After Pokemon get banned to Ubers, yeah, but before that, not really. Even if you just had one playable group and one banlist, you’d still see people eventually selecting out of a small subset of the same Pokemon, because some of them are undeniably stronger than others. So now your shitty Pokemon has to compete against the best of the best in every match. And since it will get stomped in every match, you might as well not use it.
Of course, this is just talking Singles. Doubles is a lot more freeform, and what people should be moving to anyway because it’s a bit less dumb.

Small glimmer of hope still that this can be as fun as I saw it could be but the reports about inconsistent framerate have me a bit worried especially since the game is releasing next month in japan. Don’t really care about a few ‘cars that look like they were from N64’ so long as the gameplay is intact and good.
