Having a recordable dummy made me realize how dumb my “Who fishes for counterhits with heavies statement?” was.
I mean in SFIV I fish for people focus dashing through fireballs with Solar Plexus Strike all the time, and in SFV I realized that Necalli’s standing heavy kick is a crush counter and absolutely safe on block from all distances.
Guess speculating is really way to early as of now since we need a fully functional training room and a bit of time with the game in order to make proper assessments of what is good an not, both in terms of character strength and also in terms of system mechanics.
I actually had a lot more fun playing Vega then I thought. Didn’t really explore to much into his declawed mode so what are his advantages outside of the command grab? He losses so much range on his pokes without.

he gets some new links and some normals like cr. mp become special cancellable, which means he gets access to better combos and confirms. is his st. mp cancellable too? can’t remember. a lot of the punch moves also get really different animations, don’t know how different they become otherwise though (though the hard punches, standing especially seem REALLY different). and FBA’s claw attack can be linked out of.
Finally got to try the new Vega. Now I just need to blank the muscle memory from previous games, and I’ll be doing more than just losing every match.
I feel like the midair V-trigger is kind of useless, mainly because of the high angle the rose comes down at. I can barely hit the opponent from fullscreen with it.
The combos are really good, and I’m getting the hang of them thus far, but it would be nice to have some more links with claw on outside of cr.LP into itself.
I agree, one of the most useless things is that damn arch on the Rose when jumping… It wouldn’t be so bad if you could neutral jump and launch it but since you can’t it’s pretty useless.
Are you guys aware that you can air V-Trigger really close to the ground? Practically TK height. You don’t have to jump all the way up and let it sail over there heads.
So now that Ken is available I tested how dp punishable Vega’s stuff is right now. Light rcf got punished with all versions of shoryuken in my testing, I made sure it was reversal timing too. I also checked if cr.lp into cr.lp was a true blockstring but I got hit by mp dp, and traded with the light and heavy versions. Clawless st.mp-st.hk target combo was safe on a standing Ken if that’s worth anything lol.
Vega’s roll not being safe is… actually really, really bad. That’s horrible. I just assumed that it was at worst -2 on block, but at actually being at least -3… wow, terrible. Suddenly I want to never use this move.
Alright so I just got my first match after waiting for like an hour, and I think barcelona is just as punishable as ever. Crossed over ken, got hit by DP and ko’ed even though his model wasn’t even touching mine. I do understand that his hurtbox extends when you press P during barcelona, but goddamn, I was COMPLETELY behind him. Oh well, I was not really expecting it to be another way.
