while undertale was a refreshing and unique experience i feel like there were a few things that held it back from being an amazing game.
first, after all was said and done i couldn’t shake the feeling that a lot of the characters were just so catered to sjw’s.
secondly, some of the more powerful gameplay moments were just too heavily scripted, i found myself sighing a lot thinking "really? let me fucking do this."
could’ve been a little more difficult too.
the gameplay just didn’t feel like it complimented the story. they were both good, just lacking a sort of connection between the two.
the world felt barren and uninteresting to walk around in and “explore”(not to be confused with the story or characters).
best soundtrack of any other game this year? definitely hands down.
so far it’s been an underwhelming year for games imo where the only games i would give substantial praise to would be bloodborne and splatoon which i believe why undertale was able to make it so far up the line.
good game? sure
blown waaaay out of proportion? you bet your fucking ass it is.
What? How? I didnt really get that impression as opposed to some bullshit like Azure Striker where the blatantly crammed in a transgender boss and then forced those stupid plurals like “Xim, Xer, and Xem” to not offend people with proper gender labels.
Like what? Spoiler it though. I just dont think I understand the intent of the complaint.
There is a hard mode if you enter Frisk into the character name part, but it only goes until the end of the Toriel section. There isnt a definite answer to whether it will be actually finished or not, but the bullet hell sections are a bit more challenging and there are a few new enemies.
Honestly while I do like the game, objectively speaking it is largely held up by the soundtrack. Absolutely nothing about the game would be that memorable were it not for the tunes that are playing in the background. People dont really remember the fights(outside of a certain somebody on a Genocide run and maybe Muffet), but they remember how the music for that encounter made them feel at the point in time. Save The World on the final boss? Fucking atmospheric perfection for how that segment was done. Sure there are a bunch of funny little moments and clever writing, but you can’t send a game to the top of the charts on that alone. It just doesnt work like that. The OST was the saving grace here.
And like you said, part of it was how shit of a year this was for gaming in general. Sure we had a good one or two like Witcher 3 dropping. But look at this list and look at how many of the bigger names are straight up ports to newer consoles or PC
When you spend years waiting for Metal Gear Solid 5, and then it comes out and throws the entire series down the toilet, it’s not hard to be easily satsified by an indie game that actually has a fucking ending. Let alone 4 or 5 of them. Really the last few times I bought into Triple A hype I was massively let down. Watch Dogs? Shit. MGS5? Steaming turd with a delayed activation. Launch year Destiny? Horrible. Titanfall? Fun for a week or two and then incredibly boring.
You’re a stupid rand if you think MGS5 threw the series down the toilet.
Konami killed the series, not Kojima nor the product itself.
Like many people in the MG thread have been saying: MGS5 had a great beginning and end, but no middle.
If Konami wasn’t acting like a scumbag, then they would give Kojima and crew the time to finish MGSV. But nope, ther rushed everything to meet deadlines of exiting the game industry.
this is probably just me ,but it was just the characters and how they came off. [details=Spoiler]bisexual relationships, bi dating sections and just a few isms of the characters ,but again it’s probably just me. also the ambiguity of the main characters gender. just got an overall sjw vibe from this game.[/details]
[details=Spoiler]just the final bosses. like flowey and the final boss of the true pacifist ending. you really couldn’t fail during flowey unless you were playing with your eyes closed. the latter as far as i know you couldn’t fail because as soon as your hp ran out you either hit that check point or your heart would be put back together.

nothing really felt like a trial with the generous amounts of save points.
felt like the game was just in a hurry to get you through the story.
almost made the gameplay feel like an excuse to tell the story.
just a general lack of satisfaction ,but i saw the potential to be very satisfying.
a lot just felt like a missed opporutnity.
i didn’t realize there was a hard mode ,but i generally don’t go back to a game and play it over. first impressions mean a lot and i like to play the game as it was intended to the first time through which is usually the standard in forming my opinions. not revisiting on higher difficulties by choice. there’s a larger gray area for games that let you choose difficulty right at the beginning ,but generally i usually go with normal difficulty my first play through to see what constitutes “normal” to the developers and how they view the importance of difficulty or how prominent it should be.
but if i find the game fun enough i’ll go back and choose a higher difficulty. especially when it comes to games that require a higher learning curve.
You shouldn’t have to take a break if you don’t want too. They are the Gohan of video game companies. Everybody only like’im cuz he beat Cell…20 years ago. Capcom used to be the MVP…20 years ago. They are like Kobe, if he wasn’t retirin’ and decided to play for 15 more years.
But it really did. MGS5 was supposed to be the swan song. The final game to end it all with a bang. Instead it ended on the shittiest note possible. There wasn’t even an end. Just a two minute cutscene that better explained the original Metal Gear. The ending to MGS5 itself though? It doesnt exist. Merely a cliffhanger to a chapter we’ll never get to play. There are so many loose ends that never got resolved in that game.
And yeah no shit Konami botched the whole fucking thing. That goes without saying. Everybody knows that given the opportunity Kojima wouldnt have left the game like it is currently.
I stand with you with P* games. I love Vanquish like crazy. I bought the game when it first came out. 60 bucks for a 5 hour game and I never regretted that decision. As much as people praise Bayonetta, the only thing I give it over DMC is that the enemies fight back but I rather play Vergil any day of the week. MGR R was something. At first it was an extremely exciting game like a good action flick. I have fond memories of overpowering MG Ray and slicing it up. I remember running up the road as it collapsed, and so on. But after that, the thrill was gone. I have both DmC and MGR R and I have more hours on DmC. There is practically no strategy behind the Zandatsu. Like how in NG players care to learn about delimbing enemies. I enjoyed Anarchy Reigns. Fun characters and such. Like the combos. But it was like a fun short ride. After I cleared White side/Leo’s story, I couldn’t tolerate clearing Black Side/Jack’s story.
The only P* game I’ll ever go back to and get better at is Vanquish. I just wish you could play as your rival.
My top 5:
Duck Game
Bro Force
Adventures of Pip
Chroma Squad
Guacamele Super Turbo
Duck game and Broforce are some of the most fun couch co-op I have had in a long time. Duck Game has pretty good netcode, so it’s even fun to play online. It’s Super Mario 3 vs mode with guns.
I just got the game last friday but I have had fun with it. I think the customization options make for a really fun game. If you follow the director’s instructions it makes the game more challenging. This was a kickstarter game made by an indie, so it does have a few bugs, but nothing that I found game breaking. Since the premise of this game is based on you having a successful show, there is quite a bit of micromanaging you have to do to keep the show successful, keep the audience interested, and things of that nature. I think it is worth the steam sale price, but if you were expecting a pure FFT experience then I could see how someone might not like the game.
Honorable mention to Project Mirai, this list only exist because I didnt buy much shit in 2015, well i bought a fair share but not everything i put enough time into to form a solid opinion. Theres other games I have as top 5 I’ve played this year but they didnt release this year
Also Gamestop is having a buy 1 get one half off on select 3ds games. Very tiny selection but here’s a direct link to the shit that’s part of the promotion
Ok yeah, Nuclear Throne really is the modern Battletoads Bullshit™. There is no beating “Lil’ Hunter”. You can’t unless you have a LOT of luck on your side with how and where certain things spawn, that’s really just about all there is to it…and if you’re playing with any character other than Robot [since he gets the best weapons way before everyone else] then forget it.
Not sure if it’s been posted but Level-5 is set to announce the sequel to a “popular series” next year, alot of people are speculating on Dark Cloud 3. Man
