Alright thanks for the heads up. I’ll probably be staying at home then, unless someone else wants to bring a system. I’m not going to be able to bring a console, so we’ll just have something some other time. In the mean time, if people want to stop by my house during the summer to get some games in, pm me.
I’ll probably stay home too. It’s good though because it will force me to stay home and study. After finals we can make up for this.
Salty Runback is coming up, anyone heading there?
Yo Sam. I can make an Facebook UW SF page to help stay connected if there is any interest. We definitely gotta represent UW! Good job at the Salty Runback in MvC dude
Yeah Facebook group sounds good, I was actually thinking about starting one, I just don’t have a lot of people on Facebook from here to add haha.
hey hey hey i want to play marvel with people so if you’re having a gathering let it be known! hahaha
Sadly I’m pretty sure the gatherings for the year have ended since the quarter has ended. I’m not sure if anyone is going to rent a room during the summer.
Is anyone still around? I’m taking summer quarter, and I’ve got a kinda heavy load right now, but I’ll have AE on my laptop once it comes out, and I could see if I could set up at By George every once in a while if people are interested. Just to sweeten the deal, I’ll be keeping my old Vanilla install and sticking Koryu on it.
Also, are there any plans for fall? I’ve got marching band for most nights, but if you guys set anything up on Wednesdays, I’ll definitely be down. Any chance we can grow this beyond Console Freeplay, too?
I personally would like to see a UW weekly ranbat. That would be dope. I would like to see a Street Fighter club as well, just so that we can meet more frequently. I’m not sure how many people actually signed up for Console Freeplay based off of just the name alone (except us Arcade Warriors). As far as that goes though, I think that would be up to Paul, since I’m not a UW student right now (unless someone else wants to step up).
Other than that, I’m gonna try have people over for some games, I just gotta figure out something since I work full-time.
About Console Freeplay for next year - this Summer is actually going to be my last quarter, so from here on I won’t be officially helping out with any club business. I believe Devin is going to be president of the club again next year. If you wanted to set up a Street Fighter club he could point you in the right direction as far as how to do that (I have no clue to be honest).
As far as playing over Summer, last year what we did was just rent a room out in Odegaard and play there once a week. I’d be down for something like that again. I get out of classes at noon, but unfortunately my work schedule is a little random so it’s hard to say exactly what days of the week I’m free. Other that that, I’ve also been playing with some of the other Freeplay members and I’m sure they’d be down for sessions on campus.
Ah damn. Good to know you’re getting out of here Paul, wish you all the luck. You going to be looking for work or are you staying at Pink Gorilla for a while? I’ve been trying to make it to alex’s but work schedule is pretty gay.
Any of you guys heading to Salty Runback? Maybe we can figure something out from there about a direction for the club
Alex and I will be at Salty Runback. I think Randall said he’d try to make it as well.
I still haven’t really decided what exactly I’ll do after I get out of college lol. I like my job at PG, but it’ll be hard to live on that alone for too long so I’ll have to get a new job at some point.
I’m definitely down for starting some sort of UW fight club. I was bouncing some ideas off of some other guys I was playing with last quarter, and we were thinking of making a club next year. I know a guy that used to work at the RSO office (so he knows all the ins and outs of making an RSO), and I met some of the guys that ran WSU’s fight nights last year (we could get some tips from them, and possibly set up some sort of Apple Cup online tourney with them). I think it’d be awesome if we could grab a computer lab and a whole bunch of HDMI to DVI cables and some cheap computer speakers so that way we wouldn’t have to lug around projectors. A little wrinkle, though: I’m only free on Wednesday nights during fall quarter during band…if we held it on a different night, I’ll try and stay as connected as possible.
Also, Paul, I was wondering: Pink Gorilla hasn’t done any fighting tourneys since the MVC3 launch party, right? Out of curiosity, could you guys possibly do something like Starbase down in NorCal, as in, weekly, streamed freeplay for a small fee (maybe something like $3 per night or $20 per quarter?) and smaller monthly tourneys? This would probably be better if we wanted to try and grow beyond just students, and, hey, if we could get it streamed weekly, it should boost the attendance.
