And pray Ryu and Laura don’t block/shoryuken everything.

Tried that but was stopped by level 42 laura 3 times in a row and gave up on it.

I’ll give it another try later and just try to get lucky enough.

For survival I took notes for a couple characters:

M. Bison - He tries to anti-air every FBA with c.hp, which totally whiffs if you go for a cross-up every time.
Ryu - He can and will SRK empty FBA attempts. I found that at a certain range the level 40-something Ryu will start chucking plasma and I beat him by jump punishing bad fireballs.
Necalli - Always tries to Raging Light your FBA. Going for cross-ups makes Raging Light attempts whiff. Tedious because of this, I ended up timing him out.
Rashid - Almost always blocks your FBA attempt but will usually get hit if you keep mashing clawless crouch strong when you land.
Laura - Another character that you should exclusively attempt cross-ups against so you can avoid her AA attempts.
Chun-Li - She usually jumps to try and air-to-air you. I leave the claw on and do early FBA swipes against Chun.
Birdie - Anti-airs everything. Pray for your life. I got a lot of mileage out of Buster Claw here…

Once you get to 30 or so, turn your casual match search on and set it to ‘Ask.’ If you’re getting your ass whooped and want a mulligan just run until a match pops.

i’m watching Nemo’s Vega playing at twitch.tv/daigothebeastv and it’s… beautiful.

Danke was nice to watch during teams at Final Round. Great confirms. He didn’t anti air with CR . HP in Clawless tho and got blown up by jump ins. Pretty day 1 stuff there so it shouldn’t have been happening.

Another thing he did that cost him big was never using V reversal. I’ve seen this with Vegas a lot. There seems to be this obsession with landing a confirm into V trigger > Super . Vegas does enough damage without either of those things. Spend your resources! Vega in deep shit once hes stuck blocking stuff. Next thing you know your Claw is knocked off and you lose half your game plan. It’s much better to be able to escape unfavorable situations 3 - 4 times a round.

Oh and glad to see Nemo using St. MK. Like I’ve said before that button is real in Claw On.

@Rugalitarian I see you on stream bro good shit

Nah, it’s bad. Here’s a counterpoint, in video form:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=gJIrdrjZLEI#t=29m14s

You don’t actually mash crouch jab. Crouching medium punch works for nearly every character. Kazunoko responded to that with a crouching medium punch canceled into V-Trigger, so he knew what was up, it wasn’t just a fluke. He saw the opportunity that Noel gave him and he took it.

You can say, oh that’s Kazunoko, but he’s doing that month ~1, mid-tournament. What the best players are doing in month 1 becomes common knowledge and basic play soon enough. It’s not like “the other guy hit a big button that puts him at minus, time to press buttons” is advanced play, either.

I’m not saying it’s the worst thing in the world, but you shouldn’t build your castles on sand. It is 100% a gimmick, and it’s going to be weeded out the longer the game goes on.

For Survival spamming FBA gets you to like 41-43, then you get shut down by Laura/Ryu who DP everything. If Laura tags you one time it’s GG I swear. But Ryu is shit down by solid anti-fireball play. He plays just like the level 8 dummy in the lab with slightly more input reading.

For the Mika and Birdie in the 40-50 range, (I think Birdie is 45 or 46), just wait for them to whiff something unsafe and punish it. I beat Mika strictly punishing her sweep with slide because she’ll either do that or jump in to get in when I fight her. They will walk at you for a maximum of 3 secs before they throw some shit out.

Also I’ve gotten serious mileage out of throwing out CA as soon as the round starts. They get hit by it like 80% of the time in my experience, almost always jumping into it. The same is true when I use Cammy.

On the taller characters I like to start the round with EX FBA. This is especially effective against Gief for whatever reason. Also hilarious to do against Sim’s floaty ass jumps.

If the color thirst is real have the game search for both ranked and casual matches. It’s unbelievable clutch, although it can be suspiciously MIA when you’re under pressure.

Idk about you guys, but I’ve found the defense buff to be completely useless after ~round 30, and definitely by the 40’s. If you get hit you’ll probably just be combo’ed/vortexed to death if they so much as touch you. Getting knocked down once against 42 Laura is GG.

Bison, Karin, and Sim auto-lose to continuous cross-ups. If you can knock-down Bison/Karin one time just cross-up j.lk into combo until you stun/kill them. Just spam FBA at Sim.

Ive only gotten to stage 46 so I can’t comment after that

IMHO it’s premature to dismiss the switch claw command throw as 100% gimmick. Someone in this forum already mentioned this and I think its important to bear in mind that you can put the opponent into a 50/50 situation with the hp claw. When blocked he need to consider if you will claw switch/command throw or use ASE. If he mash lp or mp your ASE will eat him/her for breakfast any day. If he blocks he may get thrown. A tactics that force an opponent into a 50/50 situation is definitely not gimmicky.
The more important question is how to get close enough force your opponent into such situations.

Are you talking about Claw switching from s.hp, because s.hp xx ASE is a true blockstring. They cannot mash jab through it because they are stuck in block stun. They can mash you out of s.hp claw switch into GID or whatever else you try. There is no mixup unless your opponent is literally sleeping.

No, he doesn’t.

As soon as the opponent sees the claw switch they’re free to mash.

It really is nothing but a gimmick.

Well all I can say is I have caught button mashing ryus and zangief with ASE before after hp block; you can also do a delayed hp target combo follow up in stead that should also catch mashers no?

Nope, both are true blockstrings even if you delay the target combo. The only way you can catch folks with ASE is if they are crouching and you’re doing the lp version wich hits low.

So much nice stuff in those games. It’s like a Vega information overload!

this should be in the video tread

Has anyone got their hands in the SFV Prima guide? It’s surprisingly useful. Mentions what advantage we have after a throw (negative after dash), but positive if we stay in footsies range.

Also, they mention staggering s.HP > s.HP to mess up people’s jab timing. But then they admit it’s a true blockstring and people can just mash out of s.HP claw switch. I still don’t understand why they didn’t make s.HP Gatling with any other attack which has a gap. Would add so many layers of mixups off of one of our better normals.

Regarding the Mika MU, I think Vega can beat her in footsies. But he cannot lose footsies or its resets into death.

I have the thing where you pay 10 bucks and you can acces the prima guide but i don’t have a digital or otherwise copy for myself…and is okey i guess…most of the times it says that after this or that you are better of going back to the neutral game were “you should have the advantage”…it does say that after an ex comand grab you dash in and end up at +2…the prima guide also suggest that your go to “on reaction” anti air should be nj mp…i’m currently trying to use it more…one thing i found that it is really useful for is beating cleanly Bison’s normal stombs

Sorry guys… I’ve failed again.

I saw one of your games and you were awesome (you one that one fairly dominant i don’t remember against who)…couldn’t find the rest of the matches among the many hours of stream…no matter what you represented us well…cheers!
