Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

  • Stunt Race FX is one of the best racing games I’ve played. Its visuals, however, have NOT aged well.

  • All half-circle commands should be quarter-circles. ESPECIALLY double-half-circles.

  • Galaga > Ikaruga.

Thanks very much for the info!

lolllllll

Dark Cloud 2 was one of the best RPGs on the ps2!

Ok, i tried to not post because this is all relative but…

FF9 is not underrated (yeah thanks for midgets fighting a random last boss) If you live in San Jose Ca and want a free copy i chucked my copy outside of the Golf land. (5 years ago)

FFVIII has the best ending to any console rpg.

Streets of Rage 2 has a better soundtrack than all of the Guitar Hero’s.

The N64 was more than platformers and wreslting games. While it is a fact the PSX shitted on the N64 in nearly every game genre, there were still some dope games.

Star Fox 64
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Tetrisphere
Wetrix (One time my personal crack)
F-Zero X
Winback (One of the original duck and shoot games)
Smash Bros 64
Goldeneye 007
Perfect Dark
Blast Corps (I liked blowing shit up.)
Ocarina of Time

And probably some other games I am forgetting or never got around to playing. But yeah, the N64 basically was like the genesis of its generation with quite few underrated/unnoticed gems.

Also on a unrelated note Uniracers (SNES)>>> every Tony Hawk game.

I’m surprised that game Boom Blox is apparently so well-received. It seems so “blah” to me…it’s what, a video game version of Jenga + extras? Please.

*I’m disappointed that Team Fortress 2 didn’t have more “meat” to the gaming experience. I’ll probably still get Orange Box one day since it at least has other games in there, but TF2 was the main attraction…yet it isn’t anything more than multiplayer. I prefer games not be 100% dependent on multiplayer. The problem for such games is that…what happens when nobody plays anymore? The game just dies completely, as there is literally nothing going on with the single player experience. That’s just depressing. I like multiplayer to be an “option”, but not the whole damn show.

kinda on-topic: I still don’t like card games. It’s difficult for me to care at all about whatever the hell is going on in any card game. People have tried to teach me various card games before…and I just zone out each time…it’s almost as boring to me as Social Studies back in elementary school.

heh, a co-worker/friend told me about how they play card games at the bar after work sometimes…so now I have to either be nice and go…pretending to care, or figure out a way to tactfully say that I’m not really interested.

I just thought that was common knowledge…Yuzo Kashiro is a god.

Without a doubt. Hell, TMNT 4 Turtles In Time has a better soundtrack.

I agree. Shit was addicting and I even liked making those little towns. Spheda was fun too. People really slept on that game.

Radiata Stories was awesome.

It’s what Crono Cross should have been.

Super Probotector > Super Contra

Dark Cloud 2 is the best game for the ps2…that I have played thus far, that is.

God of War and Halo are all clearly average games.

Anachronox is the greatest unknown RPG I have accidentally come across.

Yes it is.

I have this game sitting on my shelf. It’s one of those games I still need to play through. I’ve been going back to my unfinished PS2 games since I got the PS3…finally beat God of War 2, and now I’m playing through Okami. After that, I still have Shadow of Rome, Devil Summoner, Radiata Stories and FF12. Oh yeah, I still have X-Men Legends 2 to deal with, too…I’d rather play that one with someone, though.

I’ll probably never go back to FF12 (played through it for over 40 hours…just not feeling it anymore). Most people slept on Shadow of Rome, though…game is too much fun.

^

  • Shadow of Rome is awesome except for the stealth levels.

  • Bloodlines, Rondo of Blood, and Chronicles are the best Castlevania games, not SOTN. SOTN is the best Metroidvania Castlevania game though, followed by Portrait of Ruin.

  • Batman Returns on SNES > Batman on NES except for the driving sequences which felt like shitty versions of the Mode 7 levels in the Super Star Wars games. I also like Batman on GB a lot. The Adventures of Batman + Robin on Genesis is ok too.

  • Genghis Khan 2 is the best game Koei ever made.

  • Warcraft II >>>>>> Warcraft III. I also personally think AOE 2 > AOE 3 but I like both games. I despise War 3.

  • The Onimusha series is at least as good as Resident Evil imo and needs to be made into a movie. Just get Takeshi Kaneshiro in samurai armor hacking up tons of dudes with a hard R rating.

  • Ogre Battle series > FF Tactics series. The OG FF Tactics was good but the battle system was way too easy to brake. The game even broke the system for you by giving you Orlandu who was not even close to being the most broken character (Ramza and Calculators were the most broken).

  • Jedi Knight, No One Lives Forever, Shadowrun, Serious Sam, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and Timesplitters are some seriously underrated FPS games/series. Also about FPS games, Doom 3 sucks compared to the previous games in the series.

