Monster Hunter has the coolest motherfucking plot ever but the games look so fucking boring.
They need to turn it into an actionRPG and let Platinum piss on it a bit.

Because I believe Sega, who owns the IP didn’t want to fund a Plat games for the sequel, the game couldn’t be made. So basically Nintendo was like yo you can make this game, we’ll pay for it, just make it exclusive to us. This goes back to Plat games having a good relationship with Nintendo and Kamiya is cool with Nintendo himself. So yeah
I remember hearing Bayo broke 1.5 million copies during it’s second year to market. While not great in any sense of the word, it’s still their best selling title. Part of the problem is that Platinum needs to learn to advertise properly. In both quantity and quality.
If you werent a fan of the Metal Gear series, and you dont go to many sites that run Video Game ads, would you ever have heard of Metal Gear Rising? Anarchy Reigns speaks for itself. I didnt know that shit existed until a year after it launched. I also remember seeing a Bayonetta commercial on TV when I was maybe 12 and thought it looked corny as hell. I was laying there on the couch like “She shoots guns with her feet? How does that even make sense?”

If a game is said to do badly by a company it probably means that the cost to develop wasn’t covered by the total sells. Bayonetta doesn’t look like a cheap game to make, but I ahve no insight on that. It just fells like people forget that these shits cost money to make.
As far as marketing Platinum are strictly game developers AFAIK (unlike dev/publisher hybrids like Atlus), it’s on the Publisher to step the fuck up and do some marketing since they’ve already invested in publishing the game.

how is 2 million not good?
500k x 7.99 in albums is good…how is 2 million x 50 bucks not good?
What is the average salary of a designer at somewhere like Capcom? Because 40-60k sounds reasonable on the low end…do these guys THINK that they should make more money and in turn think low sales ie: “2 million” are bad?
Is not like it sold badly, but that everyone seems to think that not getting cod levels sales is automatically a flop.
The game did quite well for a new IP, like around 1million, and this is considering the fact that the game could be considered very niche specially with all the “sexyness” to say it in a way.
Didn’t capcom said that RE6 underperformed (like in a huge dissapointment) despite selling like around 6 million?
Bayonetta actually got a lot of marketing in Japan.
Note that Bayonetta did drop in price, and that did help sales. I’m pretty positive I got mine for like $20.
I mean you can look at the hooplah about kickstarters like Skullgirls and MNo 9 to see that most people have no clue how much money and hours goes into the games they’re paying for, even when it’s broken down to them. I hate to link Kotaku, but like orochi says sometimes dumb people/places can have great insight on shit.
Thats my thing. Theres no legal way to make this info public knowledge so we have to listen to companies make up good/bad figures on games.

If an artist like Jay Z album does 50k then you know its a failure. Its a commercial tank. Anything less than 500K when you are well known is considered bad. And super popular artists like Madonna for instance…1million for Madonna is considered a failure.

Moster Hunter looks mildly uninteresting though. I think I watched gameplay of the one from WiiU and I was just like “Meh”. I only played a Montster Hunter back on PS2 and had no clue what I was doing. I was shitty at cooking.
That’s how I felt the first time I played it… Thought it was boring as shit. Then, a couple years later, I thought to myself, “what was that game my friend had on his PSP? I’m gonna give it another shot.” Went to the store, bought MHFU, beat my first boss, got hooked.
