Hi, I’m new to Vamp Savior and am looking to get cherries popped on my Bulleta/Felicia. Would anyone like the privileges on GGPO/2DF tomorrow around 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm (PST)?
I recommend felicia over bbhood. hood is extremely complex. When you’re crappy with her, she’s middle mid tier. When you’re god like, she’s top tier and getting god like with BBH is fucking HARD. Very tricky character.
Felicia on the hand is extremely basic. Definitely a good character for someone trying to learn the game. She has one of the best AA’s in the game, one of the best DF’s in the game, one of the best jumps and the current DCC champion in japan won this year with felicia.
Stick with one character for right now until you learn what you’re doing and what the other characters look like. The game is incredibly balanced so play who you want. For learning purposes though stay away from the low tier characters, stick with the mids ops till you know whats going on.
if you see myself or kajoq on, we can show you a few felicia tricks to get you going. There are other felicia players but kajoq and I are on often.
Hey, where can I find a tier list for this game. I thought I saw one once in this thread but it’s also 143 pages long.
I’d say I would want to play this game more, but I’m too lazy to get onto GGPO. =/
EDIT: nvm, found a few good ones.
Lol c’mon Mike! You have a good scene for the game right there in EP. Just need to get Chuy to play anything besides Super, lol. I think he has the Vampire Collection.
(you should hop on GGPO though)
So who’s going to NEC for vampire savior that can functionally read japanese? I have just aquired two copies of a new piece of Vampire literature, and i would <3 for some thorough translation. One i’m keeping. the other i’m debating on what tourney/function to give it away w/.
Quick question about the Vampire scene. Why is it that Savior is so much more popular than Hunter? I mean, both games are fantastic, so why is one played so much more than the other (without giving vague answers like “Savior is just better”)?
Same reason way more people play MVC2 over MVC1 or XVSF. Go play them back to back. The presentation, gameplay, etc feels so much more Polished in Savior over Hunter
I would just say it’s because of personal choice and more people like vs over hunter as vampire savior is newer and usually newer games get a bigger community/more players than old versions. However if you like the game you shouldn’t give it up if you think it’s fun keep playing it, you shouldn’t care about what others think in terms of gameplay and should try to find people such as yourself whom you can enjoy the game with competitively.
well after VS, there was a VS2 and it was pure shit. The community doesn’t always gravitate to the NEWEST game all the time. One of the few times in capcoms history where they attempted to make the game easier and fans of the series basically said fuck you for watering down VS2 and didn’t play\buy it @ all.
hunter is just so limited compared to VS. Hunter is FAR slower, no push block, not as balanced as VS, no dark force etc… its just blah.
Yeah, I’ve been playing Hunter longer than Savior (Hunter was actually the first fighting game I ever got really serious about), and I know that there’s still a scene for it since it’s included in the DCC every year. I’m just kind of bummed that more people don’t play it in the US. But with the Vampire scene as small as it is to begin with, perhaps I shouldn’t complain too much.
vs2 seems like an incomplete game to me, it’s like they just added different characters but didn’t put the “real” effort in, they could of thought up of something new like they did with the vh -> vs. Had they done that, it could of probably been more successful.
VS2 was an attempt to make the game more scrub friendly. They took out multi hit air chains which is REALLY vital in VS, I believe the max was 2 pokes in the air any character. They removed individual DF’s from the game and replaces all DF’s with a generic one that allows characters to do multi hit air chains and other shit. IIRC, vs2 also removed dash links which fucks over quite a few ground based characters like bbhood\liltih. I don’t know that much about VS2 but I do know some of the elements they tried to incorporate and how everyone basically took a dump on the game.
a lot of the changes for VS2 were directed towards the casual market and all the hardcore VS players said FUCK THAT SHIT. So far, there has only been 2 instances where the community has performed a backlash against capcom. sf2 new challengers, and VS2\VH2.
So how’s the PS1 port? Is that worth downloading?
To me, it seems like it’s an arcade perfect port of VS, except with more characters. I’d think that that would garner more play than just the plain arcade version IMO. Is it just the fact that it’s a console game?
The old DFs are in VS2. They’re just remapped as new command supers.
VS2/VH2 strike me more as “alternate versions” than upgrades due to the split character roster and a few other things. I’d say that has more to do with their lack of adoption than anything else, personally.
The Saturn port seems to be preferred over the PS1 port due to more accurate animation and greatly reduced load times. There are also DC, PSP, and PS2 compilations. I’m not really sure how the features compare between them.
I don’t think any of the console versions are exact ports of the arcade version. I’m pretty sure they’re all updated in some way, which is why most people just play the regular arcade version. Could be wrong, though.
mar\kajoq both say that the ps2 version with dip switch settings is arcade perfect. Saturn is pretty close to perfect but no one really carries a saturn to a tournament much less saturn sticks. So the ps2 version is gonna be the one to go with console wise. If you happen to own a saturn and a stick for the system, I believe the game is arcade perfect WITH that extra ram cart thingy. w\o it, I believe it has some frame skipping going on. Not 100% sure.
As far as tournament accuracy goes, kajoq ALWAYS brings his supergun with him so we’re playing arcade VS the whole time.
thnx for the tips on the VS2, what I know about it is from the little knowledge there is about it on srk.
Yeah. You need the RAM pack for it to run smoothly.
PS2 is arcade perfect and the dipswitches can be altered, similar to Street Fighter Alpha Anthology.
plus you can play as Pyron, Donovan and Phobos.
Z3 Upper too. It takes out all the fun from Z3.
PS2 version is the closest to arcade but it’s still 1 frame faster (just like emulators). Having one more frame to react to zabel/bee/sasquatch shenanigans is crucial. And it’s also easier to do a really low iad too.
Saturn has too much random shit to be close to perfect (Zabel dash hp infinite is pretty random). Plus you can actually alter the dip switches to have the saturn version on ps2. PS2 all the way.
