Vanguard Princess: Happy 5th anniversary!/eigoManga SUCKS - Now on Steam

Wait so you’re telling me ‘Tank Girl’ isn’t in the game now?

:C

At the current moment, no. This is because the version we’re getting is the current 1.08 build. I’m speculating that VanPri Prime will be the next iteration of the game in a update. Austin stated that if for some reason that Sugeno-san decides to release Prime right after the US ver, although it will make things complicated, EigoMANGA will go ahead with working with him to have the US 1.08 version converted into Prime.

Sad to say, everything is all up to Sugeno-san which is why it would be helpful if I can get someone to contact him personally to ask in regards as to what he intends to do with Prime at the current moment.

So the GDC is over… and?

GDC is over but I haven’t gotten any word from Austin as of yet. It took a while for the last email so give me a bit of time to see when I get another response.

You have made an excellent work, what i’m saying is that i was thinking this “GDC” stuff will be showed in public and it will be covered on gaming sites…

I was thinking of trying this game out but just am curious if I can still get games in online. Any active scene going on?

On IRC there’s at least a few of us who play.

Zero will completely destroy you!!! I managed defeat some of his lesser used characters but after few battles he then proceeded to destroy me with S-rank fighters, minimal fun was sustained :frowning:

Got Vanguard Princess V1.08 to work on my PC… (AMD chipsets seem to run well with Cthulu-type PCB’s. Not so cooperative with Hori PCB’s unless you map them to X-padder or other third-party utility program.) Sad to see that the update blog has dropped off the face of the earth.

Maybe Skullgirls success might encourage the developers more?

There’s no reason a decent, indie fighting game can’t succeed on download anymore, is there???

Still XBLA-only for the retail VP, eh?

Soooooo…any word from Austin EigoManga?

Unfortunately, no. I haven’t gotten any word from him since. Either he’s very busy or just not responding, I don’t know but I resent emails but got nothing back since.

Excellent Japanese Vanguard Princess tournament from April 2012, awesome Eri and Kurumi stuff!!

Definitely off-topic but sure most people will find this funny

Seems that even on high-budget productions someone at Japan game industry finds aceptable to use free music on a Kenshin game.

It’s kinda urking me that I can’t seem to get a response out of Austin in regards to the last email I sent with the batch of questions everyone wanted me to ask. Not only that, no E3 showing, nothing about wanting to display the game at EVO, nothing…not a single thing. Working at a snail pace, I suppose.

Looks like Monster just got another friend.

sigh

yo i talk to him at AX this week and he said he wants to show it at Evo but doesn’t Know how to go about showing it at Evo i told him he needs to talk to MR. Wiz about it but for right now i think its to late to ask about it for Evo. I told what could is set it up in the B.Y.O.C. area and just have player try it also he said to and Xtra_Zero from DL that there going for P.C. now. Also cross post what he toldXtra_Zero from DL.

So at AX I talked to the publisher, eigoMANGA. One guy working there said the XBLA release is still on, the other said it isn’t, and that the target platform was changed to tablets and browsers?! The second guy said they’d be at EVO demoing, but the setup they had is not sufficient. It was pads connected to a PC with a stretched aspect ratio. Nobody working there knew how to play it

****

Sounds like no one has no idea what the hell is going there at eigoMANGA except for Austin. Someone reeeeeeeeally needs to contact him to get some sort of confirmation.

BTW it was Austin who i talk to and told me its now coming for P.C. and he trying hard to get the ESBR to give it the Teen rating if that clear up more about who was at eigoMANGA booth AX 2012 and said he does not know much about 2D fighter at least that what he told me

Okay nignags, I went to the ghetto booth/set-up at EVO for Vanguard Princess.

So pretty much, the game will be released on XBL, PC, and Tablet, will be 1.08 version but with fixed bugs and infinites. It’ll come out around August. The dude said that honestly he didn’t ask Sugeno about Prime so there is really no news on that.

What concerned me the most is that the guy that held the ghetto setup who told me he was in charge of coding the stuff said that it seems that (don’t take my words word for word since I happened upon it the spur of the moment and didn’t have shit to write it down so I could be wrong about this particular fact) with how Eigomanga licensed the game and how the rights are handled, they are able to make a build that could diverge from what Sugeno is doing with Vanguard Princess Prime.

And what was wrong was that is that the person who knows how to code and stuff doesn’t really know what’s up with basic fighting game fundamentals and design. He said he wanted the game to have airdashes and all that shit and I had to explain to him all of the system mechanics, why particular characters and archetypes had limited movement options, why anti-air normals are important in relation to limited aerial movement and that you can’t air block ground normals. I had to explain to him that Vanguard Princess, to me, is pretty much Street Fighter to the extreme being without 2-in-1s, largely ground footsies based, compensating certain spacing and cancels with assists.

So at the least, I felt good because when I explained that shit to him and he said that he really learned a lot and said that’s the reason why he put the set up in the first place so he could have the “hardcore players” come in and give their 2 cents about the game. I think it wouldn’t matter too much otherwise because I would have gotten Prime anyways if the US stuff was dank.

On a different note, the netcode will still be using Lunaport, but once the team could get more people and resources (whenever and however that happens) Eigomanga wants to work on a new netcode or something. I got this answer when I asked if there will be savestate rollback netcode or the same input delay stuff. So I forgot to clarify if they’re going to work towards savestate rollbacks.

But yeah, the overall set up was ghetto. Just a table and a TV with a laptop behind it and a small sign that says vanguard princess. People sat on the floor and they had PS2 pads with wonk ass radioshack converters. And some other dude that was non-Eigomanga told me that he was helping the guys with setting up saying to them prior to use ps2 pads instead of 360 pads or otherwise the Eigomanga guys would have gone through with bringing that instead. But he had some dank opinions about the game when I explained how footsies worked in the game.

So overall, I feel like the whole project seemed kinda sloppy and I’m kinda scared of direction it could take in the West. And I don’t want to be the hero that has to talk with weird ass weeaboos to make sure this stuff happens correctly but ugh I don’t know what to do.

Either way, it’s coming out soon and it’s gonna be 1.08 with Lunaport-ish stuff with English and worked out bugs and infinites. So not too bad, but I don’t know how dumb it might be after it comes out. If nothing happens, let’s just get Prime and see what happens. Oh, and this build I played had that 5th Assist available without needing to random it. I didn’t bother with it and played a really basic Kaede as if it was KOF and whiff punished/CH into rekkas and controlled space with robot assist 6D.

One day, Prime.

I remember sitting around with some guy playing a game at EVO 2010 that was literally running off of the dude’s laptop, and all it had was two characters. It was the jankiest setup ever, but I, along with five or six other dudes, played the hell out of it.

That game was Skullgirls. The point is to have faith in grassroots marketing. Sometimes good stuff just takes a while to get noticed.
