Got out of class and played some more Battlefront, maxed out my character and unlocked a few more items to get more a feel for the game.

Visually the game isn’t bad, I do not think it is the magnificent specimen some have tried to make it out to be but it doesn’t look bad. The environments certainly look good but character models are a bit meh. Vehicles look okay in game and the game does run well. The fact that a DICE beta actually runs in a step up. Gameplay wise the game is still kind of meh, there are 2 game modes available right now which basically consist of collect a point and defend it and a Rush mode where vehicles and powerups are more present.

The first game mode is 8v8 and is okay, it is pretty casual and not much depth to it. Just run around capture a point and defend that point. The second game mode is a bit more fun to play, larger maps, more strategy, turrets, tie fighters, AT AT(AT AT are pretty fun to kill people in). However everything just feels kind of like a severely dumbed down BF game. There is no sense of epicness, you really do not feel apart of the Star Wars Galaxy. Everything feels shallow and generic, the shooting works well enough and the movement is okay but it just does not have any depth to it or immersion. Granted this is just a beta and a small portion of the game but there would have to be a ton of improvement as is, it isn’t bad there is some enjoyment to be had in small doses but it does get old very quickly.

I am not even talking about the gray out features, I saying in general the depth of the new Battlefronts game has been watered down. Even the PSP game has more features than this
Something new? Whats there whats new? All this game got is a shiny coat of paint and EA’s brand on top this time around.

I’m definitely enjoying the Battlefront beta right now, don’t really understand the hate.

I never played previous Battlefront games and I’ve gone into this with 0 expectations, so to me its more of a completely new shooter + Battlefield elements thanks to DICE.

Movement is definitely Battlefield inspired which is fine with me, I was never a major Battlefield player but I did put a bit of time into Battlefield 3 when it was free on the PS store that one time so it didn’t take long to get used to.

Spent quite a bit of time on the first mode “Drop Zone” I think it’s called, simple but fun objective mode. I was with my friend who’s pretty competent at shooters, a couple games in and we were basically dominating matches, and this was before I unlocked any Star Cards, I definitely don’t think you’re at a disadvantage if you haven’t unlocked anything, but ranking up and earning money for unlocks seemed pretty simple.

I like the idea of Walker Assault, the massive 20v20 mode,it’s pretty chaotic but I’m getting the sense of a full scale war with specific objectives on each side. Seems to take a fair bit of skill to take out the AT-ATs with the Snowspeeder’s Tow Cables I failed 2 attempts. The vehicles in general have a learning curve, you definitely can’t jump in a Tie Fighter and fuck shit up straight away, but I like it that way. It’s also day 1 of the beta so everything feels mad scrubby.

I’ve also never really cared for Star Wars as a series maybe that plays into why I can enjoy this pretty easily.

Yeah I played a bit of the OLD series on the PS2 and the PSP ports they had.
Going with zero expectations the game isn’t bad, going in and played the old PS2 and PSP titles the game a little bit lacking, like taking a step backwards.
Its like how THPS 5 as all the depth and features of the original Tony Hawk games but with pretty graphics (not mentioning THPS5 bugs).

Im with sonicbusta. P* games are way overrated. I mean Bayonetta was good for the first half then it just got boring as fuck. It got even boring earlier in part 2. Same thing with Wonderful 101.

Now Im not saying what they make is shit, im just saying its overrated. I enjoyed them all for a few hours. Well, designed and all that but it got all went too fast.

Scrub^ :nunchuck:

Now that I’m playing Assault on Hoth I’m having WAAAY more fun now. I guess because it’s a bigger map and it feels like there’s chaos going on all around.

Edit: Quickest moment of fear is turning around after turning off an uplink and Luke Mofucking Skywalker is mere 10 feet to my right. I didnt even get a chance to fire a shot. ENTIRE PLATOON I was with wiped out in moments. That’s ok…cause we rolled in deep with Vader won. Yeah…having WAY more fun with this mode.

P* need to make a not-Bomberman.

Spider-Man.

Free fucking money all day.

I finished Jotun and I’m not impressed at all, looking at steam reviews you would think it’s the second coming but whatever I wish I’d have played what they did.

Review will contain spoilers, though there’s not much to spoil tbh.

[details=Spoiler] So all you hear about is how beautiful and well animated this game is and all it’s done is now made me dubious of future indie titles that tout this sort of marketing. Now there are some wonderful animations here but there’s also some very mediocre ones too. I know how hard sprite animations are as I’ve recently started myself (I’m going to be the next Phil Fish buy my gaems :bee: ) so I can understand why some may look wonky or whatever but if this is your selling point then they NEED to be perfect. For example check out the first boss, the plant giant thing, and then compare the great animations of that to the second boss’ walk cycle. The graphics to the levels are also something that are inconsistent, aesthetically there ok I guess, fairly bland, but the geometry is really bad. Buildings end up looking sloped where they shouldn’t, some of the bridges are just bad.