  • Bioshock sucks compared to Deus Ex/System Shock. It’s still a good game though. I also hated the good ending in Bioshock. The bad ending in which you basically become a Bond villain was much more satisfying.

Oh shoot, I thought NOBODY knew about this game! Good stuff.

Unpopular gaming opinions:

-Here’s a popular unpopular gaming opinion: Final Fantasy 7 is incredibly overrated. Yes, it’s a good game with an interesting story, but 1) The materia system sucks shit, 2) the dialogue is is crap, mostly because of an all-around poor job in the translation department, 3) the main character has little to no personality.

-Square-Enix has totally fallen off. They basically revolutionized video games with the concept of heavily story-driven video games. The story in Final Fantasy X and XII are crap. It starts out really strong and interesting, but it’s like they either run out of inspiration or they rush the last 1/2 of the story to meet deadlines. Final Fantasy XIII better have an oscar-worthy story.

-Capcom vs SNK 2 is the best fighting game ever made.

-The “best formula for boss-fights” award goes to… not Metal Gear Solid, not Devil May Cry, not God of War, but…World of Warcraft! For those who haven’t tried, defeating a boss in World of Warcraft basically entails repeatedly throwing yourself at the boss, dying again and again, just to find out his abilities/tendencies…then using your leet problem solving skills to find the best ways to deal with them…adjusting and refining your strategy with each failed attempt…and then flawlessly executing your strategy to achieve victory. It doesn’t have to be hard, it should just require effort. Most rewarding feeling in video games.

-Raiden is still a douchebag in MGS4.

-Although FFVI largely revolved around Terra and Celes and was very successful, a female main character in FFXIII is an awful idea. (I hope I’m wrong)

-Grand Theft Auto IV was a huge disappointment, and while I hate when people say this about any game that gets good ratings, I’m convinced that somebody paid off reviewers to give this game the scores that it received. I will shit my pants if anybody gives this GTAIV GOTY over MGS4.

-Earthbound is not a good game.

-If I had to make a prediction on this matter, I’d predict that Street Fighter IV will probably suck shit. I hope I’m wrong.

-I say this with an honest-to-god unbiased voice, and my opinion would not change regardless of whether I owned on or not: X-box 360 sucks. It’s basically a PS3 that doesn’t play Blu-Ray movies.

-Nintendo Wii sucks even worse. I sells a lot because it appeals to the demographic who have never given a flying fuck about video games, but find it necessary to purchase one to show how young and hip they are. 90% of Wii owners I know don’t ever play it.

Wow thank you

Just like I’ve been saying for years.Earthbound is just not a good games/series.Same goes for Dragonquest.

  1. it was tranlated in japan to stay as true as possible, 3) the main charcter is an avatar, what good is an avatar if he has his own opinions all over the place, why does nobody understand this??? :lame:

Unpopular gaming fact: I will NEVER give up backing up Final Fantasy 7

What disturbs me the most about FF VII is all the sexual gay innuendo going on throughout the game and Cloud being pretty chill about it. :wtf:

Honey Bee Inn antics and date with Barrett at the Gold Saucer comes to mind.

Unpopular Gaming opinions:

-The Wii just sucks period. I think it is the worst out of the systems now and people are going to keep letting nintendo tell them that they are selling out because they can’t make enough when before they went to the 2007 holiday season, they said they have more than enough power to make as many as they want. They are doing f’ed up supply and demand on yall and that is just pissy

-FPS have 10% skill. So when someone says their skilled in a FPS, its like saying to me you play A game. Pick up a real challenge like an RTS, fighting, shmup, rhythm (except for GH), or do a speed run to show some kind of gaming talent.

-Fuck people sleeping on those pc games. That is the shit to me. RTS for life (and pc fighters). Come on, for 8 years of my life I have been playing RTSes and they are the most demanding thing ever to play, and the community around them don’t seem to fade either.

-NEWSFLASH!!! FFVII is not the best Final Fantasy, FFVI is and if you don’t like it takes some high potions till you OD.

-WOW as of now sucks. That is all I am saying on that

-Gamers seem to hate challenge. This is why half of the games out there have some dumb ass half game long tutorial. And if a game is too hard they just put it down, instead of challenging themselves to be better.

-Oh to everyone that thinks that GTA is the best game ever or MGS4 is the best game ever, you sir have been smokin whatever crap Rockstar or Konami gave yall and became avid fanboys of those products. Good yes, but the best, put yourself in the corner and think about what you just done by disrespecting the games before it.

-No matter how hard you try, it is hard to achieve balance in a fighting game period. I would say it is impossible. We can try though. But they will never be a perfectly balanced game ( even if there was one character (p1 side might have adv.)).
