USF4 Akuma match up thread

I’m going with this as my current match up chart.

Yun:
Been gavin pretty good success against Yun lately so I thought I’d share some tips.

-cr.mp works wonders. It seems to stuff a lot of his ground offense when he’s coming at you. cr.mk is also handy when he’s just out of range for the cr.mp.

-abuse cr.lp. Yuns links need to be spot on, one mistake and your jab wins.

-I’ve read that cr.mk works well on his dive kicks but I haven’t had much luck with it. I have had pretty good results with a well timed focus attack or block and st.lp immediately. The standing jab seems to win unless his timing is spot on and since I’m playing online the lag makes that very tough.

-ultra 1 is great in this match. If your opponent is predictable, you can ultra his dive kick before he hits you. I’ve also landed ultra 1 quite a few times against pretty good players by inputting it during a block string. Again, online lag makes some links very tight and a small mistake will net you a demon and hopefully the round.

-you can stuff his dp with demon flip dive kick. I’m not 100% sure on the timing, I just know when to do it but the best I can describe is after a sweep or close knockdown I lk DF and kick immediately. Stuff one or two of them and it’ll really screw with their game.

I’ve also had luck with hk DF palm wiff. If I do it asap I usually sail right over them and the kick wiffs completely.

-Red focus can turn things around. If you’re stuck in the corner and under a lot of tight pressure, red focus can absorb most of his attacks. His armor breaks are pretty telegraphed so it’s only a throw you need to be careful of. Most average to good yuns won’t stop and throw (usually) but real good players might so make sure you don’t try holding it too long.

-low air fireballs work great. If you throw them as soon as you leave the ground it’s much more effective than waiting until your descent but mixing it up between ascending/descending low fireballs is the best option. I almost always use lp unless he’s mid screen or more.

I don’t fear Yun anymore. I used to hate this match but now that I’ve know what works I usually win. Best advice is poke him to death
Hopefully this helps and I’ll try and post some strategies for other players soon.

So I dunno if anyone realized it but if you wait just a tiny bit after the blockstun from Elena’s slide wears off, you can punish her for a full bnb. If you attack her too fast you’ll only be able to punish with one of Akuma’s low combos. The timing is kinda strict if you’re not used to general blockstun timing but it shouldn’t be difficult to do consistently.

s.MK tends to be the best way to punish her slide. 4 frame start up + force stand + the distance it moves you forward = Full punish combo. It tends to work regardless of the spacing and helps you avoid the problems with her wacky hurt box.

I’ve been fighting a player using Chun Li but he was doing all the random things so I wanted to ask you guys how to properly fight the character in case I get to fight a seasoned player. I’ve had success just zoning her out but I’m still not satisfied with my performance. How should I approach the MU correctly?

What’s the game plan for Adon? Any good posts or source’s of information for the match up?

With the Chun Li match up I don’t have too much trouble tbh and I’'ve versed unbelievably good Chun Li’s aswell.

Once you knock her down shes fucked. I don’t care about delayed wake up because if she does it I usually palm and if she doesn’t I feed her a nice dive kick to beat her ex SBK.

Remember her shots are disgusting in comparison to Akumas but its that flipping kick thing she does you gotta worry about… try baiting it out and either DPing it or if you’re confident focus crumple for a full combo.

I don’t even bother poking her tbh… it’s just too hard… her pokes are awesome and good chance you’ll get counterpoked… I usually try to keep her out.

I’m not the best at this MU but I don’t have too much trouble but take my advice with a grain of salt.

Hopefully I helped bro!

Blanka frustrates me to no fucking end.

Me too.

Damage reductions aside, I’m finding W Ultra very useful in the Ken matchup. It’s more for option denial than anything that I am finding has changed the dynamic of my matches against a couple of tricky Ken players here. Traditionally U2 has been the go-to Ultra VS Ken but packing a demon also limits what Ken can do once stocked.

Serious question, maybe there’s a good link you guys can direct me to if that’s the easiest thing to do.

