Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Trickiness: when the opponent is getting up in the corner, do ex walldive just as he gets up so that you’re right on top of him right then. Which way does he block, toward where you were or toward the wall? He just has to guess whether you’re considered going toward the wall or going away from the wall.

Alright, played again at CTF today, the beast was unleashed. I almost hit the 10 win limit too, then yet another Ken came in…and he wasn’t mashing shoryuken…

Another note, El Fuerte is nothing for me now, just took some properly timed dodges.

I was checking a link provided by tataki on the Gameplay Video links thread, and they added new Vega matches, it is easy to tell which are new, Vega is wearing his red pants and blonde hair ala Alpha 3 (or was it Cvs2…?)

You must defeat Shenlong to click this link…
Or you can type “???” which is Balrog in japanese and you can get more results.
He is mainly fighting vs Blanka, Gief, and Dhalsim.

Also I have a question about Vega’s Ultra/Super command. I read someone was asking if you could still do his old ST shortcut :db::df::ub:or:uf::3k:
Only blazeu25 confirmed this, but some users were still bitching about this topic so I just wanted to make sure.

Thnx in advance

Hey, how come when I try to control which wall Vega goes for, he still doesn’t follow.

Like when I try Up-Forward to go towards the opponent, he still flies away. Is there something I’m not aware of?

I think you have to do the whole command this time around.Tho i really haven’t tryed to see if there was a shorter way ATM.

On El fuerte:The only problem with him is his damn 66/33(i think) on wakeup.

1.He can go for for a crossup overhead body splash with can be dodged by standup and blocking forward(since it hits behind you).

2.he can cancel his run into a trow which is techable, any you can counter it with a jumping fierce

3.You can dodge them all with a well timed Kx3 or Px3

In short, other then his crazy wake up game he lacks a good pokeing game, takes alot of dmg, lacks really good anti-airs(tho he has one anti-air grab).

I was reading the older post in this thread and some videos and i think it’s worth bringing up agian.

Backjumping Fierce on oppements wakeup. It olny does decent dmg, but you can get people off guard and it also put your slef back into pokeing distance.

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you guys know that the Vega strategy guide on EventHubs.com was updated recently.

http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/jul/07/vega-claw-street-fighter-4-character-guide/

I’ve taken some of your guy’s comments and incorporated them into the guide, and I credited you down below for your contributions.

Hope the guide makes sense, but if you notice anything that’s off or needs to be changed, just let me know.

Edit: Should also mention the all of the character guides, including Vega, contain frame data now.

thanks for that! everything looks pretty good.

small, minor note about vega’s bnb though (j.hk, cr.lk, hard flip kick). i had some time to sit down and play with the cpu the other day, and it seems like cr.lk can be replaced with cr.mk for slightly more damage? i think the game at least gave more points for doing it (not sure if that means more damage as well).

Since you landed it, makes a lot of sense to replace the Light Kick with a Medium. I’ll update the guide. More damage is always better.

Thanks for the note.

Forgive me if it’s already been mentioned somewhere in this thread, but how does Vega punish Blanka ball and headbutt on block? I remember there being a post in the SFIV section where someone listed all the options everyone had on block versus those moves but I can’t find it =/.

who are you man?! i go to ctf all the time and i ask around and they same im like the only good vega player at ctf, im the tall slim kid with glasses uses vega all the time, what days do you go and what do you look like?

I go EVERY Saturday, and randomly in the middle of the week. I’m most likely going this Friday.

I’m the tall white guy (I’m Persian but people just call me white) with short black hair, and I’m usually dressed in all black. Not in a goth way or anything, I just happen to like black.

I’m not known there by name, only by face. And if it helps, I use Twelve in 3S.

here you go, pimp: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=164316

if you want to avoid chip damage or w/e, you also might want to try doing 3x kick (single flip back), and then punishing from there.

When was the last time you went?

J.hp,Cr.Mk,Hard filp kick should work frame wise.

Also wouldn’t be wise to start you poking game with Cr. Lp or Cr.Mk, since they 1+ 2+ on block i think(need to check fame data more). If so using them as combo starter would allow you to link in more attacks safely.

Using those numbers using cr.Mk followed by a cr.HK would be safe?Sorry if mmy knowledge of frames is lacking since comes form mostly from playing tekken abit.

Edited:

This Friday I’ll go to CTF late, because I never get to see the “really good people” in the afternoon. Best player I’ve fought is probably the Ken dude with semi-long hair and looks stoned.

Thanks a lot my dude!

Ok scrub question time.

Can someone explain me the advantages of using :df::hk: after Izuna Drop as a crossup? Maybe what I am missing here is the advantage of a crossup. I have seen players use j.hp or cr.mkxxex izuna drop after the crossup but I still don’t get the advantages.

If this is the wrong thread I would gladly post this somewhere else to get an answer.

Thnx in advance.

:df::hk: From what I gather by watching Nisepachi, is used for cross-up sake. Usually the first one or two times he does it he tricks the opponent, but afterwards they just end up blocking his attacks again.

for one thing, the crossup is great for getting yourself out of the corner

Yeah, cornered Vega = Baaaaaaaaaaaad.
EX Sky High Claw and Scarlet Terror are the only options I can think of if you’re under pressure. But I haven’t tried EX Barcelona in a corner situation, can anyone tell me how that worked out for them if they tried it?

After Izuna Drop, your opponent can’t quickrise. Therefore:

You can do Cosmic Smart (df+HK), then:

c.LK xx EX Barcelona
c.MK -> c.MP xx EX Barcelona (c.MK is vulnerable to being thrown on wakeup sometimes, watch your proximity)
Kara Throw
Jump-back HP (punishes throw attempts!)
Jump straight up, MK (forces tick-throw situation)
Jump straight up, HK (misses, allows for immediate grab or c.LK xx EX Barceona)
Backflip
Back-dash
