Joon its been long enough whats this new tech already?
I’m sorry guys, there’s multiple reasons why I can’t post it here. I hope you guys understand.
But NGL Chris and I will be playing at Ultimate Gaming Center this Saturday 05-17-14 at 4:00 pm PDT! Maybe you guys can see it there.
Stream: Twitch.TV/UGClive
It’s clear this guy isn’t going to give up this “new tech”, dude straight ignored your last couple posts asking about it, it’s just like PR Rog said, american players don’t help each other out when they have new undiscovered tech.

@KennethMasters
PR ROG said that? If this is true let me tell you that he doesnt help anybody here in PR.
It’s just how it is : (
Trust me, I’ve done a lot to try to help around here and the players around me. Here’s what I’ve learned from “helping” back in 2009-2011:
I’ll always have friends and I’ll always have haters, regardless if I help or not. What’s important is results. I’ll either win and become somebody, or lose and become nobody. And I’m ok with that.
Some of you guys were here before me and have watched me grow as a player and person, and I thank you for your support. I’m sorry I can’t share what I discovered recently. Every competitive player does this, and for a good reason, so I hope you guys understand.

Don’t worry Joon. Most of us get it!!
I think people are expecting a bit too much though. It’s not groundbreaking, it’s just a very useful tech for specific situations.
I personally think it’s quite reassuring to see tech in action before going crazy so I’m kinda in agreement with you.
Let your actions do the talking!!
People should just look back at all the hard work you put in to almost every thread in the Ken forum, watch your match play (back in the early days beating Mike Ross, beating Marn etc etc) before speaking up. You’re no fraud nor an online warrior and I love having you back and active in the forum again, especially since NGL Chris seemed to stop visiting so much!!
Keep up the good work!!
By the way. I spent most of last week getting beaten by every single person on the internet last week so people need to realise how bad I am too!! I think I finally have…
Peace,
G.
Yeah Rog said that, he was streaming and got the usual question of “what makes japanese players better than american players?”, he responded with the japanese players are willing to share what they know, be it old or new. I know you’ve helped Ken players in the past and I understand the withholding of the tech, we’re Ken players we need every advantage we can get. Just tell us to watch your matches, any seasoned Ken worth his salt would have picked up on any new tech in your matches without the cock teasing.

I understand the STSFN logic and seeing it in action will do much better than an explanation of it, but then we’d have to hope to see Joon use it on a recorded match or in person if we are ever to find out.
If he’s gonna save it, I would hope he shows it after Evo or something, so it doesn’t just get lost in time.

All good Joon! Make us Ken players proud!
Awww damn G : ) Thanks man. There’s so much more I want to theory fight with you but my mouth has to be kept shut until it gets more exposure and becomes common knowledge. But hopefully soon!
Thanks guys for understanding. I hope you guys will be able to see it this Saturday at Twitch.TV/UGClive at 4:00 pm PDT : )
You know, I find this ironic because I had the same argument/conversation with a top 8 EVO player back when I used to post here a lot. He was my training partner, and consistent top 3 at local tournament and top 8 at majors. At the time, I was beating majority of people in my area with Kara Throws and manually timed true safe jumps option select. I wanted to help everyone around me, including here, so I would tell them and post here everything I found out about Ken. And I criticized my training partner for keeping his info to himself and that Japanese players are better than American players because they share all their information. Then he questioned me, “So you think Daigo, Mago, and those guys share their secrets with everyone else?”
And to some extent, yes. But REALLY secret information? No.
Back in Vanilla, Daigo capitalized on true safe jumps option select after untouchable knockdown (Sweep). Americans didn’t know about it/started doing that until Super. And even then only a very few were able to do it consistently. When Daigo started to lose to Infiltration because of Akuma’s GDLK untechable knock down set-ups on his Ryu, he (and Mago I think) recommended to change untechable knockdown. He didn’t complain about it when he was dominating people with it. And now that he’s losing to it, he recommended to change it. But that’s ok, because we’re all competitors and we want/need EVERY edge we can have.
But sincere apology for teasing you guys. I was so excited I really wanted to share with you guys, but I keep messing up the opportunity. Hopefully soon!
And also, I think American culture vs Japanese culture is significantly different when it comes to social interaction/sharing information/tournaments. Here is what I think goes on in Japan:
(If anybody lives in Japan and have been to the arcade scene, I’d love to hear your input)
-
Japan, like South Korea, is a very formal society. They have to use honorifics if they’re talking to a new person and to older people, and show respect at all times. So if somebody beat you at an arcade and they start giving you advice you’d have to listen. Unlike in America, where if you beat a guy and try to give advice they might get defensive and start retaliating/arguing instead of listening.
-
Japan can’t hold tournaments with money involved as freely as America does. So they don’t have a lot to lose when they share information since they won’t compete a lot. But in America, we have tournaments almost every weekend! I would’ve had a easier time at the tournament if I kept silent but I’ve told a lot of people on why I’m winning against them, and some hated listening to it, but when they truly listened and realized what I was doing they significantly improved and now go 50/50 with me.
When Daigo started loosing to Gouki’s untechable knockdown he entered the training room and readjusted his footsies. Then he explained to the world what he changed and why in interviews. The Japanese have more of a group mentality than the rest of the world. They value long term improvement more than the momentary advantage of secret technology so they are more inclined to share. Better opposition increases competition which in turn favors improvement.
Still, neither sharing tech nor keeping it a secret to maintain a competitive advantage has any inherent value, its worth depends on what gives the owner of this knowledge more satisfaction.
The simple fact is that this is your decision to make and people here ought to respect that. Speaking for myself, i think that conversations like this are an indication that we are taking a game a little too seriously.
^ I agree, and probably true. Maybe it wasn’t Daigo but Mago. But Ken’s new technology isn’t momentary advantage. It’s a fundamental that’s universal for Shotos but even Japanese players are not using it. I don’t blame them because they’re already at the top and don’t have a lot of trouble against the characters I mentioned before since they play Ryu/Akuma or a certain style of Ken.
Speaking from my personal experience, when you have a high success rate with a certain strategy you stop looking for new tools and rather try to solidify what you already know which is also a great idea and a normal human response. But I guarantee when they see Ken’s new technology, they will use it as well.
I’m just going to play and try to win : )
And this’ll be my last time responding to this. I need to practice more than post here : (

Just pm me bro, I’m going up against jwong at toryuken this weekend I could use all the tech
^ It doesn’t work against Rufus. But there are some fundamental knowledge a lot of players are overlooking against Rufus. I recommend mixing up AA low dive kicks with normals on reaction, instant BJ.HK for high dive kicks, and mash DP. Once Rufus realizes you can do all this, he’ll respect Ken more and stop being too aggressive with Dive Kick rush down. It’ll give Ken some breathing room.

One of the bright side of Joon withholding tech is the mystery around Ken’s undiscovered potential. It makes me kind of curious to hit the lab if I wasn’t so busy with personal stuff…

how do i deal with deejays abusive jump in knee?
Thanks Joutai. Ken’s new tech is GDLK because it gets you free damage and if it doesn’t work it blocks for you. It also has a positive psychological effect on Ken’s play style and negative psychological effect on the opponent. On top of all this, the follow up is even BETTER against certain characters.
Believe it or not, you can MP.DP on reaction and still maintain space at the same time. Same goes for Guy’s Elbow. I used to be able to do this consistently but I’m still rusty.
It’ll be hard to react to Deejay’s forward dash but that’s the mix up.
