unexpected and overwhelming success on PC. My guess is that the 345 collection is a timed exclusive. Shortly after 5 drops in February for PS4 is likely when Sega will announce when the PC version of the collection comes out.
Imo.

KoF '98 looks mediocre for SNK, but makes up for it in roster, gameplay, and balance improvements. A fair trade off given the technology of the time. Final Edition kind of bridges the gap in presentation to above average in my opinion.
KoF 2002 is Eolith junk. A cheap Korean knock off, that is not worth the physical media it is printed on. The only thing worse is Eolith’s KoF 2001 release. Though 97’s U.S.A. stage gives me nightmares with its soundtrack (not to mention the cheap red filter version known as Orochi version).
Did they confirm if it’s in new location as well? Running around same town for like 6 games in a row must be tiring as af

This reminds me that 97 still gets heavy play in China. So basically all the KoFs you’re trashing for being mediocre graphics wise, are the ones that people are still actively playing.

I’m not sure on that actually
I play KoF '98 Final Edition more than any 2D fighter, but I am not going to say it has a great presentation. I can overlook some presentation downgrades if the rest of the game makes up for it. However, KoF 2002 and '97 are messes in the gameplay department that are loved for their broken nonsense. No one plays 2001 and it is for good reasons.

When Nintendo Power and Gamepro ceased to exist, it was basically the end of an era for me. EGM is still being published? I heard it was getting some sort of a revamp this year but never followed up on that…
