Well, yang has better footsies to begin with and he’s getting more tools, being able to cancel far standing mp is a godly gift, faster walking speed to further improve footsies, crossup j.mk for new setups and overall damage buffs. He got more but they’re pretty much the main ones. The only things yun got were small BnB damage buffs and red focus, but yang can utilize red focus just as easy as yun due to being able to hit confirm into it with great footsies. Basically every “buff” yun got, yang got too, plus a whole lot more. I don’t play yang all that much so I’m not sure but aren’t their bad matchups basically the same? If so, t.hawk is getting hella buffed and sagat is looking to be top tier. So that sucks for both of them. Not sure what you mean about remembering to fight yang though? Surely that exact same principle applies to yun? Knowing how to fight the character doesn’t make them any less of a threat.

My opinion is that yang will finally be the better twin in ultra, of course yun will still be yun, other than heavy upkicks invincibility andd his nerfed command grab range which affects a few setups he’s still a very solid character but I think USF4 is yangs time to shine. Hopefully he will be tournament viable, it would be really cool to see yang in a top 8.

Yang can make decent use of EXRF too with far MP - MP Palm - EX RF. The reason for far MP is because when canceled it moves Yang forward while crMK does not. As a matter of fact, a crMK at max range canceled to MP Palm whiffs entirely while far MP - MP palm even at max range puts Yang close enough every time for EX RF (even if the crMK - MP Palm hits its usually too far away for Yang’s focus to reach for EX RF after that.)

far MP - MP Palm - EX RF gives Yang very easy to do 400 damage whiff punishes.

That being said, after a ton of experimentation with him over the last few months (in training mode mostly, haven’t really taken him into matches if I’m being honest.) there is only one change I wish he had gotten that he didn’t.

clsHP damage / stun adjustment from 7050 damage 10050 stun to 8535 damage 12575 stun or at least 8040 damage 12030stun if they aren’t willing to up the overall stun. Even that slight boost I think would have helped his max damage combos because a big part is scaling and the lack of large damage individual normals. I think that would have been better than upping mantis slash final hit damage.

It’s debatable if the ~40 damage increase is worth the extra bar though. I haven’t made my mind yet. Also how does the focus scaling interact with the guts scaling?

Low health scaling is based on the health value the character has when they are hit, not what they will have AFTER the hit. So a single big damage attack will do more damage than a bunch of low damage attacks in regards to low health scaling.

For focus attacks all you need to think about is that they are 2 moves in 1 in terms of how scaling works. Otherwise there is nothing really exceptional about them.

Just saw this from the SSF4Ranking guy’s twitter:

Basically he says he hasn’t seen Momochi, Sasaki, Furansujin or any “big” names picking Cody. That’s a bit disappointing. I had expected Sasaki would stick it out. Guess his old main of Ken just looks more fun now. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also he mentions in another tweet that Daigo has a card for several characters

The % I think is referring to win %. 27% win/lose with Hugo? Ouch.

I don’t know if he’ll be top 10, but I think people are sleeping on Gouken in Ultra.

He’s going to be** much **stronger than he’s ever been.

Would be cool to see daigo use evil or ken. Hope he does. As long as he doesnt main guile. When he plays guile its unbearable to watch ><.

I think daigo will drop ryu for sure. He’s by far the worst shoto in ultra in my opinion. As mentioned above, daigo picking ken or evil ryu would be awesome. I think he’d go with e.ryu over ken though due to the fireball game.

Ryu worse than Dan? :open_mouth:

I never thought about it until now but with the evil ken and oni buffs ryu actually does look like the weakest shoto besides dan.

I always forget about dan… haha

You missed the topic that says dan is in the muay thai gang? Or you saying sagat is a shoto

Seth is a shoto too isn’t he? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not sure about Yang being better than Yun in Ultra. Yang got better buffs, but his cross up isn’t as good as anticipated. Yun meanwhile will probably fall a tad but should still be strong. Also in 2012 the gap between the two is huge - most people place Yang around 30th and Yun is top 10 or just outside.

I’m not sure why yang should have a realiable crossup and the other divekickers don’t.

Well to be fair yuns divekick is much better than yangs.

Because his divekick can’t cross up easily unlike the other two divekickers.

the bigger problem for yang crossup divekicks isn’t that it’s that hard to crossup, it’s his minimum height+landing recovery+divekick speed/angle combination.

in a lot of situations even if you hit the divekick as a crossup you aren’t in a great position to get anything going other than cr.short which can whiff on some characters, and if you’re blocked you can actually get in some trouble.

from my experience he has the easiest divekick to make unblockable, and he’s after rufus for fake crossups.

Daigo still spending a lot of time with ryu. As long as he isn’t bad an Daigo doesn’t feel held back by Ryu, he wont switch. The experimentation is most likely him trying to make sure there’s no AE Yun in another character he likes

Interested to see if Mago keeps playing chun. If he does that means she’s top 3. Also keep an eye on Juri

You’re probably right but I don’t see how he won’t feel held back. With the health increase, doesn’t evil ryu do everything ryu does but better? His moveset is much better for offense and damage output, he has some really good resets and now with more health he can play the defensive fireball game basically as good as ryu. The buffs he got were incredible, his sweep can combo from tatsu now. Evil ryu seems to be a better version of ryu. I could understand daigo sticking with ryu over ken because kens fireballs are ass, but I can’t see him picking ryu over evil. I may be underestimating daigos loyalty, but as far as I’m concerned evil ryu is does everything ryu does but much better.
