I don’t like 3s and I imagine most people don’t like 3s because it is boring. When c.mk super is apparently your selling point, its obvious it isn’t fun. There are no links in 3s and no fancy combos except yun hence why i don’t have any fun.

Not trying to be a jerk, why is everyone on ruin-'s nuts or making him out to be the bad guy? Didn’t Josh win like the last 3 SF4 tournies? And he dosen’t really whore out the very top character either. IMO, Naturally, Josh is our best player.

regularly going to tournies doesn’t mean you go every week (lol i don’t think anyone here has been to every tourney). but if you go like twice a month, and especially by vegas standards, i think you’re qualified as a tourney regular.

A few things I want to comment on…
RE: talent - yes, I do believe that a few people have the aptitude and skill to play these games. Problem is that even fewer have the heart or drive to follow up on it and get up after they get dropped. It typically goes like this:
- new donk finds out about and likes a certain new game, decides to learn it and play his buddies.
- gets better than his buddies and gets introduced, by whatever means, to a new world of others that play the same game
- new donk gets shitted on. This is inevitable, there’s nothing you can do up to this point simply because you don’t have the experience to fight the unfamiliar.
Player has two options now:
A. get back up motivated and play more and harder, treating this as a learning experience.
B. quit and move on to the next new thing.
The problem with the fighting game community as a whole in most towns is the lack of people that are motivated to take option A. This is completely dependent on the character of the player in question, there is nothing anyone from the outside can do about it. Just like in sports or any other facet of competitive life, you either want it or you don’t. That’s what it all boils down to.
Everyone that had been mentioned in this thread as a non-scrub has had that kind of motivation at one point in their experience of playing fighting games, or still has it now. At some point, they spent way too much time and effort to get really good at something, which is exactly what it takes to get to that level. Getting good at Street Fighter in general takes A LONG TIME and a lot of practice, there is really no shortcut to this. The only two people that still have it are Josh and ruin. They don’t care how good or shitty the current game is, they will learn and win regardless because they still want it. Peter has it too, but he’s gone from Vegas now. There is a group of us that got good at other games before and either simply don’t like the new stuff, can’t devote themselves to keep up on the new trash, or other reasons why they are not still on it. This group includes guys like me, Kalama, Wes, Kenny, and maybe a few more that I’m missing off the top of my head. There are a few more peeps beyond that that are somewhat new to the scene and are still making an effort to get good, but that’s where it ends. We are now back to exactly where we were prior to SF4, which is what I expected. One game won’t change people’s will to WANT to put in effort. All we get from new games is an opportunity to maybe have a few more peeps exposed to the scene that are strong enough mentally to put in some work and stick around. And that is all I can expect from any new game that comes out. I’m thankful for SF4 for at least that, regardless of how I feel about the game itself.
OK that was my nice way of saying niggas don’t want it. I’ll leave the non-PC stuff to the others…
xcfrisco: I am totally open to having HDR tourneys or other stuff at my house. All you have to do is show up and ask me. Problem is you haven’t been over yet and the demand isn’t there for it from the peeps that do come through. I say this because I don’t think we have even had HDR going even once on my TV. I’m looking at next weekend for another get together but I’ll post up when plans finalize. Try to come through next time and we’ll get it going.

been reading some of the past threads and i am glad we started a discussion about the vegas scene and try to preserve it one way or another. i am sure there is alot of untapped potential in such a big city like vegas. im sure nobody wants it to die out but the question is how can we keep the flame on burning?
personally, i never been to go because its not out there. i have little knowledge of what times you guys start at, its exact location, the setting there, the people etc. i’ve also mention i was gonna go to GO couple of weeks ago but i had a cut on my finger which i felt hinder my play. i barely got my stitches removed yesterday. i feel that no one has put the hours in sf4 in i have (post-arcade). i feel im at the top of my game as far as online. but how some of you mention online can only get you so far. the only way to level up now is the tournament scene.
i know sf4 is a noob game compared to other fighters but its important to remember what other game draws 1000s of people in a single tournament? yes i think its good to play other games but to kick sf4 out the lineup is ridiculous. its capcoms newest game, easiest to follow, and easiest for noobs to play. i almost quit practicing sf4 because of all the shenagains that are in the game and thought to myself why practice a game with little skill required. after trying to get into other games i came back to sf4 because of all the hype still surrounding it. no present game will reach sf4 status is in today
