Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

Blame Halo for radars, although in halo it worked because shields meant you could out-skill almost everyone who was shittier than you (when skill levels were about equal then it was down to whoever got the drop).

Also, I get why people dislike Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, but everytime they try and explain themselves it just sounds like they’re whining about the game being hard and not spoon feeding them (except when they talk about the PVP, that shit is jank)

That’s why i always just say i don’t find the Souls games fun. I don’t think they are bad, I dislike the mechanics but i don’t even think they are bad mechanics, I just don’t have fun playing them. Just not for me, I’ve tried a few times now and eh…

Glad other people like them tho.

Yeah anyone can be a stupid fuck and glue their eyes to the radar, but those who use tried and true skills from counter strike days blow those people out of the water. People having radars was never an issue for me.

Cape Mario power up in SMW is the best power up in the Mario franchise. Fuck the fire flower. And the stocking shoe from SMB3 ruins the game.

I think the radar mechanic in Halo really just compensates for the fact that the game’s sound engine is shitty and doesn’t carry sound across space properly. In any other game you can easily locate unseen threats nearby through sound, but in Halo, footsteps are basically only audible to yourself, and all the gunshots and other telltale sounds seem not to travel very far. Consequently, if you play Halo with the “no radar” option off, your situational awareness is basically almost bad as if you were deaf, because you tend to only be able to hear things which are already right in front of you.

I don’t really get the big deal with the Souls games. Sure, they’re unforgiving compared to modern AAA handholding games, but that’s not saying much. Unless you’ve ONLY played games from the PS3/360 era, I don’t see how you could have never played any other games which are equally unforgiving when you crank the difficulty up. Even super slow retarded games like Halo 2 will kill you in 1 shot if you walk through sniper alley on legendary and come 0.1 seconds late pulling the trigger. The only thing particularly out of the ordinary is the RPG aspect that you have to regrind the souls you lost if you don’t go back to where you died and pick them up.

The biggest reason not to like the Souls games is cause they’re RPG’s and the only objective most of the time is to grind your levels up. As usual for the genre, this creates a mitigating buffer zone against the skill-based aspect of combat by creating a certain amount of situations where you win or lose based on XP instead of skill. Since there isn’t much platforming or puzzles, there’s little else to the game, so what you wind up with is a mediocre fencing game with lots of grinding, walking around, and cutscenes. For a game which basically only has combat going for it, it’s really slow and there aren’t that many moves to master. There’s something to be said for its emphasis on single strikes instead of dial-a-combos, but it’s not well-executed enough to stay engaging.

Someone forgot about wingcap mario

Squirrel Suit in NSMBU = G.O.A.T

best Mario suit is the Rabbit ears from Super Mario land 2 which also happens to be the best Mario game anyway

3 was more of the same with worse story

uncharted is shit you’re not alone

Super Mario Land 2 was way too easy.
Fun game though.
As a person who got 2 games a year though, I was disappointed how I beat it on the first day.

Same with Aladdin.

Radars ruin certain aspects of FPS games, like relying on sounds and to an extent reactions. If you walk into a room and know exactly where an enemy is because he just pinged on the map, you don’t need to be able to react when you walk into that room, you know when and where exactly to aim your gun.

If there was no radar, you’d have no idea he was there unless you heard him running around/opening a door/shooting off a weapon if you’re close enough. The 1v1 stand-offs in Counter-Strike are classic because it’s pure skill based, and you see people not even running because they want to muffle their footsteps so they have an upper hand to an extent. Getting the jump on someone is always in your favor in an FPS 99% of the time unless your gun sucks, and radars just kill this aspect completely, it’s too scrub-friendly, and a decent FPS player with a radar is just GGPO. It’s too easy.

There are people at Level 1 who have cleared both Souls games. It’s very skill based, you don’t need to level grind unless you want to.

The objective in Souls games is to constantly progress the story, because it changes the world, and gives you more to explore.

If you’re just hitting enemies with single strikes the whole time, you’re using a slow weapon. Some weapons are very fast and this changes the gameplay completely. No two weapon types are ever the same, each different weapon you use pretty much changes your “style” and how you play and approach enemies. A dude with a giant-ass, 2 handed sword has to play much more carefully and position himself well to hit anything with the slow-ass start up of the 2-handed swords in those games, but a dude with a very fast 1handed sword or dagger has a crack-fast, get in there and go HAM at all costs approach instead.

Plus, you have items+spells+parries+other shenanigans that open the combat and make it really enjoyable. There’s some very wacky combinations to be had in that game too based on what type of items you’re wearing+your skill combinations.

Jade Cocoon>pokemon red and blue

I almost laughed myself into a coma at the souls=grind comment. NG++ has been cleared at sl1 and people can get to ng++++++ below sl20

Dragon Warrior: Monsters > both.

I like pokemon red and blue for what they were. The best turn-based rpg of that era for children. There was a lot of hidden depth that was basically meaningless (because little kids we were, and intelligent we were not) but the game let you adventure, see cool monsters, level up, and feel good about robbing some little kid after curb stomping his pet dog.

Really, pokemon paved the way for GTA

Man i don’t even like the Souls games and yet i still know they aren’t grind lvls games.

what’s wrong with souls games

That’s why I like Gears of War and Hardcore on COD. Sure you have radar on the pause menu in hardcore mode, but you literally have to stop everything because it’s in the pause menu. Its not even worth using at that point.

Both those series are ass.

Good for you but i dont have a gaming computer anymore and Global Offensive is dead on consoles.
