Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I landed two auto-correct U2’s against a Juri tonight back to back.

Poor bitch.

Vega’s comeback potential is just so much better!

Wake Up Options: Crouch Block, Stand Block, Triple Kicks, ST/EX ST, Splendid Claw, OS Throwbreak. c.LP is situationally alright. Claw has no normals/specials faster than four frames, no normals/specials that have reliable startup invincibility with an attack component. Blocking is your best plan of action. Against Ryu, you’re going to have to wait until he pushes himself out a bit. He’ll generally try to end his little string with plasma or a level 2 focus pressure reset; you can U2 and possibly EX ST through the fireball, and U2 / trip kicks / neutral jump / possibly s.RH (range dependent) the focus. Up close normals to use are s.LK, c.LP/MP, s.MK, even s.RH. s.RH actually starts up faster than s.MK (close MK is 6, far is 8; s.RH is just 4!) and pushes back nicely, but s.RH isn’t great on block and really not great on whiff.

I want to hear how you guys approach the Rufus (Divekickers in general) fight; both in pressure and neutral game. Is s.LK the normal we’re looking for?

S.lk is one of those really iffy normals that beat out divekicks, kind of how st.lp beats a high dive kick. Its usually the j.fierce, or whichever his max range air punch is that starts the divekick issues, seeing as though straight dive kicks can lose to st.lp or st.rh. When the strings starts, just block. Then block some more. Once u are in the corner, u’ll likely have to guess if he is doin dive kick pressure, and hopefully he will try to put a throw in there so that gives u a chance to tech and build some space. messiah on block can be back dashed after the spin and CH into wateva, and i think the follow up sweep from messiah beats EX ST so backdash is usually the way to go. Neutral jumps are pretty good in this match to try to counter the dive kick set ups. As with most range battles, Claw has the tools win with solid footsies, but once the dive kick show starts, blocking/guessing is really the only option ive seen.

But as always, the usual suspects are what you wanna use: st. rh and st. jab to punish bad dive kicks, st. mk and cr.mp for pokes, and neutral jumps to deal with jump ins. If anyone knows how to punish GT if it can be, that would help me out alot

Isn’t Vega’s wall dive controllable (i.e. - you can choose which wall he jumps from)? I’m using a controller and for the life of me I cannot get that shit out consistently. I either do the Cosmic heel, jump against the wrong wall, or just straight kick into mid-air. I can’t even get most of his combos to work b/c I will get the right timing and then jump to the opposite wall like a retard.

This is what is really keeping me from enjoying Vega as my main…

Was Vega’s crouching jab > crouching strong link made easier in SSF4 or something?

Yeah seems like it.

@Ranger

Did you spend any time in training to figure it out yourself?
Anyway you control the walldive by either using upforward or upbackward to do the walldive, not just up (wich defaults to wall in your back).
When doing the forward walldive it is wise to hold upforward for a little while after the kick button as it might still default to the backwall if u don’t.

This is the same for walldive, sky high claw, Super and Ultra 1

Also note that only the EX version and ultra1 hits people on the way up with the forward dive.

Happy diving!

^^^ I was trying and trying in training but it seems to come out too inconsistently. Sometimes with the controller it seems that no matter which way I direct it, it will automatically default to going to the back wall. If I try to compensate by pushing more forward while going up, he will do the cosmic heel instead. Do you have to go back to neutral before pusing u/f or can you just slam it? There must be a small piece that I am missing b/c I don’t have any problems with other charge characters but trying to make Vega go to the correct wall is frustrating as H***

cosmic heel? are you sure? cosmic heel is downforward rh… if you get the cosmic heel your really doing something wrong! if you mean scarlet terror , then your probably hitting the kick button to early so it registers forward+kick instead of upforward+kick.

if u have that much issue with it… try to do it like guiles flashkick and then quickly move the direction to upforward… he should still move forward then.

Not going by sprites and going by official artwork released over the years, Vega uses his claw on his left arm.

Anyone else been using U1 instead of 2 lately? I decide I should try to get better instead of just using U2 as a reversal when people put pressure on me. U1 has actually been working out pretty nicely. It is great for punishing whiffed pokes and crossups. It has been a better anti air since it lets me attack people before they hit the ground. U2 is kinda risky sometimes since if you do it too late, even when they perform a jump attack, they still have time to block and too early has you slide under them. U1 seems to work very well on crossup attempts since it gets you out of the way really quick and still comes back in time to get them on their way down. Yeah the whole trade thing sucks, but it seems to ONLY trade if you do it when the person is already in the air like right above you. If they are not above you yet, just got your wall instead of theirs. I’d rather trade U1 for some damage and safe positioning instead of getting U2 blocked and punished. I just feel like I have more uses for U1 sometimes since I can use it as Anti Fireball, Anti air, and offensively. U2 is def better for people who just constantly attack and jump at you, but U1 seems to be more fun to pull of on people who try to run away or think they are safe at full screen and do dumb shit.

New Vega Updates… THE PAIN OF THE ULTRA./

First of all want to share my happinest to all the vega users and fans… by saying that on this street fighter the new vega its way much better than the past game…

1.- The Jhp/sHp/cmp and FB EX combo its now makeable to all characters (after a long testing… and yes including ryu/ken)

2.- You guys can now combo cmk to rolling crystal as simple as that.

3.- You can now even combo Jhp/Shp/Clp/Cmp and FB EX as well.

4.- The new Bloody HIght Claw Ultra its way much better than the past one… since its a two… you can get hit by his knew when hi flyes towars the opponent or when he comes back from the corner.

5.- And FINALLY i manage to combo de Updated Bloody HIght Claw with a Jhp or Jhp… SO YES YOU NOW CAN COMBO THE ULTRA GUYS…:looney:

FROM A HUMBLE USER AND FAN OF VEGA...

Just started using vega and had a question: how do you get a 2 hit wall dive?

Whats up fellow vega players

For the 2 hit FBA, you want to use the EX Barcelona and when you’re close to your opponent hit a punch button without a directional input.

Do you also have to be above/behind them? I was fooling around with this in training and if I just let the Barcelona do it’s thing (no directional inputs at all), he would do the one hit version. Or is the distance just such that it puts you nearly above them?

2 hit EX FBA: Keep your stick on neutral (dont input any directions) and hold any punch button when Vega is right above their heads.

-whoops-

It is distance specific, usually you want to be fairly close to them and you’d want to be directly over them. Also if you do it too low to the ground, Vega will just land without giving both hits.

hey sorry if this has been asked , but how do you guys deal with juri’s crouching fierce vs walldives? if i throw out the claw attack soon enough will it at least trade, or do i just not use it vs her?
