This is probably the best place to ask if anywhere, I need some BB Hood tips on a few more specific concepts:
Every time I watch Sako he zones on the ground with excessive dashing and missiles and then he gets in the air to do some medium normal into j.HK; I don’t really see how I can get the j.HK to work for me, I’ve almost never seen it connect and even worse I get punished for it sometimes. Is he just building meter?
Bulleta vs. Talbain matchup; my friend was playing Jedah and we go even (mostly favoring him) and then he switches to Talbain and said he uses the “same tactic as me”; empty air chains and out-poking… Honestly all he did was dash-in chains that usually led to an (almost) tick throw and jump in meaty attacks. I really couldn’t find myself able to do ANYTHING–I was unable to beat him on wakeup, but if I tried to block the wakeup it would just end in me getting thrown. I can’t zone him with missiles because every time I try to dash away to get an advantageous position I’m beaten by Talbain’s dash and punished for it. I found the champagne (dp+p) worked against the jumps, but the reliability of that is nothing when he could just as easily low poke and chain it.
I guess what I’m asking… Am I supposed to keep a steady offensive or start defending? My idea was that Talbain AND Bulleta want to do the same thing and its just a matter of player skill that decides who comes out on top… I went all out with mixup and offense and had 2 bars when I (rarely) beat him… I can’t really pinpoint WHY I won though, if anyone has experience with the matchup any solid tips that work in most of these matches would be greatly appreciated.
Last question I’m starting to see on my own; meter should be reserved for ES Missiles and command throws only? I found the hunter call super works in some cases (like an overzealous Jedah) but people are saying its way too easy to punish and I should use the ES missiles. Are they correct?
If anyone could reply to any of these points, even the smallest contribution, I’d appreciate it… I’m still trying to learn this game too, me and lipucd are even sparring partners from time to time and I hope the veterans of the community can shed some light on the problems we have.
I can’t tell you what to do with BB Hood, but I have a lot of experience in this matchup from Talbain’s perspective. It’s been a loooooong time, but here’s how I remember it. This might sound bad for Talbain, but I’m only posting the negative aspects of the matchup:
BB Hood controls the pace of this match. Her ability to throw fireballs at many different speeds makes it very hard for Talbain to just jump in for free - his most useful and easiest way to approach his opponents. As if that wasn’t enough, BB Hood’s normals are quicker, safer, and just generally outprioritize Talbain’s. The Japanese matchup chart I’ve seen says this match is 6-4 Talbain, but I think it’s 6-4 BB Hood, because of her ability to set the pace - no better than 5-5 for sure.
Quite a few of Talbain’s easy mode tactics and shenanigans don’t work on BB Hood. You have to use a Short Hop to dash in against her, and you can’t cross her up. It’s also very hard to talk under her various jumping attacks.
Because Talbain has awful defensive options, it’s very hard to deal with BB Hood’s pressure game. She has a lot of ways to mix it up in such a way that it’s hard to pushblock reliably. Other than push blocking, all you can do is hope that she does a poorly-placed normal that you can GC out of, or try using Dark Force, but Talbain’s DF is really risky.
This is, if I remember correctly, how BB Hood does it. If B-IzM or someone comes through this thread, they can correct me where I’m wrong:
BB Hood will not rush Talbain outright. While her rushdown game is hard for Talbain to deal with, it’s not difficult to stop cold turkey. What BB Hood will try to do is land some sort of knockdown/reset, or catch Talbain sleeping while he tries to get in. This can be accomplished by doing things like forcing him to land on/dash into a fireball, dashing under a jump in, or chicken guarding Talbain’s air strings and counterattacking. Once this is accomplished, she can begin her pressure game, and it can be very difficult for Talbain to get out.
Both Talbain’s and BB Hood’s goals in this match is to pin the other so that they can start their rush. Unlike most Talbain matches, BB Hood is a difficult target to hit with jump-ins, so Talbain will have to be really on point with his ground game…for a change. When Talbain pins BB Hood, he will mix it up between dashes (goes over lows and low fireball) or walking in (goes under high fireball and I think some random normals).
…ahhh, that’s enough for now. Maybe later tonight I’ll put up a little more.
For Q-Bee what would be better use of bar, QJ or ES C->R? When I land ES C->R it does more damage for what it’s worth so for the most part I go with that. Also, any input tricks to make sure when I go for ES C->R I don’t get QJ instead? Because allot of times this will happen to me ( including at times when I could have combo it in, but instead waste bar and get smacked for doing such a slow attack so close. ) and it’s hurting my game.
On the subject of match ups, just how should Q-Bee handle Talbain? I can’t seem to poke out of anything, and teching doesn’t do much to slow him down, doesn’t help that IAD rush down doesn’t work too hot on him because he’s almost in the air more then me! I try my AA’s ( s.mk, s.hk, c.hp ) but he seems way to fast to get them with, doesn’t help that the one I’m currently fighting seems to be able to tech throw every second…Again, I have no clue what I should do with this at all, some pointers at least would be nice.
I guess adding onto my question from my first post, just how the heck do I attack people with projectiles? Lilith, Demitri, Morrigan, BBH, and a few others just LOVE to throw one out the second I dash in, and once I do that I can’t really block ( AFAIK once you dash you give up blocking ) and I’m getting kinda fed up about eating attacks each time I want to attack myself…;-;
Well thanks for the help guys! Again I can be found on GGPO for the most part.
Huge thanks to SkankinGarbage, I had the matchup lined up properly and even told the other guy I figured out what I needed to do but couldn’t execute it. Seems I just need work on my rushdown.
I get to speak from experience playing you, the reason we use projectiles is because your IADs are very consistent, and my only option out is a random s.lp or a missile. Mix it up a little.
I played matches with a couple of my buddies. I actually had my Vampire CPS2 board there, but never got a chance to hook it up to any of the cabs because of A2/A3/ST. I was really wanting to play Nohoho’s Victor too.
BB hood vs talbain is very very weird. BB hood has a very hard time keeping talbain out of the air(mainy characters do actually) and She also has a really hard time getting in. This is where she is the strongest because her pressure and rushdown game are extremely good. As a BBhood player you have to watch for talbain keeping you at a mid distance due to the fact that he has extremely long limbs and your pokes will more than likely not beat his out. Use alot of c mp when in range as this beats a few of his pokes to discourage him from poking randomly and then proceed to rush down once you have talbain playing passive. A passive talbain can be harder to deal with honestly but at least you dont have him rushing at you.
If talbain starts rushing at you, You can GC to teleport out of the way(General knowledge) And you might wanna step up your tech hit(push blocking) Game because that will also keep talbain at bay. If you know when to use it properly that is. All in All. The matchup for bbhood and talbain isnt too bad. But it surely isnt fun for you lol
Nice to hear! I’ll be getting back on tonight as well, had to take a breather due to a few things ( allot of running around in the last days, and when I got back too tired to do anything ).
If anything here’s hoping I can use some of the advice I’ve been reading up from members here, it’s all if anything made me rethink my gameplan!
Ok, im trying to get this ggpo to work for me again, cause I want more comp in vs. I got it to work for my work computer (LULZ) which is xp but on my home laptop (vista) I get connection error + booted from program. Anyone have a clue whats up?
