VF4Evo thread

yeah i dont play any other fighting games other than 3s so i want something to play when i wanna play something else than 3s.

Hey Dred! Glad to see ya wanting to learn VF. I’ll be at CF today and hope to see ya. Of the people mentioned, you prolly know Konjou(Rodney). He plays 3s as well, he has a very good Sean, but that is not his best character of course.:wink: Those guys hardly ever show up at CF anymore I’m afraid.

Dandy J(cyngus) has some good tips. I used to play Jeff a lot in the earlier games but I play him seldomly in VF4/Evo. I can show you some other stuff as well. I do have some questions/doubts about Jeffry I’d like to clear up.

About b+k. Are you sure the single attack is throw counterable? I know the punch followup is if blocked/ducked. And I though the combo was b+k,p d+kg. I’ll test it today.

For the combo ender, I would always go for ff pp. b/df pp is hard to connect and I dont think it works on the heavier characters.

Also, the knee, p(g), kkp combo I think only works on lightweights as well but I can’t say honestly for sure.:confused: I add a (g) after the first punch to make sure I don’t go into the pk string.

Yeah you’re right, b+K is not throw counterable.

Anyone know anything about Goh?

Shoulder ram beats crouching P’s. Neutral K is an awesome poke, on counterhit you can combo another one.

Um…watch lots and lots of Arashi vids. He is basically the only top Goh player.

Total scrub question coming up. Have you guys played through the “tasks” training mode (the “advanced” one) where you have to block mix-ups or escape throws or what have you. I forgot the name off hand. Anyway, one task if for you to intentionally eat Akira’s PK chain, then either block FC 46P, 3P+K, or duck a throw. I have yet to duck a throw after eating PK. I’ve went into free training, set Akira to PK then immediatly throw, and I can’t crouch it. What am I doing wrong here?

This one is EXTREMELY tough. Don’t feel bad, the previous fuzzy guard excercise is hard as hell too. In fact, I haven’t completed it yet. Took me forever to do the first one.:frowning: I haven’t trained in months at home. I’m sure I could do it if I had the free time again.

In the first one, you block Akira’s P. You’re at a small disadvantge, so you have time to duck normally(and have a 4-5 frame time period to duck and guard the byakko:bluu: ).

In the second session, you get hit by Akira’s PK putting you in a major disadvantage. You can’t duck normally. You have to buffer a crouch dash to make you duck faster than normal. (and still fuzzy guard to block a byakko:mad: ). The training guide tells you this before you start the session.

One BIG plus to do these excercises is to stand in open stance when Akira attacks. It makes it harder for him to throw you.

To be specific, the type of fuzzy guard required in this exercise is ONLY useful when you are at exactly a 2-frame disadvantage (most characters’ PK’s cause this on hit). If you are at -1 or better you can just crouch under the throw, and if you are at -3 or worse you will be thrown out of crouch dash.

And where could I see these vids?

The game has quite a few replays on its own. Just go to replays and select from the DVD-ROM. Arashi is featured in the vids as well as some other guy.

You can also try this link, it lists vids for each character in appearance, Goh vids are in the middle of the first page. Be sure to thank maddy for his hard work putting up the links.

Actually, Arashi is the only Goh player featured on those replays, they changed his name to “demihuman” for some cracktarded reason.

They did this to a lot of people, for everyone’s convenience here are the real tournament names of the players featured on the disc. Changed name is on the left, real name is on the right, anybody not mentioned didn’t have his name changed.

demihuman = Arashi (or Game Center Arashi)
HanabiRei = Hanabi Lei
Dippy = Magnum
HomestayA = Homestay Akira
Segirl = Segaru
Sorry Shun = Itabashi Zangief
Mask du HT = Mask do Hijitetsu (he quit Brad BTW, plays Jacky now)
Yo-ro = Yoro (or Yoro Kage)
Professor = Hakushon Lau
Turbo Pai = Tsuchikumo
freeloader = Haijin
Guerilla/Gorilla (I forget what he’s called but it’s not exactly right) = The Guerilla (he dropped Aoi for Lau sometime last year I think)

Almost everybody I didn’t mention has their proper name. The only one I’m not sure about is BlackWidow…is there actually somebody with that name, or is it a pseudonym for Anii or YOU?

whos the hot chick playing lau in the another beattribe vid of vf4 evo? i want to get her pregnant.

Thanks for the listing Josh, I only knew of the more obvious ones.

As for Dred, I haven’t seen any of the beat tribe vids. Are you talking about footage of the last Beat Tribe tourney that happened a few weeks ago? Anyway, there are quite a few accomplished distaff players in Japan. I hear there was an all girl team at Beat Tribe this year.

Funny story, Nelson told me he lost repeatedly to this 15 yr female Pai player on his trip to Japan a couple of years ago.:eek: BTW, he just won a 32 man tourney in Boston over the past weekend.

“rise from your grave” where’s a good place to get vids from VF4 Evolution. i went to virtuafighter.com but all the vids seems to be broked. also, where is the best place for a new player to get info? how about a starting character? any suggestions.

virtuafighter.com is your best source for info.

I suggest all beginners go through training->trial->tutorial to get an undertanding of the game and then go to training->trial->tactics advice to learn basic attack patterns and B&B combo for their characters. And of course go to training->command to check out your move list.

Here are some pages I found that have VF4:FT vids that are still active.
