I finished ocarina of time but never played MM, I don’t know why I didn’t find anything interesting or ground breaking in OOT. I didn’t like how the dungeons were played in 3D, kind of hate how the 3D make things less visible vs top view.
Zelda’s a game about collecting plot coupons. Collect three shits to get the Master Sword, collect seven more shits to beat the game. Puzzles aren’t particularly thought-provoking; just find the part that interacts with the new item you got in the dungeon and you win. It’s all so tedious.
I wish someone would do a sequelitis type vid about game mechanics and design aspects of games that are within the same genre and compare the pros and cons of them and how they effect the overall game. Like for example lets compare say the short yet auto regenerative health mechanics in games like COD to the larger yet non health regen mechanics of games like Borderlands and Team Fortress and see how each effects how people approach the game and play. IMO I think games like Team Fortress with the larger health are a lil more forgiving and promote a more aggressive game because players have more room for error, thus are willing to take more risk. Where as in games like COD with such limited health, there’s little room for error. Even so much as a poorly timed reload can get you killed. So this promotes a more defensive game. Especially with how you can regenerate health by just hiding and not receiving damage for an extended period of time.
These are just my opinions. Maybe I’m off base with my opinions. But it’d be cool if someone more knowledgeable in game design where to do something like this.
Well, right away these come to mind for me— Actraiser, Kingdoms of Amalur, Bayonetta, Viewtiful Joe, Soul Sacrifice Delta… and of course it’s tough to narrow things down to 5. I’m also thinking of Phantasy Star Online episode 1 & 2 (I’ve played PSO on 3 systems, for probably several thousands of hours) Dragon’s Dogma, Dragon’s Crown, Skyrim, Phantasy Star Portable 2:Infinity (the definitive Phantasy Star experience, imo) Unreal Championship 2 and some other things…sheeeit, then there’s my beloved Prototype and Gears of War 3…
Looking back…as things get more technologically advanced, it’s almost not even fair to compare most old-era stuff to things from the more recent generations.
Random good old memories
Phantasy Star Universe-- playing online with a full party of 6…most of us “beast” characters…and we all transformed while fighting the boss “De Ragan”…Dragon got his ass wore the hell OUT when we all went beast mode.
Gears of War 3 – finishing Horde mode for the first time…such good times…
Also-- Marcus shanks the hell out of the Queen: “YEAH. FEEL THAT? That’s for Dom…and everyone else you killed, you bitch.” Hell yeah man, that shit was DELICIOUS.
Skyrim – killing my first innocent; one of the first things I did in the game, actually. It’s that dude that lives on the outskirts of town…and since he lives alone, there was no witnesses so I got away with it. Also…I ran into some vampires shortly after that and purposely got infected of course.
Viewtiful Joe - getting all rainbow V-ranks. If that game were released in the Achievement-era, I would probably have all the achievements on it.
Soul Sacrifice Delta --a certain person the main character was with made the mistake striking the magical chalice— Main Character: "…I have no words to describe what appeared before us then… God…"
Video games, man… this form of entertainment has and continues to be one hell of a ride.