Adon can’t really do anything scary if you play it safe.
His wall jaguar teeth is a free far HP.
His air jaguar kick is a free focus.
His ground jaguar kick have to be blocked or if predictable DPed. As you should always buffer that Dp in neutral game, waiting for it.
And since now his wake up time is fixed, you can safe jump him like others.

What kind of specific trouble you have against him then ?

Thanks this is really helpful.

I was struggling with basic stuff like spacing and approach because I just find him to be a weird character. Whether to pressure him, and whether to use fireballs. His jump duration is the quickest in the game along side Blanka (according to the brady games book). His air jaguar kick is annoying. I’ve learnt to react reasonably well to the wall dive (jaguar teeth?), but I’ve been using m.dp.

It sounds like the approach is let him come to you and practice the counter move on reaction. Or bait him?

Hey guys, its time for GUTS 3 Day Two

Myself, LuckyD, Smug, Arturo, Lil Evil, and more

Also 5v5 Boston vs NY

In order on the poster in the link
Boston: Casual Pete, Alex Smith, LuckyD, Zaferino, VolcanicAkuma55

NY: PIE Poem, Arturo, PIE Smug, Insaynne, OG Lil Evil

Man, you gotta know when you’re already winning and stop the dice. You lost rounds you owned against Arturo.
Imo you need a counter poking game instead of just standing there for whiff punish. You gotta make em a bit more afraid to walk forward and poke you.
The openings you’re looking for may as well comes from placement and zoning rather than bulldoze in.

I think most of the time the matches you’re losing are because you drop it more than they out played you.
What’s harder to punish, a TP or a whiffed DP ? so why mashing DP when you’re pressured in corner ? Wait the opponent shows you he can punish that TP as hard as he will for a whiffed DP and then you can think of other options. But not the opposite.
Why you go for a cross up fireball on an opponent in the corner ? Isn’t the position by itself a reward you struggled to get the past 30 seconds ? So why put yourself in the corner at this point ? Even worse, with you having a huge life lead. Rose have nothing to compete in this position. You can pressure her with ease on the ground.

I don’t agree also with jump back ex ball that serve no real purpose, waste meter, and as you seen, doesn’t prevent opponent to punish you free for it.
I don’t agree with eating a throw after a whiffed air attack. Unless it’s some special aerial moves that give a lot of recovery and no tech window on landing, every other cases give you a throw tech option. The only thing the opponent can be sure to land is a “meaty” attack on those 2 vulnerable landing frames. You can’t do shit about those. So a good habit is to always put a tech when this happens. You whiff something and land in the face of someone, respect that advantage they have, and just late crouch tech.

This might be a thing. Respecting the opponent momentum. You miss a timing, a move, in short you know you’re in a “Ouups” situation, don’t push it. Respect the opponent and block, back off. If the guy don’t shows good reactions during the set, now you have datas to back up your clever decision to “push it”.

Unless you played and lost a lot of matches where you were playing more safe and strategic because you were pressured to death, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t adopt this style. And even, it would be because of poor reactions. A skill everyone can develop with a bit of training.

This is my point of view, of course I may be completely off.

Congrats Volcanic for getting 7th at GUTS!
I didn’t watch any of this tournament unfortunately so please put in links to your fights.
I just saw your name in the results:

Also, I had no idea Nuckledu had a pocket Akuma…?

Du actually has an impressive number of pocket characters that he plays very well. Next to his Cammy I think his Akuma is the best.

Yeah his Cammy is awesome. Went 0-16 against him in preparation for K-Brad…ok it was a mix of awesomeness and bullshit…vids to come as soon as they’re uploaded. And thanks guys.

BTW, Nuckledu is coming to GU this Friday!!!

His DeCapre looks pretty good, although it’s difficult to tell what a good DeCapre looks like.

I’d say he has a good Decapre. He frustrates the hell out of a few of the guys in our community with her. There was a day he left my house and I was so salty by his play with her, but if you asked him, he feels Akuma beats Decapre. Not sure if he was trolling just to piss me off further though lol.