The character can move 8 ways, you have a two hit combo, a charge attack and a dodge roll. You can also get some spells from statues of Gods you find in the levels. You get a self heal, a damage boost, extra speed, a protect spell and a decoy. They don’t really add much depth to the very shallow combat, I found myself using the speed boost + damage boost and just doing my charge attack over and over until I needed to either dodge the telegraphed attacks or reapply my buffs. There’s also a slight delay for attacks/rolls so during the final boss you can attack these homing spears but timing is so weird, just eh bland.

Before each boss you have to find a statue with a rune on it, they’re large enough, and barring the first boss which only had 1 area you have to locate 2 runes in 2 separate maps. You have green map, slidey blue ice map, windy blue ice map, clouds, falling rock caverns map and I’ve forgotten the others. Oh a dwarf village. They’re pretty much loose mazes with maybe a puzzle like hit these electric nodes so it resembles this constellation and such, nothing really fancy or stand out. Once you’ve found the rune rather than back track you can just pause the game and return to hub which is nice. Oh yeah forgot to mention besides the dwarf village and bosses there are no other enemies.

So now you have the 2 runes the boss door opens! YAY finally some meat to go with my potato. First boss is the giant plant lady thing, they have names I just can’t remember them and don’t care just make up something that might sound Norse like Jyllhanhynamir. The first boss has has really pretty animations though I can’t help but feel it needs some outline work, the “pencil” scribbles/outlines make it look like a WiP. She has the left to right floor pound which you dodge left or right accordingly, a large poison aoe which you run away from and cure with some blue flowers that are at the edge of the arena. At around 65% health she spawns some wiggly thorn tentacles you kill if they’re in the way and at around 40% she spawns some roots that limit your dodging but you can make them retract by hitting them with a charge attack. Not a bad first boss in all honesty.

Second boss is some tall chick that walks around awkwardly, spawns a shitload of dwarves and throws a shield. At 40% some pillars appear around the arena that if you or the boss breaks then some rocks fall. That’s it. It was wank.

Third boss is a blue ice giant, does a charge attack, a ground smash and some icey blowing. Nothing really to note other than the big mechanic being that the floor gets slidey at around 50% and some blizzard happens which makes it hard to see. Some ok animations but another shit boss.

Fourth boss gave me a bit of trouble until I realised the main mechanic. So it’s some big lightning chick that floats around and she either fires a bolt of lightning at you which is easy to dodge or makes lightning that comes from the sky which is more annoying to dodge. There are 4 lightning rods at the edges of the arena that has lightning sort of “walking” out of them that you also have to dodge but if all 4 are lit the boss gets shocked herself and she’s stunned for a short time. At about 55% she splits so she now has a clone which makes it a little tougher. Better than Shieldy McGoo and Blue Man but not a great boss.

Holy fuck it’s the Ken Masters of the game, IT’S RED FIRE GIANT. Other than a colour swap he has a bubbly lava beard. 10/10. This is by far the best boss in the game both animations and mechanics wise. Overhead sword strike, a leaping stab and a circular ground strike where he sticks his sword and makes a circle around him that cracks the floor and the cracks in the floor are all lavaery(lavary?)… fiery. The lower the health the bigger the cracks in the floor and stuff. It was a pretty good boss.

Final boss, BAH GAWD ITS ODIN. He throws homing spears that are annoying to dodge, later he summons older bosses that do their greatest hits. Wank boss

Story is there :i_dunno: , I only remember one song which was quite good(boss 4 if you’re wondering) and err yeah that’s that. Bland as fuck, shallow combat that’s made worse by shit bosses which are the main focus of the game, inconsistent animations and graphics which again were a focal point. I wish I could like this game but I can’t. Play it for free if you can and decide on whether you want to give money for this later. As someone who is wanting to get into indie game dev as a one man wonder this game has taught me a bunch to be honest. This is a prime example of graphics over gameplay in my opinion and because of that it’s a dull and rather boring game I don’t think it would be fair to give this game a lower than 5/10 but I can’t give it any higher. Sorry for shitty grammar. Give me money. [/details]

THE BATTLE ON HOTH IS SO FUCKIGN COOL OMG.

I should get BFront 2 on steam.

I can’t wait for star wars in december.

Walker Assault is so sick, it’s actually getting better the more I play it… You just need a jump pack to make traversing not feel like a bitch

If you get Battlefront 2 on Steam, you’ll wanna make sure you download Game Ranger so you can actually play online. They took over the MP part since Gamespy went down.
