Useless Information that you memorize aka Junk Memory

does anyone remember something that is completely random and also completely useless as far as sports, media, music, etc.

I know the theme song lyrics for the sonic the hedgehog cartoon, fresh prince, and family matters…like I can say almost every word despite having not seen the shows since the 90’s…I dont know why…

I know the default moveset for a mewtwo in the pokemon OG red and blue: Psychic, Reflect, swift, recover

why do I remember this shit?..

Because its important

The honorable chairman Mao had horrible dental hygiene.

I still remember the Punch-Out!! World Circuit password. 777-807-3454. Probably because I got stuck fighting Soda Popinski for days when I was 5.

Pretty much everything I know is useless info. Videogame trivia, history, timelines, guides, hell, everything videogame-related; the theme songs for most 90’s anime and sentai shows.

On the other hand, I can’t learn fucking math. Fuck my brain.

Location of each Pokemon in Gen 1(Red, Yellow, Blue)…

I’ve played and beaten each version at least 10 times apiece…

Chansey is Pokemon 113, Dragonite is 149, I think 108 is Kanghaskhan, 107 Hitmonchan, 106 Hitmonlee… some of this ish is coming back to me… I seriously want to test how many I can remember…

I know a lot about video game history… like Nolan Bushnell creating (stealing) Pong and Chuck E Cheese to Steve Jobs and the Woz working on Breakout.
I also know a lot about movie actors, actresses, directors, and producers. I didn’t think it was a big deal until I would try to talk to people about it and they would never know who I was talking about. I grew up in a movie buff household, so yeah. I also know a lot about Bill Gates.

People tend to retain information that has emotional appeal to them. The more you like it, the more you are likely to remember it.

Mike Judge’s favorite episodes of King of the Hill are all the ones where the opening song starts with a special “WEEEEHOOOOOUUUU!” by The Refreshments (the band that made the intro).

oh yea whole lot of stupid things I remember for no good reason.

Playing Zelda Link to the Past.

For some odd reason, I don’t recall playing this game all too much as a kid, but anytime I would play it I just know exactly where to go, where to get everything, and complete the game in such a very short time. I dunno, my brain goes auto-pilot and takes over when I play that game, 'cause if I told people what to do I wouldn’t know. But, once my hand is on the control it’s a different story.

Tom Green was married to Drew Barrymore.

Why the fuck do I need to remember any of this?

Haha, I’ll never forget the location of Mewtwo/Articuno/Moltres/Zapdos. I was replaying LeafGreen not that long ago, I’m saved right at Articuno’s location. Last I played of it I was trying to get a Articuno with a specific personality trait that gave extra +Special Attack for less Defense or something. I was semi-EV training my team too just for the hell of it. I hate that they changed Moltres’ location in that game, though.

I’ve memorized the hell out of FF7 to a point where I can replay it anytime and can have a perfect save file. FF4, FF6 and FF9 too, though not the other FF’s because I didn’t like them as much.

How to make a Hammerdin in Diablo 2 at any point during a ladder season then getting really rich shortly after.

I bought RE2 for 2.99 off of PSN not that long ago, and I’m semi-replaying it here and there, and, I’m surprised at all the shit I remember from that game. I haven’t played it in many, many years. I have RE4 memorized and have beaten it on all the various difficulty on different platforms like PS2 and Gamecube.

I have Castlevania: Symphony of the Night memorized to perfection, same with a couple of the portable Metroidvania’s: Circle of the Moon and Dawn of Sorrow. The other portable CV’s not so much, but I do have perfect save files for those games.

I’m sure there are more, these just came off the top of my head.

IIRC Sabretooth’s first appearance was in Iron Fist #14, from 1972, I think. I’d wiki it, but that would defeat the purpose of the thread.

I used to have hundreds of Marvel Comics trading cards from 1990~1995 that had character info on them. They’re in storage somewhere now, to the extent that they still exist- I haven’t seen them in years. But I still have knowledge of/about random characters like Cardiac or Stryfe or Darkhawk, which is of no value whatsoever. Other than a vague feeling that my life is an overall failure because I never got to read the Darkhold Redeemers.

The first keypad on every Spector-involved game is always 451

I tend to remember a lot of things related to movies, because I watch a lot of them.
I remember certain cvs2 matches I’ve played in tournaments that go back YEARS.
But yeah to the person that said it, anything with some emotional attachment you’ll remember fairly easy.

emotional appeal? so family matters and fresh prince would mean that family is important to me or that I wish my family where as close as those shows and that one day I will have my own? sonic the hedgehog would mean I like to have fun or what not? etc.

maybe there is more to this than I thought?

ABACABB.

You can tell that I grew up in the 90’s.

Thats the Mortal Kombat cheat code right?

I know the military alphabet.

I still remember the major and minor scales of the violin. I havent played since high school.

I remember the lyrics to lots of songs. I dunno if thats really useless, tho.

85% of what I learn in school isn’t really applicable for me irl.

I have FFVI, Chrono Trigger, and Chrono Cross memorized like the back of my hand since I played those games to death when I was a kid. Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG as well. more recent games I “memorize”: P3FES, P4, Fallout 3 and Bioshock.

lyrics to songs I hate but can’t really seem to avoid because of the radio.

random quotes from movies (usually the old Disney animated films), TV shows, and video games that for some reason just really stuck out.

Blood code…

I’d say who doesn’t remember that, but then somebody would point out that not everybody cared about MK.

I spend a lot of time on game wikis for the series’ I like, so I know a lot of stupid story or character related tidbits about those games.
