Upstate SC: The Land Before Time

I’m not seeing very many Upstate names on the FR pre-reg list. What seems to be the problem fellas? Got enough of me at Thanksgiving, did you?

If significant steps haven’t been made to make it an organized event, I won’t be attending. Feel free to stop by in LA while ur here!

Ted

Guys, I think I might go to final round. why the fuck not.

I’m going to FR! I’m just that lazy about pre-reg

When I stop sucking so bad, maybe I’ll go to a major tourney.

Til then, I’ll pass…

Marcus

Anyone else playing/enjoying tatsunoko vs capcom in here?!!

  1. The registration this year is all done through the website, cutting down on the registration and waiting time by about 70%. So far, about 1/3rd of the pre-registered players have already bought their badges, so that’s at least that much time saved in line, and we’ll have a computer in the line so that everyone that steps up should have already registered. When they get to the front to pay, all I have to do is call them up on a screen, we already know what they are playing, we take the money, they go.

  2. I wrote code to generate the brackets as soon as everyone is registered so that we can immediately start calling matches when the tournaments are scheduled to start. Because I’m not a big fan of drawing brackets that are taller than I am.

  3. Everyone is going to be sent to the TV that they are on in advance, and we’re doing smaller pieces of brackets with time estimation so everyone will know what time they need to be back at the stations.

I tell ya, Ted, I might be slightly offended at that comment. I don’t think you realize how much of this tournament I actually have to organize. But yes, I assure you, things will be a lot more smooth, because I’m working to make sure that they are.

You save $5 bucks if you pre-register before next Sunday at midnight.

I’m not trying to offend anyone. Hopefully great strides have been made in making this year run smoother. When you have a tournament with over 100 entrants, you MUST move beyond hand written brackets and mega-phones. I tried to NOT get pissed off last year with the way things were going, but eventually I just left my money there with no plans on returning unless things changed.

The biggest thing that needs to be addressed is control over the game centers and brackets. There were over 10 TV/Console set-ups for SF4 last year and I never saw more than 3 being used by actual tournament matches at a time (typically there were 1 or 2 at best). I offered to help with some ideas on organizational considerations but no one seemed interested. I don’t want to sound like an ass, but it takes alot of planning when a tournament gets as big as FR and no amount of pre-printed badges make it an organzied event. The pre-reg will help get things started, but the play area needs to be controlled or you’re just prolonging everyone’s day needlessly.

Hopefully these issues have been addressed. FR is notorious for running TOO many different games instead of streamlining a smaller number of big draw titles. I sincerely hope things run smoothly, but I have many doubts.

Ted - ggs on xbl!!!

Believe me, I agree with you  That’s why I wanted to step up - this year, I’m the head judge and in charge of all the brackets so that Larry can step back and concentrate on all the other crap - we’re planning on utilizing Twitter, and we’re going to divide each side of the bracket up in advance with TV’s and station numbers so that everybody knows where they are supposed to be and they will have a ballpark idea of when to be there. Unfortunately, the megaphones will still be utilized

@BobSmack: So if things turn out to be a chaotic mess, than I can blame you…right?

Unfortunately, yes

Well I’ll be going to Final Round this year, so I hopefully I’ll meet you. Almost everyone on SRK I’ve met IRL have been cool peeps.

@KeithD - hey TvC is the stuff man its fun as crap to play,… I suck at it though… you ever get online? I’ve never played anyone remotely local to me so the connection has always blown… if you’re on the world-wide-web hit me up man my TvC friend code is below…

Sounds good, I hope things work out!
