USF4 | PC Custom Skin Thread

There are already tons, do some characters that are getting less attention.

I’ve have deleted everything and entirely reinstalled the game, updated my graphic drivers (ATI HD Radeon 4670) and directX. But I still have a black faced makoto with Sloth86 lightning skin. He told me that maybe the .emm files didn’t copy correctly or it has something to do with my graphic settings. I would like to know if anyone has the same problem. It’s really weird since every custom skins for every character work fine but this is the only one so far that doesn’t work properly …

what do you type in for the material if you want to have double side mesh ?

Before today’s Stages release, here’s a look at Cammy, Ken and Guile’s HDR Stages :

There’s a few things bugging me :

  • Cammy’s: impossible to make the floor look like a bridge (or at least I can’t do it) ; the foreground buildings look a bit too big
  • Ken’s: can’t get the right feeling to give the impression the dock isn’t ā€œstuckā€ next to the water ; no barrel, because on the floor it would look flat, and on the wall, like it’s floating
  • Guile’s: probably the best of the 3, still the feeling of depth is kinda lacking…

What do you think ?

yeah i released in a while ago in the modding thread: Modding SSF4AE for PC (NO DLC UNLOCKS!)
Conversions are painfully slow and there’s a bunch of weird limitations you have to work around. Knock yourself out :stuck_out_tongue:

hmm…if you have a hex editor try this: open the .emo file and replace all ā€œfaceā€ with ā€œBodyā€ (no quotes). This will give her face the same material as the rest of her skin, so it might fix it idk…

Well, hunterk managed to get to non animated assets from those stages, nothing more. So no people, no aurora thing in th sky… they wouldn’t move anyway, which would be awkward ingame.

I don’t think I’ll work more on those stages, so I might as well release them soon. I’ll wait to see if hunterk has something to say about the things that are bugging me though^^.

Those are looking really good. Wall of text incoming:

The bridge is definitely going to be the hardest thing to get right and probably isn’t worth the effort, honestly. Since it’s being stretched out along the floor, you would probably have to add trees and other ā€˜underneath’ stuff, enlarge the whole bridge layer and then shrink it along the y axis to work with the foreshortening (kinda like those faux 3D sidewalk drawings).

You’ll probably have to drastically shrink the buildings on the sides, too, to make them fit the characters better.

For Ken’s stage, you might try to match the floor perspective and add a sliver of floor on the background to hold the tie-down posts and/or barrels. I’m not sure if that would help with the feeling of flatness, but maybe (maybe not worth the effort, though).

As a general note, the training stage model isn’t exactly the same proportions as the textures we inject (i.e. 1280x800), so it ends up stretching things out along the x-axis. To compensate, you could start with a larger width (1600x800, maybe?) and squish it down to the correct size, thus making everything skinnier. Also, the colors get washed out and brownish, so you might try playing with the saturation and/or contrast.

Aside from the floor stuff, I had to mess with all of these things when I made my Ryu stage. Also, I left out all of the animated parts on the assets I posted because I thought they would look bad, but I can post them too if you want them. The aurora (and clouds on Guile’s stage) isn’t going to happen, though, because I can’t separate the transparency from the solid-color background so it looks terrible.

it could indeed be your graphics settings. Some people have reported similar issues until they turn on texture filtering. You might also see if using a different resolution has any effect.

Thanks for the long tips :)… but most of it is way above my current modding skills. I would love to spend the time needed to learn all that, by myself or with tutorials as I did until now, but time’s lacking. So I think I’m just not going to start toying with those stages anymore…

But I’ll defenitely hope that someone (you ?) will take the time and try to make awesome HDR Training Stages :). If my phd doesn’t take as much time as I’m afraid it’s gonna take, I might even try myself at a later time, who knows^^.

edit: btw, I tried that ā€œadd stuff underneathā€ thing for the bridge the first time I build the stage, but I didn’t adjust the perspective problem, so the result was no good. It really is difficult to work from the 1280*800 texture not knowing what the result will look like…

There was a stage mod (unreleased I think) that modified the Training Stage to be on a ā€œbridgeā€ of sorts. Basically a platform only as wide as the characters and the foreground and background were pits. I’d look into that more.

YES, that’s it, if you put texture filter on or 2x … 12x it works perfectly. If Texture is ā€œby defaultā€ it makes a black faced makotot. Thanks again for the tips :wink:

Ok it is finished. I have finally found a way how to add Normal Map without damaging the model.

  1. Body texture changed
  2. Attacks VFX changed
  3. Her avatar on selection menu and on the hud is changed too. Except for that little icon on selection menu.
  4. Her name is changed on Hud too.
  5. The skin is only applied on Color 8.

P.S One thing to keep in mind… Normal map which I have applied for Juri face will remain on other colors too. In other color modes she looks like her face has been burned.

and oh yeah almost forgot her eyes are a bit different from the picture here. Different ornament.

Thanks guys :). However, as I said, it’s almost the end. All the mods I’ve been uploading for the last 6 days were made in the process of the ULSM, I’m really not doing any more stages right now. So it will not last forever^^.

For Chun-Li’s costume, I think it’s an official one, not a mod. The only mod for Chun-Li I have installed is the yellowish one from the ā€œVillage Streetā€ screenshots.
