Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

So you mean LP + KKK? Can’t say I’ve ever tried that, backflips are pretty risky. You’d probably be better off just backdashing, that usually avoids the throw and has less recovery time.

What should I use to punish whiffed DPs without meter?

df hk -> scarlet terror or cr.mk -> scarlet terror

I’ve never tried it, but it sounds risky because if they know how to punish your backflips you just set yourself up for losing a lot of life. I’d say just option select throw tech is “safer” so to speak.

Ah, I see. I didn’t even think about OS throw, just because of how useless it is in SF4

Well, KKK flip is really unsafe, even compared to PPP flip, just because it leaves you so close to them, so if you’re going to option select backflip, I’d say go with PPP flip. And OS throw tech is actually okay, but it does drive me crazy sometimes, especially when I press the lp+lk and I still get thrown.

Personally, I couldn’t play claw with anything but a stick.

But, I used to play a LOT of VF4 evo and VF5 on stick.

Occasionally, I do get the odd ST instead of a FBA, but only about 5% of the time. What I find it gains is a better zoning game and more responsive dashes.

Apologies if this has already been answered here or elsewhere.

In Japan, I saw Makoto do this SICK setup where, on a downed opponent (in this case, Sagat), he charges up a FA at a range where FA would hit, and Tiger Uppercut would whiff. Then, as the Sagat back-dashed on wake up, he canceled the FA into backwards dash, and IMMEDIATELY after the backdash, he Ultra’ed to catch Sagat in his backdash recovery. (Which is pretty long as compared to others)

Question is…how the heck does this guy maintain, or obtain, the charge to ultra so quickly? I asked him then but…I couldn’t understand his explanation.

I believe he charges during the FA.

What’s the input required to maintain the down/back charge considering you need to release it when you backdash?

I would imagine it to be:

FA (hold) + db -> b, b -> db, df, db, b, ub/uf + 3K

(Theoretically) If you are fast enough the game will hold the charge of the first db so after the FADC you should be able to just input the rest of the command and it should come out (correct me if I’m wrong).

The only way I’ve been able to connect with the Ultra after a FA is if the FA connects and the opponent enters his/her “crumple” animation. You would have to be quite fast to Ultra after a cancelled FA.

Edit: Looking at it now, I’m not even sure you would need to do the second db command (after the backdash).

Wow, what a fucking setup!

Hot damn! Thanks a bunch guys. =)

Do any of you guys use BHC to punished whiffed HP or RH from full sreen away. It seems like it wont work, but its a reaction thing. Its still hasn’t failed me, but there are risks.

Is there a Video that shows the exact input of FA (Dash) -> Ultra?
I’m having trouble in executing it.

What do you guys do against a Sagat that traps you in the corner with blockstrings that end in lk knees and repeats the blockstrings after each knee?

I tried going for a grab after the knee but ended up eating another string ending into the knee.

I second this. I’m not even sure how I would go about doing a FADC -> BHC on a pad.

this was from another thread, it was posted by bebop3000, i found it very useful:

Step 1: FA lvl 2 or 3 (hits)
Step 2: Input motion for dash (The dash actually comes out later than the input, allowing you enough time to sustain a charge)
Step 3: Begin a charge immediately after you input the dash
Step 4: Hold the charge until the end of your dash
Step 5: Input the rest of the ultra motion at the end of (or slightly after) your dash
Step 6: Hit
Step 7: Bust out the popcorn

I know after a blocked Cosmic Smart you can n.j as part of a mixup , but what normal do you guys when doing it. I tried to n.j.:hk: but I could only land it a few times. Any tips?
