Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

It is okay francys, pick what you like. Actually i am pretty sure you can write that much clearer than I do.

Wow…
I stand corrected, I remember reading the last frame recovery thing a while back and it made sense lol
that was a good read Ajunta =D

Just a quick question, is there any sort of definitive tournament level Vega player that I can watch for play style tips? If not can someone name a few top notch players that I should watch.

Tatsujinken, makoto, and cat-k are the ones i follow.
Tatsu is on psn if u wanna play him.

Btw where in oregon are you located? We can get in some mirrors if ur up for it.

I’m in the rogue valley, southern oregon. I play on PS3, I wouldn’t mind setting up some online matches if that’s what you had in mind, and if you play on PS3 obviously hehe.

I warn you though, I’m a pretty new SF player, well serious SF player anyways.

Thanks for the names, I’ll look them up; just trying to figure out what some of the more popular combos are and how a high level Vega is used.

Jozhear and Evil Elvis are two other really amazing claw players, in my opinion.

I like “agent hoy” too.

Heard nout about him lately. Think he plays Blazblue instead now.

he made the right choice, eventhough BBCS is total ass, its waaay better than S/SF4.
imo

I can’t do a 1 frame link with Vega consistently if my life depended on it. It won’t even work with Turbo selected on my TE stick…advice?

I’ve done all of Vega’s trials except 18 and 20-23, because they all requires 1 frame links.

Sorry, my connection made it double post…

Turbo wont help for one frame links. though until some point turbo can sometime pull one frame links while you never can.

But a trained player is more consistent at 1 frame links than a turbo.

At its fastest turbo will input the move every other frame which basically means you can never get beyond an average 50% consistency on 1 frame links.

You might want to turn the thing off basically, whatever you do playing with turbo is nothing but riding a bicycle with baby stabiliser wheels, it feels good to have the impression you CAN bike, but at some point it is going to handicap you to turn and to speed up, in the long run it is just holding you back.

Having never played a fighter before. It took me a 6 month to be able to complete the ji.HP – cr.mk – fst.lk – fst.lk – cr.mp trial for the first timeand i tried every week for an hour or something it drove me crazy, could never pull all those links in a row.

Now I am still not as consistent as some here with links but I can run through trials from one end to the other in 30 minutes.

It just comes down to that PRACTICE and then PRACTICE MORE.

One frame links are not just usefull in combos, sometimes you need to have 1 frame accuracy when you counter attack, or when you pressure someone’s wake up etc…

You need to master the skill no matter what character you play.

i concur

Agent Hoy doesnt really play the game anymore afaik

It only took me a few minutes to realize turbo is useless, I was only giving it a shot because I saw in an older thread on SRK that you can beat Vega’s 18th trial with it, but it didn’t work for me.

But thank god, last night after 3 months of trying I finally finished trial 18, only three more to go.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I DID ITTTTTTTT!!!

I had to share with ya’ll.

Quick Question. Im testing out vega now as a part of my CtoShiningC training. I’m having a difficult time dealing with & generation offensive pressure, especially when playing someone good at the rushdown game and have good defense(seems like they know their frame advantages) Against players who rush me down and keeps me close i’m pretty much blocking and teching the whole way and eventually losing.

I’ve tried to jab out once there seems to be an opening in the block string, running away/wall jumping out of the corner, short backslashing out, they all seem to just get me out of the pressure temporarily but my opponent never seems to fear much from me as I have difficulty dealing any damage unless i land my Cosmic Heel combos.

Any tips on how vega could generate offensive pressure/deal enough damage to fear them to move back a bit? Also, while being pressured what are some of the options to make them back off? EX-ST or EX-FBA? Or are they too slow? would I need to jab-combo into them?

Vega can’t generate offensive pressure, he is in the cast of the slow hitters, even zangief has faster normals.

you have a few moves that generate presure

**fst.lk, cr.mk, CH on the ground

medium and heavy jump ins

meaty light jump ins**

Some moves leave you at a neutral state like cr.lp and cls.HP

Everything else leaves you at 0 frame adv or less which means you will be late on the next hit.

Your front dash is too slow to pressure with focus level 2 so it is a no.

You can’t really pressure people basically, or you 'll be taking insane risks, every time you press something you can lose to a shoryu, and you attacks generate tons of pushback so you’ll be out of grab range pretty early during strings.

As you have noticed you can’t really defend well once someone is in and on frame advance. All you can do is block, you have to wait for an opportunity to counterhit, tech, backdash, focus jump or backflip, it is all very character and move specific, there is no easy way out reversal, you will often need 1 frame accuracy and you need to know a lot about the other guy’s strings timing.

Vega doesn’t win the fights by turtling or on the contrary rushing down opponent.

You have to change the rythm of the game constantly, going into offense and guessing when the guy will shoryu then punish him.

Then going into outright evasive manoeuvering and forcing the guy to become reckless and try something unsafe to nail you down, which again you can punish.

Vega is good at footsies too but unless you can pull those very difficult character specific combos to make it matter all you’ll net at footsies is a bunch of single pokes/counterpokes. the exception being CH ^^ ST and you can take for granted you’ll land one of them at least during a round.

You also have to rely on gimmicks to win, you won’t net a lot of damage with them, but the objective is to saturate the other guys brain with details. As usual with gimmicks you need to know a lot of them and never use the same one too often or in the same situation. They are in essence easily punishable things.

While you can’t pressure or defend well, what you can and should achieve is making the other guy feeling very unsecure about doing anything at any range. And make their life miserable for trying to get in.

**To summarise,

Vega is an ambusher ,though a subtle one , you cannot provoke the other guy mistake with shear pressure, or turtling, he needs to let the other guy breathe as much as he needs the other guy to give him some air. You have to earn your opportunities the hard way, and then you have to make the very best out of them. You can rely on gimmicks and setups to net 25% your damage.**

been playing vega since HD remix came and i still dont know how the hell to do his 2 hit combo with the claws, during flying barcelona.

Same as if you want to do the drop but you release the stick when you press the punch button, also you need to have started an EX wall jump the normal wall jump can never lead to a double claw strike.

while i am at it, it is the same with the super press a direction + punch you get izuna roll, no direction you get quad claw strike.

The methods changed throughout SFIV history. In Vanilla people didn’t really get that you need to tech a kara throw super late, so even pros were usually just mashing on crouch tech after blocking a tick/pressure normal. In this case, it was pretty common for a Vega player to just (just as you said).
I don’t remember when it was exactly, but I think it was around SBO - when ppl realized you needed to wait a little after blocking the tick normal to successfully tech the kara throw - that’s when Makoto jdRpIf958gg#t=1m19s"]began ticking with a normal (mostly cr.LP), then kinda walked back and forth for a split second and df.HK’d immediately after. It’s basically just taking advantage of
This is also the method I used when I was still an active player. I used to land cosmic heel like this pretty often.