I don’t think I can make it to the Salty Runback, but I’m free on campus between 3-5 on MWF (hopefully with AE later this week) if y’all wanna talk.
As far as the 5 person requirement to start a UW club, it would be fairly easy since most people going to Console Freeplay playing SF would join. As far as Wednesday nights go, that’s probably up to everyone else. I know I can make it, there’d just be problems with bringing set-ups (my laptop can run AE). Weekly/bi-weekly ranbats open to people out of UW would be ideal I’d say. If WNF can do it, I’m sure we could too since Wednesdays seem like the day for weeklies. If you guys could set that up that’d be great to see.
Sorry I missed this post before, but yeah we haven’t done any tourneys since the MvC3 launch. More periodic tourneys is definitely something we could do if there’s interest though, since the last one turned out well. The main hurdle is logistics - we have two TVs but they both have some lag so we would need people to bring setups if we wanted to be legit. We do (usually) have both a PS3 and 360 so other that than we would just need games. It would also likely end up being either a bi-weekly or monthly thing, since unless everyone is okay with ending before closing (8 o’clock) I would have a hard time convincing my manager to keep the store open late every week. Also streaming is a definite no - our internet is about one step up from dial-up
How about the Allen South study commons, then? Take a look: http://commons.lib.washington.edu/resources/explore
I’m thinking “Red B” would be a pretty good fit for this (the bottom right hand corner with the 4 tables). The room’s reservable (for 3-hour blocks, and for free), it’s out of the way (so we wouldn’t bug others–I think they’ve got doors we could close, too), it’s open Mon-Thurs until 10 PM, they have 2 rentable projectors, and, if we wanted to try and set up a stream to attract others, we could just connect straight to the wall. I’m thinking we could get, at the very least, 4 setups going if people brought in laptops/consoles with more projectors. Considering we can’t hold the room for more than 3 hours, and I’m sure UW would frown upon their library being used to win money in, we’d probably have to hold tournaments somewhere else (Pink Gorilla, possibly?) I think we could open this up for general ranbats, too…I’ve never been in Suzz/Allen that late before, but I think they close before you’d need to show identification. Plus, we’re right next to the HUB parking lot–any events on the weekends = free parking.
If you guys wanna meet up and discuss this, I’m free on Fridays around 2-3ish until 4:30. Gimme a shout!
Holy crap Allen library looks different from what I remember. I might be showing up on campus on Tuesday, so if anyone else is free let me know if you want me to bring some stuff.
Sorry Chris, I’m pretty much busy all this week, unless you wanted to just get lunch or something.
I’d be down for sessions in Allen, but it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to hold any kind of large tournament in there tbh. It’s too bad the HUB isn’t open until next year, since the rec room in there was perfect for this kind of stuff (plenty of room, easy to access, don’t have to worry about noise, ect.)
Yeah, Allen’s definitely not the place to run a tourney, unless we got clearance to use the main projector area on a weekend or something, and people brought monitors. It wouldn’t hurt to ask, though. Gotta say, I miss the ECC, too…it was way out of the way, they had plenty of rooms, projectors, and parking on the streets.
I checked out the Allen room the other day and they’ve got plenty of plugs, but only a few tables. I’m sure we could grab some more from outside, but the website said the occupancy limit was 25, so if it grew too big, we might have to move elsewhere. There’s a lot of wall space for the projectors, but one of the walls is red, unfortunately. I was talking to my friend who worked at the RSO center (the portable outside the HUB), and he was telling me that they’ve got 2 projectors that you can rent overnight (they close at 8), so we could get up to 4 projectors with relative ease.
I can’t play on Tuesday (Tuesday and Thursday for me = 5 hour afternoon labs, and I take a bus back to Redmond around 4:30 every day), but I’ve got a TON of time to kill on Friday…I’m in marching band, and we’ve got practice for the Torchlight parade on Saturday…starting at 7 PM (I’m done with class on Fridays at 11). I’d be very grateful if you guys wanted to play a few rounds…it’s gonna be a long afternoon.
I’m actually going to Evo (!!!), so I’ll be out of town this Friday. I’m usually free on Friday afternoons when I don’t have work though.
