Other shotos could, but not ryu. E. ryu can chain into s.lk and cancel into a special (afaik, only e. ryu and chun li can cancel from a chained special).
Also only close lk, which was unreliable and thus useless. Far lk served a very different purpose.
And thus the tiniest kara throw range was born. (Not seriously, as I’ve seen much worse) Certainly isn’t as nice as his f.MP was in 3S, but I suppose it’s something.
As for the throw invuln, it looked to me like Nash was just too far. Ryu always takes a pretty hefty lean forward when throwing his babies around, and his throw box always goes with him. Gotta push right on up to his pushbox. Even if it is a thing, who throw punishes a whiffed hadoken?
Off topic, but I totally disagree. E.Ryu’s cl.lk is awesome. As long as you can hit confirm c.lk, s.lk xx special, it’s great(either I’m a hit confirm god, or everyone can do it after they get good at hit confirms). If you need c.lk, c.lk, s.lk, it isn’t reliable. It works vs. everyone, but some characters you can only get cl.lk on the third hit if you’re getting them on wakeup. Kind of fell out of my game, but I used to hit confirm c.lk, cl.lk xx hk tatsu all the time before I really optimized my combos.
I didn’t think to try with Ryu in 5. I’ll mess with it the next chance I get, though, and see if it’s useable.
St lk in SFV allows him to cancel into specials and ex moves, but no links unless you hit it CH.
cr. lk is about the same except less range granted you can chain cancel now, so it has more use overall. But no linking from cr. lk to st lk anymore.
Sadly, it depends on distance. In the matches I got to play, you can interrupt it from max range and even parry for a better punish. I think I recorded a match that I did it in, will try to find and upload that clip for ya.
No go on the video, but the other aspect of the low forward xx fireball string is that light fireball is really hard to combo into, even if you are withing the max distance. They might be using light in the video. Heavy is your best bet, but you can still get a true string with st. lk xx HP fireball.
I never got punished for it, but at the same time I feel like it might be punishable. Would need the ability to use an actual training mode for real though. Probably DP punishable from certain distances. Which means Ken might get a free punish every time.
I still don’t get why c.mk into Hadouken isn’t just fully confirm and also safe on all distances. It’s not like this is going to drastically shoot Ryu up the tier list so to me it’s completely silly to still have it potentially be punishable at certain distances.
On the Dictator Anti-Fireball reflect, I’m curious if anyone has actually tried to parry Dictators fireball reflect? My reasoning is that I’m wondering if Ryu is actually safe after the Parry and cannot be punished because if this is the case then the Dictator Reflect may actually be more beneficial to Ryu instead because of the free meter build.
Also, I would like a more thorough understanding of how Ryu’s Zoning game is in this game. Not V-Trigger Ryu, but just his normal Zoning game please, because that to me is More Important because you’ll be spending most of your time in this state rather then in V-Trigger. His V-Trigger to me looks very good, and the Denjin-Setups could potentially become really powerful when we break the game down more.
As I’ve said before, I just don’t want Ryu to be mediocre, because even looking at someone like Ken, I’m slightly jealous. The guy has the ability to run, and mark my words when I say this, having the ability to run will become incredibly strong when you take into account his more bull dogging style in SF:V. You also gave Ken a dive kick like attack which can setup juggling opportunities.
Apologizes if I sound so negative, but I’m just hesitant at this moment when certain characters on the V roster already look gimmicky (like Cammy, Charlie to an extent imo), and Capcoms seeming love for giving everyone a dive kick…Necalli looks like he has a divekick, Cammy has a divekick, Ken’s divekick, all the while it’s completely forbidden to even allow Ryu the option of a safe c.mk into Hadouken on all distances.
In a game where it looks like bulldogging could potentially be very prominent, I don’t believe I’m asking too much to make it so that they can give Ryu strong capabilities that can either detract or suppress such tactics.
